LOL Actually, its easy to explain. In Soviet times many convicts used to write letters from prison to single ladies who posted their adds in newspapers. Thus the cliche 'without previous convictions' if a woman isn't really interested in guys with criminal record... Now the cliche made it to the internet!!!! THATS JUST AWESOME :)
Russian women tend to misuse certain words when writing their descriptions of their desired partners.
They ask for a man who is "careful", when they really mean "caring".
They ask for a man who is "sportive", when they really mean "athletic".
Its my guess that when she writes "without previous convictions", she actually means "without having previously been married" or perhaps "without children from a previous relationship".
The MOST disconcerting word in that description though - is one you didn't mention. ALWAYS be wary when a woman states her FIRST requirement (the first word) as "GENEROUS".
When she says "generous" there's a good chance that she is looking for a "sponsor" (sugar daddy) - one who will send a lot of money without expecting much in return.
Geriatrix, stop reading profiles, go and meet somebody! Or is it possibility you work in the university as semiotic?
Im afraid if non english speakers write generous she might think great-hearted. I checked dictionary and found that it might mean that.
Dictionary give us words : magnanimous, generous, great-hearted, great-minded.
Yes N()R - according to our resident authority, "great hearted" is what a woman means when she asks for generous.
So when the beautiful babe of your dreams - asks you for that new expensive coat - just say "Honey - I'm not going to buy it for you. but even better, I'll let you bask in the warmth of my big heart."
You'll have her eating out of your HAND - and it won't cost a dime.
Great...I stop using dictionaries. Here are language professors who explain everything. Geriatrix will write profiles what are absolutely packing ferfect (as my boyfriend likes to say), others translate everything in FSU women dialect!
I din't mean to offend you Annika.. I actually believe what you say, but it honestly make me think about everytime I have just browsed further after seen this word "generous" in an ad..
Im not offended, I mentioned it here several times...no need to analyze profiles of non-english speakers. I read in one other russian women board that women in Kiev even didnt know expression "family oriented" before americans came to town. Now everybody use it in her profile. Other word what is suspicious is fidelity. Im not sure non english speakers understand it correctly.
Other thing is russian women really dont like stingy men. Thats why they write generous. Im always suprized when men ask in borads for cheapest transport and cheapest accomodation to travel to look brides in Ukraine/Russia. I dont belive they have luck!
One thing that absolutely always caused conflict between my lady and U was the fact that I was always looking for the cheapest airfare or the least expensive (while maintaining quality) brand of some item in the grocery store. She and I did NOT see eye to eye on that at all.
I look at it as a smart decision - few of us, except perhaps a few in the Forbes 400 richest people in America - have unlimited means. While we may have better salaries than do our Eastern European counterparts - we ALL like to stretch it by getting a good deal. FEW people get wealthy or STAY wealthy by paying more for everything than they have to.
It only makes sense. And even if I can easily afford a more expensive item - it irks me no end to pay more for something than I have to.
Russian women see this as CHEAP! They think that a truly successful man should go first class all the way and never question the cost. To ME this suggests that the typical Russian woman (who acts that way anyway) isn't just looking for someone with a comfortable lifestyle - they want someone who is FILTHY RICH.
This is a MAJOR difference in culture.
I have an aquaintence who truly ualify as FILTHY RICH - and even he searches several different online service to save $10 or $20 on a flight. Its just the way we do it.
But most local dating adverts here start : I want to meet "accurate" man, its like dont drink much, have decent job, dont change parners so on, havent cirme record so on. But maybe somebody thinks it means man who clean behind him-no idea?
Jet, PLEEEEEZZZZ stop.... I've got hickups, my my, my man :)))))))))))))
FILTHY RICH > Russian thesaurus > 'Generous'
You're right here I think, this is indeed a "MAJOR difference in culture", possibly borne out of comparison. The local rich guy drives a recent car which also abroad is regarded as a certain status symbol, moves with a posing which cost plenty, the circles he moves within also do, and all this is eons removed from 'average', simply beyond reach for them even.
The classes differ more than in the US Jet, the contrasts are a lot starker hence are interpreted as such. The visibly smaller (western) differences need educating to be picked up for what they are, and I presume they're lots clearer the way they are in the FSU.
Simple example: drive a Landcruiser or a F250 there - you'll stand out immediately. No offence Jet, but not where you live.
I've told the story before - but I'll mention again - in Chisinau when I went in April/May of 2004 there was ONE SINGLE BLACK HUMMER and EVERYBODY was familiar with it.
It had tinted wondows so you could not see inside - but when it drove down the street EVERY head turned (well every female head and maybe 80% of the mail heads) including the head of my lady - who claimed she knew the guy who owned it, not personally but by name.
She was AMAZED when we drove to northern Wisconsin past a dealership with more than 100 Hummers in the lot. She told me she would not have believed it if she hadn't seen it. The vehicle seems to be quite popular among the high paid members of the Green Bay Packers so you find a lot of them in Green Bay as well. That surprised her as well.
