The time has come for me to also wing my way to the FSU and begin my search for real.
Coming from NZ I have concentrated my search to the east side. It is so much closer for me.
I will be flying into Vladivostok at the end of Febuary and intend to take advantage of the winter and spend a few days skiing nearby.
I have the most cutest tour guide you could imagine -)) but I do not want to arrive there and appear totally lost. I am hoping some have gone before me and might advise on good places to stay, eat, things to do etc ?????? All ideas greatfully recieved
Its all come up in a rush and all very exciting
Good on you Bob - and good luck. I don’t think many of us have ventured into that side of Russia before???????
What is your flight route - via Japan ??
Things are going great with Lena and I here in NZ - so wish you the best and similar luck. Cheers Peter
I have been to VVO (abbreviation for Vladivostok). I hate to disappoint you but there's not much to see there. With the exception of the coastline (no beach) and a small downtown, you are looking at a relatively impoverished downtown core.
In case things don't work out, you wish to have a continguency plan for an alternate location.
Thanks Peter for the support.
Glad to hear you and Lena are doing so well
You both are an inspiration to us all.
My flight goes non stop Auckland to Seol, 4.5 hours shopping there and then straight to Vlad.
It all seemed like a great plan to begin with but its actually cheaper to twice as far and go to Moscow. Moscow would have to be more interesting but I am hoping Vlad has other compensations -))
The best advice from my Russian friends here, Is not to go. Especially in winter. But what do you do?
Thanks for the good luck Ben
Vlad is certainly closer to Auckland, We can get there in 18 hours compared to 30+ going to Europe , Moscow .
My "tour guide" tells me shes "making up a list of all the interesting places to go". And then tells me "it is actually a very short list -))"
Mob
Any idea for that alternative location, that isnt a million miles away?
They are telling me it is not quite beach weather yet.
A barmy minus 10 on a good day.
Vladivostok is been cancelled and will be re scheduled later in the year.
Apparently the skiing is crap, its freezing cold, and its expensive.
My new plan is to fly to Thailand on Monday 27 Feb, where I will meet my little woman from Vladivostok and we will send a couple of weeks with her at a resort in Koh Samui.
It is actually cheaper to do this than for me to go to Vladivostok.
I havent told my woman the cost savings here, but I am sure scoring a lot of points -))
Viva
I dont know if there are agencies in Vlad, I expect there would be.
I use a russian dating site and run it all through the translator.
Gives a good snapshot of russian life.
Funny that you say you might head there if peru dries up. I am using the same russian site to persue a very promising woman in Buenos Aires
PS
Thailand was fantastic and the company was great but she was much younger than her profile said, way too young. I will have to ask more searching questions next time.
