SO now that agencies are going to have issues selling/revealing addresses because of this new US bill will they all go broke???
God this could be a great moment... How will they make money??? What does this mean for the entire industry,,, How will geeks like Jetmba and Martin from dad army cope now
Martin the law reads that at the embassy interview the lady will be asked if she used an agency and if so was the informaton given to her. They will then check a list to see if that agency is known to be in compliance. If she does not tell the truth and is found out (a very real possiblity) her visa will be denied and she will be forever denied a visa to the US for any reason. The US cannot force by law any foreign agencies to comply, but they can refuse to issue visas to any clients of theirs unless they do.
Bill,
OK, so it will affect ladies that want to relocate to USA. Now whilst that is quite a large number there are also quite a large number, even perhaps a larger number, that want to relocate to such places as Canada, Europe, Australia (god help them), New Zealand etc.
I'm still at something of a loss regarding how a US law is going to have such a drastic affect on the industry as referred to by the he/she Vanechka above.
For years, if a lady has a visa refused for one country then she may reapply for a visa for another country, if the first country put a mark in her passport then she gets a replacement passport. I can understand that such a law may have an affect on USA guys but the industry as a whole, well it's not that big a deal and it very far from likely to close the industry down.
And, what the f*ck it has got to do with an antipodean, how it might affect him/her, is quite beyond me!
And if the lady involved purposefully lies to the interviewer? I think that follow up enforcement of these rules will be nigh on to impossible! Word will spread quickly and once again ingenuity will circumvent the well meaning, but overbearing law forced into effect by do-gooding know-it-alls that have only the best of intentions on how to run other peoples lives. Several dozens of bueaucrats will be hired to hear these lies, file the papers, and investigate the occasional real problem that the law was designed to prevent.
Do not know about the industry as a whole Martin. I have no idea what the breakdown is as far as what country has what percentage of fiance visas. The new law is specific to the US. It appears that right now only full service agencies will be affected as the key part of the law is that the personal information on the prosective sponsor is given to the girl before her contact information in given out. In the case of socials I don't see how this could apply.
Bill,
No I don't know about the whole industry as a whole, I'm aware that the USA plays a big part in the future of ladies wishing to relocate but if the USA, government that is, make life too difficult then it will have an affect on USA guys but the industry will move on, I'm sure, and ladies would opt for alternative countries.
Without knowing the ins and outs of the referred to US law, one that I have no particular interest in, it would seem that any affected agencies (service providers) would simply have to modify their practices to fall, perhaps only fractionally, within the new US guidelines.
Please understand this is not an anti-USA thing, antipodean 'manually operated sperm donor' maybe, I just wanted to understand the situation. I am in Ukraine next week, my wife works for, and her best friend owns, a dating agency and if there was anything I could mention to them, business practice wise, then they like to hear what I have to say.
Just been talking to the missus, the temperature is minus 27 with 1 metre of snow but it's OK, I'm not there until next Saturday when a heatwave is forecast, temperatures are to climb to minus 23!
I know about the cold, Lena and her son have been sleeping at her sisters because the heating system in her apartment cannot keep up with the cold.
The law is still 60 days (somewhat less now) from going in effect. You can go to this web site, http://www.arctec.com/ and there is a very preliminary synopsis of the new law. It was created by a politician from the state of Washington where a young Russian girl was murdered by her husband. I suppose the whole point of the law is to prevent that. I am not sure how...I think you will find such tragedies in any country and not necessarily with matches between foreign couples. I don't know if it will effect the number of US guys going over. The process is already cumbersome...this just adds one more layer of bureaucracy to the mix.
The information required are things that would be required eventually anyway. The only problem I would have just starting out is, not that the lady knows this, it is the agency and all the people there have more info that I would like them to have since they are not bound by the privacy laws the US companies are.
