I am finally free for a bit and am going to go to the ukraine and hopefully moldova next week. I think the best way is to go to Bucharest and take the train or Kiev. Kiev is further away though according to "my" moldavian ladies. I could fly direct from Birmingham to Kiev you see, but it is £150 return and I prefer to get cheap ryanair flights, but he only goes to south east poland which is still a fair way from kiev and moldova. I think from Lvov to Kiev it is about 8 hours by train, not sure. Maybe someone knows on here.
Can I get a visa on the train at the border between the Ukraine (or Romania) AND Moldova? Or do I have to get it in London first before I leave as one post said if you have a moldovan embassy in your country, you should get it there first. I believe registration with the cops is not necessary now since spring 2006 too. Anyway, I am excited now to meet all these ladies. There are a couple I want to meet in russia too, but I need to pay for a visa and travel for hours by train to get to Moscow from the Ukraine, unless I fly with airbaltic. Dunno what aeroplane they use for ukraine-russia flights though!!!
Borer
i think it would be a lot less trouble and stress to fly from Birmingham direct to kiev and then fly on to Odessa and get a train or minibus to Moldova. Just for for sake of saving some pounds it just aint worth the hassle.
By the way do speak any Russian language or are you just going blag your way through Ukraine to Moldova?
boredfukka,
If you can't afford to pay for a return flight to Ukraine then you seriously need to think again, this process that you are about to embark upon is going to cost thousands and thousands.
visas between Ro and moldava are easy at the road border - but dont take the train or you will be stopped and told to take taxi to road border!
Bucharest - Chisianu by road is max 6 hours (4.5 hours to border). By train is 12 hours or more
Take minibus from Bucharest centre and not taxi - taxi airport centre is max 50 RON (new lei) and dont get confused with change over of currency this summer (1 new lei is 10,000 old lei).
Many of our team are driving up that way with EU delegation next week but I dont know you so sorry!
Expect cars to drive 160 on straiht stretch and 70 in villages!
It is after all the best non motorway road in RO.
Dont stop on main high street in Bucharest - cause u will be harassed by girls proposing themselves to you - unless of course u r on rollerblades or with a girl already. I avoid that street unless i am with my girlfriend
I have done the Chisinau (Moldova) train to Odessa. About 5 hours....wood bench seats....cold if in the winter....very inexpensive but a big hassle to get the correct ticket window for "foreigners" at the train station in Chisinau. I would not try to get the Moldova visa at the train border xing....I would get it directly from embassy in Washington. You never get to get off train. Otherwise, the border guards were ok although they would hassle the nationals they knew lived abroad...looking for $$$$. They never bothered me. You could also get the ticket through an agency but will cost you more, and oh yes...try to get it ahead of time if you can, like the day before. There is really no first class, only the wagon with the "video" movies...(1 tv set up above). It is probably the better class. If not, give yourself plenty of time!!!!
Trains between Kiev and Odessa; ask for sleeper car-first class- 2 bottome births per cabin. under $50. Overnight ride both ways. Do not be surprise if they aswk to see your passport..and keep it for a little while...just make sure you give it only to the uniformed lady. Carry a couple extra bucks for the sheets. No showers and restroom minimal. I would buy a small bottle of Vodka and a few snacks to share with your roomate, in case he is a male. Makes for good relation and you will feel much safer. If you get a female roomy, just step out for a few while she changes into her sleeping clothes. I got lucky and had a beautiful english speaking Ukrainian lady....talked for a while then lights out. you will wake up as you arrive your destination.
There is also carpatair from Targes Mures in romania direct to chisinau I looked.
Dunno what Martin-UK is on about costing thousands. I am only going to meet some ladies I have been writing to. Maybe nothing will happen at all. I could afford a flight direct to Kiev, but I just prefer goiong the cheap way if possible for £20 lol. But yeh, 150 return from Brum aint to bad really. Do you have to pay in Romanian currency at the road border Beanstobe or do you have to pay in Moldovan currency (whatever that is)? OH yeh, and can you exchange currency for moldovan at the border as well?
