I live in far east Ukraine, about three days ago I noticed an American ordering a Ukraine hotdog from a small kisos in the center, he had a brown, lite jacket, a faded pair of off brand blue jeans, and a pair of flimmsy slip ons, no gloves or head gear, the temps here are like -5 F for a high, with the wind chill the temp is -15, I am from a cold weather state, i can handle the cold weather; I thought, but this isn't cold, this isnt freezing, I dont know what it is. I suggest the follwing, for a coat bring a down filled coat, it's warm, stylist and suited for this type of weather. You may want to dress in a type of black 505 or 501s jeans, they look nice for most occasions, bring a good quality shoe, made for winter, and also a good quality pair of socks, you can buy good socks here, but if you're like me, big feet, (size 14) you won't find your size, I wear Dickies work socks, they last and are sutied for this weather. You need head gear, I suggest you buy this in Ukraine or Russia, you can get the traditional Russian head gear, beanies, caps with the flooded ear covers, at a real good price, also good quaitly gloves here are not a problem finding. Bring a pair of thermals as well, while sitted in restaurants, the heat is not good in many and your legs will get cold, even if inside, thermals will help.
I'm off to Zaporozhye on Saturday, it has been -27 the last few days with a metre of snow but a heatwave is coming for my visit, temperatures are forecast to rocket to -23.
I've got the mink hat, I've got the boots out of the cupboard, I bought myself a new cardigan yesterday and I've got a truly thermal jacket that I purchased in Odessa 2 years ago!
Why dont you share with us the psyche of the Ukrainian woman ... And explain to all these western men why they should steer clear of you cunning Ukrainian girls whohave only 1 reason to leave Ukraine and its not love
Im not Ukrainian, I dont live in the Ukraine (never dreamt) but just to wind you up i can secretly give you a link :)))) http://immigrationboards.com/viewtopic.php?t=6219
FSUfemale, you are anything but. As a westerner, I've been politely corrected a few times for using the phrase "the Ukraine" rather than just "Ukraine". Also, the term wind you up is a not too often used phrase that a FSU woman most likely would not be aware.
Buffed, its written in my text book Ukraine should be used with "the" the same as "the Argentine, the Congo, the Caucasus, the Ruhr, the Hague". Regarding to "wind up" I happen to read English books, newspapers and a few English spoken forums, so I know some slang expressions. And I know how to use keyboard as well, you see..:)
