The lady I am going to visit said that there are two SVO airports. I ran a search and found that she was right. I am 99% sure that it is SVO-2. This is the international airport. The other one looks to be domestic flights only. Is this correct? I should have added this to my last post but I forgot.....
Yes, you are somewhat correct. Really it's the same airport but different terminals that are on opposite sides of the common runways. For travelers making connections there is a free bus that runs between the two terminals or for the unsuspecting you can pay $50 for the 5 minute taxi ride. Mini buses also make the trip for about $2. The free bus runs about every 30 minutes and can be picked up outside of the ground level exits in the far pull thru lane.
And if you are in transit between SVO2 and SVO1 to pick up a domestic flight chances are good you already have a Russian visa (unles you are flying to a destination outside of Russia.)
Are you just flying to Moscow or will you continue on using a Russian domestic flight? If you are just going to Moscow you will use SVO2 and your entry should be very smooth. All you will need is your passport and your visa. They never give you a hard time about customs. I have brought in all kinds of computer equipment (printers, cameras, etc) and just walked on through. Watch the weight of your baggage as the US airlines have recently lowered the allowable weight. On Delta it used to be 70 or 75 pounds, but now anything over 50 pounds will be charged as excess baggage. Russian domestic flights are even more strict and will include the weight of your carry on in their calculations.
My wife (not that I am married of course) asked me to take her some gravy granules last week. Make sure you leave me the instructions how to make it she said, I did, they are written in 'pints', I was trying to explain 20 fluid ounces in a pint, 35 in a litre, but I'm not sure how her gravy is going to turn out :))
Too bad we can't universally use the metric system. Quick...what is half of 27 and 13/16's inches?? I remember when I was in grade school..mid 1960's (ugh) and we were told we now had to learn the metric system because in 10 years the US would be fully converted to metric..LOL Well, they did put speedometers in cars that had small blue numbers for kilometers/hour but I see even that is going away.
It's ok Martin. I'm in a constant state of confusion so I'm quite comfortable here in the forum :)
As far as pounds go....I could use a few pounds of pounds right about now.
I would actually rather convert to the metric system. I'm very familiar with it, but you know how stubborn we Americans are.
Neonred, we are staying one night in Moscow then we are taking a train to St. Petersburg and staying eleven days there. So I will just be using SVO2. Thanks for the heads up on the luggage. I should be all right unless my fat ass cat sneaks into it...LOL
The main reason I asked about this was the lady I am meeting is terrified she's going to show up at the wrong airport and make me wait. Now I can assure her that it IS SVO2. Thanks everyone for your feedback.
Jay..........
Good on you Jay !!!!
Good also to see you have chosen someone of compatible age. 46/38 – very good mix !!!!
You will enjoy SPB. The train trip I have done - it’s a breeze. Get 1st class cabin for two (which no doubt you have already)
August is a good month to visit SPB. Is your lady from there ??? Accommodation is very expensive there. I spent 3 weeks there in August 2004 – loved it.
Maxirat...Yes. She is the perfect age for me. I have a 15 year old daughter. I don't want to find a step-sister for her. :) She is from Nizhny Novgorod. She doesn't want to stay there because she is also on vacation (holiday). I can understand that. I wouldn't want to take a vacation in Denver. I'm adding NN to my visa just in case we decide to take a train there.
I'm booking the train soon. She is looking at departure times and will let me know. We are staying in an apartment. Just a one room flat but very nice.
She wants to cook for me so I'll be getting authentic Russian food while I'm there.
Thanks for the pics Martin. I need to go to work but I'll look at them when I get home.
Jay.....
