On November 26th/02 I stepped onto an Air Canada flight and into another world :)
I Strongly suggest you read this if you are considering finding a russian bride or going to Russia for the first time. Especially if you are Canadian. If anyone has any questions or comments feel free to contact me directly at jparkinson@simcom.on.ca
OK so here's the scoop!
about 4 months ago I placed an ad with a marriage agency online in hopes that some perfect 10 model from the USSR would see it and fall madly in love with me :)
2 days later I got a letter from a stunning young woman who lives in Volgograd Russia.
After only 4 months of daily email and some rather expensive phone calls, I decided that I had to go and meet this enchanting young lady in person so I booked a flight (multiple flights to get where I needed to go) and it was off to "Vacation" with my new found princess under the iron curtain.
My flight schedule was quite seriously insane but I booked it this way to save some cash for the trip so it's my own damned fault. I flew from Toronto to Germany, to St. Petersburg, to Moscow, to Volgograd. I could likely now write a book on the differences between the western world, and life in Russia but I won't bore the majority of you here by doing an essay. Just the basics.
My flight from Moscow to Volgograd was cancelled at the last minute due to fog and I was stuck in Volgograd for an extra 15 hours. So after 3 days with NO sleep I arrived. Along the way I met some very interesting people including the conductor the Niagra Symphony Phil Harmonic Orchestra, an ex KGB agent turned Doctor who was the shadiest and most interesting person I have ever talked to! and a few other people who spoke english (and I do mean a few) including 2 Italians, one Brit, one Ukrainian, and one German.
Bottom line here is that I had to deal with some serious crap along the way and for the record do NOT drink the water. In the end I married the most beautiful, intelligent, funny, interesting, sweet, heh... I could drone on forever about how great she is .. Girl
As someone who was completely convinced I would never meet the right girl for me, I can honestly say that when you are dealing with the right people (honest agency) the whole experience is incredible cool ! Plus I am by no means a good looking dude and I just married a perfect 10 girl :))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))
Now I begin the insane task of dealing the Canadian Immigration. I hear this is likely to take up to a year (or more) but I refuse to accept that timeframe. Afterall I am a Canadian citizen and she is my wife Damnit!!!
I walked through a frozen hell to get this far and I'll be damned if MY government is going to stop me now. The bottom line here people is this:
If you have a girl waiting to meet you in Russia and you're not sure if you should actually take the huge HUGE step of going to meet her.... Go to Russia! Get married and be happy! In fact stop reading this and go book your flight right now. Then go and buy a scarf because you will be needing it.
If anyone is interested I would be happy to post all the details (well most of the details :))) ) of my trip here.
Yes I have even begun to plan a trip to Russia this winter -your summer- the experience will be a life one ... so hope to have the right girl in site by then ..
J, very interesting it sounds ... email me details when you can. It seems we are going down the same path, but you are much faster! Married after the first meeting? how you came to this decision so fast? did you marry her in russia? was it easy? I also met my girl four months ago and also went to see her mid-november. Going back this Friday for ten days and will go back in Valentine's Day. Lots of frequent flyer miles (not even counting those resulting from the phone calls ...). Have started process to bring her to america, won't marry before then. Think it's nice to take things slowly and let love flourish ... she means everything to me and want to live every moment from the first letter and phone call to our first meeting, meeting her parents, taking her on a trip in the tropics, bring her to the u.s., marry her! to me every moment with her is a delight and want to live it before going to the next. It's like a fairy tale and even the distance and difficulties along the way actually strenghten our love. Of course, wish she'd be with me right now and hope she will pretty soon. Interested to hear your perspective. Good luck!
