I would like to use this forum for something more than talk about scams, and it is to learn about Russia and Russian women.
I've written to some women and I find that Russian women seem much more cultured than westerns. Most girls profiles include reading and theatre in their preferences. Many of them have high studies, and many speak (at least a little) some foreign language. They are usually interested in books (not only about the excellent Russian literature), and they attend cultural events like theatre, ballet, etc...
I find that very interesting, because I think it is rare to find a good looking western girl that have ever read a book. I have lived in different western countries and cities and it is like everywhere like that (except in Paris).
What does our moderator thinks? Is it like that? It is that changing?
Also, I read a lot around here about family values in Russia, and that Russian women are devoted and loyal wives. But I think that Russian women (from Soviet times) traditionally have worked and studied much more than western women. It's only been a few years since most women in western countries were only housekeepers and started to work and study in numbers.
The girls here are for the most part able to emigrate to Canada or to the US in terms of immigration points but lack other stuff to get there. This means that they are well-educated but seemingly stuck at that. This leaves a lot of room for scamming to take place.
If she obtained her degree pre-1989 then the chances are she is highly cultured and you need not worry. If afterwards, then, like everywhere else in the world, her received education and cultural heritage would have dropped. But this drop is both much more dramatic and much more extreme than in the rest of world. So if she is under 35 then you don't know if she bought her degree, studied so hard (to beat the ones that did pay) and so missed out in the cultural education bit or whether her family and greater family were able, or willing, to give her the regular and proper Soviet culture and teachings when she was young (as in later part of Soviet era or perestroika).
It is not only about university degree's. You can also buy a degree on the internet in UK, USA, or any other country. It seems that books, theatre, ballet, classical music... are more popular in Russia among the young than in the West. I like that.
I have noticed in the photos in the profiles that the women often have a picture where they stand in front of a bookshelf - with actual books in it!
Mention an author to a western woman and she reacts as if it is a town in Siberia (which she also knows nothing about!)!
I had the most interesting conversation with a young Moscovite couple (late twenties) in February in Montengro. We were both looking for property to buy there. They had travelled most places I had, except Afghanistan (for obvious reasons) but had spent 5 separate weeks holiday in the USA and had a very good appreciation of cultural political trends. They're viewpoint: there will be another Russian-American showdown of might in the future with EU caught in the middle. Best discussion I had in years.
I can't but be surprised if their friends and acquantainces, all of good professional standing (earning over 5000 USD per month) have similar thinking.
The growing no. of Russian millionaires, mostly up to 40, is growing more rapidly than any othet country outside Asia.
Makes you wonder who are those Russian women on this site seeking to marry abroad for passports: are they the ones that couldn't adapt to change or the ones that just can't be bothered and are too lazy because they can lie back and get all the attention they need from BOTH their own men and foreign men? And these are not scammers, but simply lazy and simple people
entertainment and outdoor activities are much less than westernised countries...the fact they have degree's is because they have universities right next door to their home's and not much else to do with their spare time...i met one with 3 degree's and she told me she cheated to get one of them and helped others to cheat to get their's..she is only 31 and told me they cannot cheat anymore because it obviously became so rife that institute's installed camera's to prevent cheating...
as for cultured...when the only entertainment available (apart from becoming an alcoholic and or prostitute) is theatre, puppet show's,opera's,museum's etc...it only seem's natural they would become more "apparently" cultured...if these forms of entertainment deem a person "cultured"..then yes they are cultured...
give them movie theater's,shopping malls, night club's,pop concert's,mobile phone's,american TV etc and slowly watch the culture change to be just like that in the west...shame really...though none the less a growing reality.
delta9,
russians do have american TV, cell phones and reality shows and malls, and....
the reason, why they put that kinda info about their LOVE to art - is because you guys expect that
you expect her to be feminine, educated, love literature and being able to keep a NICE conversation
you want her to wear skirts, long hair and high hills and be all that different from women of your country
ask those girls when was the last they really attended those museum or art gallery - you'd be surprised. either lied.
that's the truth - you want a DREAM girl - you kinda get it))
Bella,
lets not confuse those who are new here...just like american Tv,cellphones, malls, reality show's etc.."all" relatively "new" entertainment's to those in Russia...especially when you compare this to those in the west who have grown up on this type of technology and entertainment...we call it capitalism...as i recall you used to call it socialism/communism..a big difference either way and only 15 years of change, not even one generation yet!
I expect all women to be feminine...if they are not then they are masculine...and not the type of women any man searches(unless he's gay and or weird)...i dont expect them/you to be able to hold a conversation, love art, wear skirt's,high heels etc...what i and the men here expect is honesty...not a woman who "assumes" she knows what we want to hear...simple really.