It seems interesting to me after reading this house bill, that it would not affect sites Like fiance.com especially if you have contact with a woman outside the sphere of influence of an agency. What is well known that the sites they are not attempting to regulate are the sites notoriously know for scammers, Like match.com and Yahoo personals. When I look at a bill, especially the most stupid of them, all you need to do is follow the money trail. When you read this bill, it is full of crap. Instead of creating stupid regulations, maybe we should punish offenders more severly. I remember seeing this on American Justice or some other program about the poor girl that got murdered in Washington. What I find extremely funny is if you commit a crime that is a felony, you can not vote, you can not own guns etc. So if that's the case, You shouldn't get a passport.
As for the guy who did the killing in Washington, he was an absolute pig of a human being. Though we are worried about legitmate men going overseas to find a lady. We are not even smart enough to keep the Criminals that beat women behind bars. We give them furloughs so they can go out and kill their ex-spouses. I refer to this because not far from where I lived in South Bend, intellectual giants in Indiana Furloughed Alan Matheney so he could skip, have a friend pick him up in Indianapolis and drive to Mishawaka to Kill his ex wife Lisa Bianco, the sad thing to this story is he did this in front of his own children. He was on an 8 hour furlough. He was in prison for spousal abuse. Now that makes a whole lot of sense to me.
Also I had heard a few months ago from some friends whose ladies were going through the interview process, that they were already being primed by the embassy's with pamphlets that said, if your man mistreats you, your man hits you etc, here are some numbers to call. What a crock of crap. Decent guys get screwed all the time and the idiots just keep on going.
Absolutely nas, this bill was written as a knee jerk reaction to a horrendous situation by feel good liberals. The fact that it will probably not prevent one case of abuse matters not, simply the fact that it makes the supporters feel good about themselves is all that counts. Plus this woman can go back to her district and say look what I have done, I have made it nearly impossible for sexual predators to bring a foreign bride home, and since most people in her district do not have a clue what she is talking about they will buy it hook line and sinker
Martin_UK,
It is fair to say you are an information addict. Do you have access or do you know exactly how many women apply each year in the Ukraine for fiance visas collectively for all countries?
Im new to this site and to the whole foreign bride thing. My question is this Im from the US and since this new bill is going into effect is it pointless to even consider continuing the process? Not that im at any stage or that i will be soon im just talking to the ladys at this point.
crazykappa, the new law just means that certain information about you will have to be divulged to the lady before her contact information can be given to you. Such things as …are you listed in sex offender data base, how many times you have been divorced and for what reason, and have you been convicted of spousal abuse. The law is still new and what type of agencies it applies too, to my knowledge has yet to be determined. I do not see how for instance it could apply to socials as the girl herself would give you her contact info and not the agency. Also the agency would not know who to give what information to until after a meeting took place. As usual the libs reacted in a Knee jerk manner without any real clear thought as to what hey were really trying to accomplish or how to effectively do it
Thanks for a straight answer. This is only my first post but i have been reading the fourms for a few days now. It seems there are very helpfull people here and there are also not so helpfull people here. My main problem is being new and such witch side of the story to believe.
As always, there are two sides to a story, then there is the truth. You sample ideas here, get an understanding from some here. Then you search for the truth. Most everyone here will lead in a correct direction on their experiences, but only you can decide what the truth is. Many experiences are similar as they are diametrically opposed. You make it work for your own experiences and personality and what it is you are exactly looking for.
hey wmferg, before accusing the libs as acting in a knee jerk manner, (maybe like iraqnam)you must keep in mind that governor george W(orstever) bush signed this legislation into law, one of the few things he has ever done right in his sorry and pathetic life. do you want to turn this forum into a political discussion, go for it pal.
Well timmy my friend you should look into the fact that what we are speaking about is just an amendment to a much larger Violence Against Women and Department of Justice Reauthorization Act of 2005. As any president cannot veto just a portion of a bill then it would not make any sense for the president to veto an entire bill that is needed, to get to a useless piece of legislation. Read the amendment and you tell me how this will do anything other than just make life more difficult for Americans wanting to bring their fiances home. It will do absolutly nothing to stop any violence toward women.
