I have stayed at the Sherborne House three times Matt and was throughly satisfied all three times. The rooms are clean and the cost of their driver meeting you at the airport is resonable.
I rented an apartment through www.UAapartments.com, the one on Shovkovychna Street. Great location, five minute walk to Kershatik St (the main drag), though the apartment is halfway up that hill (but, hey, it's good exercise). I paid, I think, $35/night, now they're asking $44, still seems like a good deal. I don't know when you're thinking of going, but i was there on their Independence Day (mid-August)...man, what a party that was.
I have been to Kiev four times and stayed at the Sherbourne once . First of all it is not the only apartment known to mankind available in the city as it is so highly recommendable as everyone likes to say. There are a thousand more just as nice and closer to the action . The place is hard to find and way way out in peanut heaven. It is clean and it is nice but if you are given the basement apartment and the cats are pissing in your basement window well as they did in mine we had to move to an upstairs apartment because the smell of cat piss was unbearable.I lost count of the staircases we climbed to go to another apartment. Too much work. Exhausting. My ex-girlfriend said the place is way too far from Kreshatyk Street. She is a city tour guide in Kiev. I had very nice places only a one minute walk from The main drag that are just as nice. Also if you pay by credit card in advance to the Sherbourne you will get billed a higher price than they quoted for some crap about the current exchange so pay cash. My opinion is it is highly recommended because it might be the only place people ever stayed at so it is all they know of. But if you want to deal with the metro or pay for a taxi or walk 45 minutes to the center of the city then book your room there . But they do services that you wont get at other places like airport pick-ups and breakfast and flowers .
I second Bills recommendation. I enjoyed my stay also at the Sherbourne. Only about a 15 minute ride on the Tube to the main street in Kiev. Close to St. Sophia's Cathederal. That is worth going to see and not far from the WWII memorial. The service is Excellent. My next trip though I have booked another apartment only two blocks from the American Embassy and not far from
Kreschatik street./www.uaapartments.com, Not nearly as nice as Sherbourne but close to the embassy and medical plaza for her interview.
Thanks for the info guys, my lady said that this was recommended to her by the agency, so I guess for the first meeting something special would be an advantage.
Oh, on that, I just received an email from her agency, that stated it was the Alliance Group, Mariupol Marriage Agency with the director being Marina Drozd. Has anybody had any dealings with this agency, as I can't find anything about it. But we have been communicating for about 4 months and nothing seems out of place, so I'm confident it might be successful. Oh, and I asked her about places to stay in Kiev, which is when I received the Sherbourne recommendation :)
But reading the replies that weren't there a minute ago???? Looks like it might also be worth investigating others that are closer to the main attractions! So I will do that, thanks again.
You can Find Mariupol Marriage agency at Allmg.com I curious about Marina Drozd being the Director, I always thought it was Raisa Yakusheva? They are a good agency, but a little overpriced in their services. The girls are real and if you would like more information on this please ask. You can email me at lastlapmark6@aol.com
There are lots of apartments in the centre of kiev. Why go out to the boondocks. I have used Uaaparments and have stayed in about 10 different ones all 5 - 10 min walk from Kreshatik with various levels of appointments and cost. My recommendation is Shota Rustaveli if u checK out the web site. Shevchenko is nice and cheaper, Pushkinska is nice and close to Independance sq with lots of nice restaurants.
