A couple of weeks ago I read a thread here about comparing the IP header information of suspicious ladies. Tonight, I took the time to go through about 25 ladies and when I compared the IP addresses, I was shocked to see 6 of them, different ladies, all had the same IP address. Unbelievable! The worst part was one of them was one I have written to for a few weeks and even talked to on the phone. But something just started to seem weird lately, and just for the heck of it, I compared her IP address...what a shocker, and disappointment. I actually kind of liked this one. The worst part was that she brought converstation about her baby and my daughters into the equation. I was really fooled on this one.
This question may be too technical, but I want to see if there are other suspect women on my list. If you have two IP addresses that are indentical in numbers, except the last two or three digits, are they indeed separate IP addresses? Example:
194.67.57.54
194.67.57.96
Would it be safe to say these are two different people, or a t least IP addresses?
rk:
if there is ANY difference in the IP header then the originating computer is a different one.......bit of a no-brainer really if you think about it!!
There is a good Russian proverb: " Make a fool to pray to God - he will crack his forehead beating over the floor.
I have one big advise to one person. Forget about all this international dating. It is not worthy of such mental efforts from a foreign soldier.
gladiator...thanks for the feedback. As obvious as that may be to you, I honestly didn't know. I'm glad you knew the answer, and now so do I...thanks.
felice...if I hadn't heeded much of the advice on this forum and made the mental efforts, I would be in mental anguish over there...we've all read some of the recent experiences of some. I know it seems I'm analyzing the heck out of this, but eveyone's feedback has really ended up saving me a lot of time and frustration.
I've met a lot of great girls online and I'm really looking forward to meeting the one's I've narrowed down to my "short" list. I will say though, if I hadn't taken some advice on this forum, I was about to really screw myself over with the one girl I referenced above. I'm still in shock over that one and yes, a little bummed out.
Thanks for all the help from everyone and allowing me to use the forum in ways it was intended.
felice...one man's crap is another man's fully fertilized garden. As I said, because of the "crap" I've learned here, I was able to eliminate a lady I was just about ready to spend a lot of money on. I think if I hadn't been asked by so many girls for money or had not put my emotions out on the line with a couple of them that were scammers, I wouldn't be as gun shy. Just my experience. I now feel confindent with the few girls I am communicating with to "go with the flow" and enjoy it.
felice...nobody is forcing you to read my "crap". If you see my ID on a post, please leave your unconstructive comments to yourself and allow the space for others here to respond in a way that can help. I actually thought I could learn a lot from you, but we obviously have a personality clash.
Later.
RK, are you sure that these six ladies all have the same originating IP address? Emails get routed through various IP addresses, and if they are coming from the same city, or using the same internet provider, it is possible that they could have the same route at some point. (I'm no expert in IP addresses, however.)
I actually think that Felice has a bit of a point. It really seems like you are incredibly worried about all of this. International dating is more difficult than dating a lady in your own city. There are many issues involving trust, communication, cultural differences, etc... that honestly might continue to be a problem for you if you continue to be so analytical. I understand that you are trying to get advice from the forum, but I can't help but feel that this whole procedure will cause you a lot of grief in the future. I hope I'm wrong, because you seem like a very sincere guy, but it still worries me a little. The concern over a girl being a scammer, or being honest, or whatever doesn't stop once you meet her, once you start the K-1, or even once you marry her.
Incidentally, I have learned a lot from Felice over the years here. I think he really is trying to help you, in his own way.
VNV...these girls actually all had the same IP address, and I received letters from them at different times.
Please don't confuse my screening ladies profiles as being worried. Like many, I have recieved many letters and many of them show no warning signs in the beginning. However, I let my emotions get attached to one that ended up being a scammer, and then I just discovered the one last night that I had been communicating with for a few months. I guess I was getting a little burnt out on requests for money, and getting zinged emotionally a little from the two examples I talked about. The thing is, if I hadn't learned what I have here, I could have been zinged a lot worse. I know there are many wonderful ladies, and as I've said earlier, I am corresponding with a few that at this point show no warning signs and truly seem genuine. I just want to get rid of the obvious ones from the start and focus on the goods ones, and the advice here on this forum has enabled be to screen out quite a few bad apples. I totally agree with you that it doesn't stop once you meet her...I just don't want to meet the trouble makers from the start if I can help it. Kind of like doing a background security check. You can screen and deny a clearance to many, which is better than giving one to everybody, but there is no guarantee they won't turn on your country/corporation in the end. Thanks for your feedback...I appreciate it.
