Like most of us in here I am looking for that one and only. Not so long ago I read an article here in Iceland about two couples that went on vacation in Black sea/ Crimea area and they said it was just fantastic, good food, nice people, many intresting things to see and explore, nice beaches, everything very low priced, dining etc...It sounded to me as some undiscovered holiday area that not many foreigners do visit jet..So ..I was thinking, is this true? and would that be a place to go and maybe at the same time meet some nice girl..
I would be very thankful if someone who is familar with this area would comment on this.
Greetings, Olafur.
Olafur,
People are lovely as long as you're careful and hang out in the right areas.
Beaches, yes but I'll reserve comment if they are nice or not, depends what you are comparing them to.
Food is cheap or reasonably priced but a novelty to find it of the same quality as back home. They don't call it lamb, they call it mutton which should explain it enough but overall, for the price you pay it is generally good and in my regular city of Zaporozhye there is only one restaurant that I will decline to eat in and if 'Mustang' you are listening then I'm talking about you!
I wouldn't regard anywhere in Ukraine as idealic, please understand that you will be in a poor country but in 2 weeks from now I'm back there for my 11th or 12th time thus it can't be that bad.
The city of Yalta on the southern part of Crimea is the destination of choice for the tourist with money. 80% will be the wealthy Ukrainians and Russians. The other 20% will be all other foreigners. Yalta is considered expensive and I found it to be true. All other coastal cities will be much less to very cheap but remember this will not be American or Western Euro standards in service and quality. You will be shocked and disappointed. Many of my Ukrainian friends are getting fed up with Crimea. The service is just so terrible that they are looking for somewhere else to holiday now. Turkey is growing more and more as a favorite. But you can meet the ladies Crimea. There is a mass migration of girls taking their holiday at the seaside during the months of July and August. But as a foreign tourist it will be difficult to navigate around Crimea to find them. But it can be done with good planning and hire some local support. Bottom line is I don't think this will be some cheap vacation. As for the beaches. Almost all are stone beaches. On the west side of Crimea there are some with sand. When I think of beautiful beaches I think of Hawaii or Caribbean. Not Crimea and the Black sea. Good luck.
He guys
I was in Crimea in July of last year. I agree that Yalta was a little more expensive than the rest of the area but the whole place was great. I stayed in a resort in Alushta. It is just north of Yalta on the coast. It is more resonably priced than Yalta. We had a great time. Their was a water park, nice beaches with lots of women. Took a day and went quad riding. Generally a beautiful place. Rode the overnight train from Dnepropetrosvk to Simferopol then an hour ride in a mini bus to the resort.
hello all, i live in far east Ukraine, many of my friends travel to the Sea of Azov for holiday, of course this area does not carry the prestage that Criema does, but for the low budget traveler, it may be a decent alternative
I just visited yalta I enjoyed it alot the only complaint no sand on the beaches the prices where a lot less than most beach resort communities If you are looking for a good steak forget it. there is plenty to do.
I visited the famed Varna in Bulgaria, but found it to be pretty dirty and old. Black Sea seemed to polluted to swim in. The only attraction there was the topless beach with babes of all ages.
if u want to kill 2 birds with one stone -meet a russian girl and have good time at the seaside- then u d better go to egypt:) a lot of russian tourists go there on vacations (of course u would meet more women in the crimea). the crimea is overpriced and the beaches r dirty (u may see garbage in the water). the service is terrible.
The Mustang restaurant in Zaporozhye is very posey, very American, nice comfortable surroundings but the food is bland and shite, just very plain and ordinary, poor quality, cheap cuts of veal, and overpriced by the US Air Force decor etc.
If you're in Zaporozhye again then try a pepper steak in O'Briens Irish Pub or, if in the summertime, sit out on the veranda at Billy Bones and try some of their meat dishes, there's also a place (that sounds like) Zieemcar, a Siberian style decored restaurant where many celebreties dine, again very good food.
Now you try those and then come back and say the food, not the decor, at Mustang is enjoyable, the food is only fit for my mother-in-law's dog :)
I would tell to use a boat if I felt like being unfunny.
But seriously; you'd be hard pressed to find a passage direct from Egypt to Ukraine by sea.
Probably have to either charter a boat or get on a cruise.
