Hi every one,
It seems that lately i am coming up with some wierd q & a things. does anyone know if russian ladies need to be visited by a man before they are allowed out of the country. I thought the wall was gone but one lady told me that she could not come out to see me before i had officaily been to see her. I invited her to australia, expenses paid, after a good chunk of time getting to know her. i havent heard of this before but ihavent asked anyother ladies over either. any idea?
aussie.

Most of the time the answer is yes you need to have visited her if you want to invite her to Australia. The only exception maybe if she is well travelled to western countries, has a good job, family committments ie a good reason to return home, even then the visa maynot be issued. A few months ago some Aussie guys wrote what was required and that it was hard to get a visa for Australia. Have a read back a few pages and you should find it. Of course she can go to some other countries freely, its not the berlin wall stopping her coming to Australia its an aussie wall. The reason is also to protect her.
good luck
Ben
Aussie,
Are the Aussie authorities going to give her a visa, on your sponsorship, if you have never met her?
It is common knowledge that before a western country will give a visa that the two of you must have met and I guess she is referring to your authorities and not hers.
But ..... it would appear that she has applied for, and been denied, such a visa previously to have such a knowledge perhaps!
Ben and Martin,
i understand what your saying and i don't have a problem with that so to speak, but the way i understood the situation is that they wouldn't let her out of the country unless it was to say a "friendly" nation such as egypt. ( i'm not even sure if thats how you spell it). there she didn't need a visa and a few of the surounding islands. she has alos been to france and i believe that they still require a visa, so i really have no idea! i get the idea that she's travelled a bit so money is not the problem, she does have a good job and it seems that she has no real reason to leave. this is just part of the equation and i'm trying to put as much of it together as i can. as far as the aussie authorities are concerned they wouldn't save you from a raging bush fire if they had a water hose in thier hand, well not if it wasn't worth thier time and some good publicity.
sorry, i dont have a lot of faith in our pollies.
thanks guys,
aussie.
If she has the right visa she can travel whereever she wants. Her country would not stop her unless she doesn't have the correct visa to where her airplane ticket says she is going.
Aussie,
For any immigration issues then go to the following link:
http://www.delta.com/planning_reservations/plan_flight/international_t ravel_information/visa_passport_information/index.jsp
There is no restriction, providing she has an international passport, on leaving Russia except that before they will allow her on to an aircraft they need to check that she has a visa etc.
If she is travelling under how own steam to, let us say, Turkey then she must be able to prove that she is able to support herself and have accommodation arranged. Such resources are an attempt to eliminate prostitution and it is a common requirement for FSU's internationally, they need to travel with money and accommodation pre-booked.
For a country where she needs a visa than to apply for the visa she has to declare a reason for going there, if it were the UK then I would have to sponsor the application but if I had not yet met her then it's odds on that the authorities will refuse the application.
To summarise, there is no restriction on Russians leaving Russia but there is a restriction on Russians, indeed any nationality, leaving their country if they do not have the correct documentation for their destination and that is something that she does not have, nor will be likely to have, until the two of you can prove that you have met face to face.
The problem is for a single lady to get a visa to most countries. For example, it is almost impossible for an unmarried, youngish woman to get a visa to the U.S. for example.
It may, as Martin says, be attributed to "an attempt to eliminate prostitution." However, a more plausible explanation is that it is an attempt to prevent a population drain. It is well-known that the Russian population is decreasing, mostly due to low birth rates. The government does not want to make it easy for unmarried women to leave the country and end up immigrating.
Even to Russian people the visa process is not transparent. People seem to apply for visas without having any real understanding of whether they will get them or of why they were granted or denied.
"However, a more plausible explanation is that it is an attempt to prevent a population drain".
This is completely wrong. Most Western European countries have the same problem and their governments do not force Australia or America etc etc to restrict travel for their citizens nor does Russia or any CIS countries. Martin is more correct, (well not elimainate as such) Australia, US etc don't want lots of vistors coming to their country who cannot support themselves and potentially end up costing that country money or remaining in that country illegally.
It is true that getting a visit visa to Australia for a young single CIS lady is almost impossible.
Ok, i see where your going with this, that sounds pretty spot on. i know for a fact that a spousal visa is not easy to get and the gov wants a signed reassurance that i'll financially support the lady for a min period of 2 years regardless. not a problem unless she leaves in the first month!!!

aussie, you shoud have your head examined for trying to bring a girl to your place first, letters really tell you very little about the personality of a girl and how she really looks. Get on the plane. Do it right. Trust me on this. I wrote to a gal in FSU who looked great in pictures and letters but when i met her in person, she looked awful, had a goofy personality, and a horrible smell. FLY to her if you are really serious. Of course there is a chance she is great, but it is hardly a guarantee.