These girls that wrote to you with the same IP address....they wouldn't all be associated with the same agency would they? Just wondering if the agency is returning the response to you from their computer.
Well, if the girls are showing up again with the same photo and different names, then you've probably done a good job uncovering less than honest girls. Make sure you report them to fiance.com and let them take appropriate action.
I understand your approach, and I hope it works out for you. Sounds like you've got a good trip coming up, so make sure to keep us posted on your results.
Just for fun, why don't you go to an internet cafe and send yourself an email. Then when you get home you can look at the IP address, the Bat version, etc... and see what it looks like when you are sure it was from a real person. It might be helpful to know.
You know, just wondering about this same IP address thing. Most of the internet service that I've seen in Russia involved using a dial up service with a prepaid card that has a password. Does anyone know if that gives you the same IP address each time? I can't imagine that it would.
I would guess that each time you dial up and type in your password you get a different IP address, but I don't know.
Except for internet cafes, I don't know of anyone that has a permanent internet connection, like we have here in the U.S. Speaking of which, were these girls writing to you from the same city. Maybe they were are the same internet cafe?
Geez, now I'm becoming as analytical as you. Gotta go outside and stop thinking about this.
VNV, The static IP is assigned to a computer by the ISP. This will remain the same unless the computer changes providers. If you use say MSN then use Earthlink you will most likely have a different IP for each provider. It is the MAC address that is hard wired to the computer itself. The mac does not change but is also not available publicly. As I understand it (and I am not an expert) each computer in an internet cafe would have a slightly different IP. Also VNV, there are folks that have a permanent connection. Lena and her sister have cable Internet and is on 24x7. The pricing is expensive for their economy but it is possible to purchase packages that only allow a limited amout of data to be sent or reveived each month. The smaller packages are not too expensive.
VNV...you better go for jog to clear your head! I'm not an IP expert now either, but I have learned quite a bit here about it...I never even knew you could do that until I read it here a couple of weeks ago. I think wmferg is correct about a slightly different IP for each computer in an internet cafe. There is another lady I am very interested in and have been communicating with for a couple of months. Just for the heck of it, I went back and checked out the IP info on the letters she wrote me from an internet cafe. The numbrs were all the same except for the last digit on each one, which varied only a digit or two...thus supporting what wmferg wrote. I feel real good about meeting her in person. No guarantees, but I feel I am at a much better starting point than if I had not done anything at all.
wmferg or anybody else...do you know about how much it costs per month to have cable internet over there, and are there any start up costs (other than the hardware)?
In Ternopol it is around $60 per month for unlimited usage. I picked up the tab for unlimited as Lena and I spend about 4 hrs every Sunday on MSN Messenger using our web cams. I am not sure if there was any start up costs as Lena went on the cable provider just after we met and I was funding the Internet connection then.
RK - You are correct in checking out IP addresses. I do 98% of my business on the internet and do use an IP tracer to verify whom I am talking to, and where their e-mail was sent from.
You will find scammers in any country, not just FSU. But there are alot of honest women out there, you just have to wade through them to find the one that you are looking for. I too have found this site to be informative, providing insight about FSU countries and the persons that live there.
I would say that I have learned more from women/men from FSU countries, that come to this area every year (6,000 students) for summer jobs. Using what I have learned here and from them helps me understand more the lifestyle of those that I am seeking. Stick with it RK, you'll find what you are looking for...
Zephyr - Go to CNET.com, on the very right of the screen, click on downloads, then type in IP Trace in search box. From there, you will have alot of options to chose from. All software is free for use up to 30 days, so find one that you can work with. I have downloaded 3 applications, and use them when needed.