(There is also carpatair from Targes Mures in romania direct to chisinau)
Oh no there isn't!
I was in Carpatair's offices only 2 days ago and I'll be back there again on Monday thus I do have a knowledge of their route network, if you want to check then go to www.carpatair.com or their 'sister' airline Moldovian Airlines on www.mdv.md
Boredfukka,
The cost of the airfare is so minor in comparison to what you will spend when you are there, unless you are to eat at McDonalds and go by bus rather than taxi and if you're just out for a quick shag then the ladies will detect this a mile off, if on the other hand your looking for something long term and perhaps leading to marriage then the process is going to cost thousands and thousands and don't believe for one minute that an FSU lady will be happy to live your Ryanair type lifestyle.
RK,
Put it this way, if she can fly, cost effectively, let us say with Ukraine International direct from London to Kiev where the drinks and hot meal are complimentary then why on earth would she want to take the train(s) across different countries to connect with an aeroplane whereas you are boarded as if you are cattle, the seat backs don't recline and stale sandwiches and warm beer need to be paid for at expensive prices?
Ryanair uses 737s just like any other "expensive" airline flying to European destinations. If you want to pay £500 for a leather seated Lufthansa 737 and a "hot" meal, then go for it. I can't see why a FSU lady will turn down a marriage just coz you look for the best tickets available direct to Stansted or wherever. But the aircraft are the SAME whatever compan you use. I still can't see what is going to cost me thousands, even if I want more than just a quick shag..which I don't coz if I want a quick shag, I can go to a club and pick a chick up or phone a few numbers in a paper.
It will probably be best to actually fly direct to Kiev with aerosvit for 150 as Ryanair don't go to anywhere near the south east Ukraine yet and it isnt summer now. Plus I live near Bham airport not STansted so I have to add on 40 quid anyway. So 150 isnt too bad... But I would never pay silly 500 LH or such prices from Brum when you dont need to nowadays. Anyway, I dont want to argue about how much and who is best etc. I was just wondering about the best way to get to my destination at a reasonable cost
Boredfukka,
Do you really believe that a lady looks at the name on the side of an aeroplane or does she consider the seat pitch, does the seat recline, does she get a nice meal and drinks etc.
In this day and age there is no such thing as an expensive airline if you know how to book the tickets, indeed Ryanair have B737-800's, a more modern aircraft than Ukraine International's B737-300/400/500's but most people preferred to fly on Concorde despite it being a 1950's design.
In 2 weeks time I'm travelling with Austrian Airlines Heathrow-Vienna-Dnepropetrovsk, with seats that recline, for GBP138.10 return, are Austian Airlines one of your expensive airlines? Last time I paid GBP255.00 return on Luftwaffe, half the price of your quoted GBP500.00. I look for the best tickets available, I'm something of an expert in it, but tickets to my destination and not at some stop off point only part of the way there.
Ryanair will never go to Ukraine until such time as Ukraine joins the EU, they will not have the traffic rights to do so until then. Now please itemise your spending during your next trip and work out your daily expenditure, I would guess it to be well in excess of GBP100.00 per day but you will lose atleast one day of such valuable time by trying to save GBP20.00 thus it is a false economy.
A lady may agree to marry you but when you say that we must shop for food at Asda, shop for cosmetics as Asda (Asda is Wal-Mart to the US readers), that when you go out for an evening meal it must be to the cheapest restaurant and so on and so on then the marriage ain't likely to last more than a few weeks.
boredfukka, you're either 'tighter than a duck's ass' or you can't afford to enter in to this process in the first instance, either way you're going to fail and that is the truth.
If your ultimate destination is Kiev then go to http://travel.kelkoo.co.uk/b/a/c_172201_flights.html and search, also try www.tescotravelstore.com/site/travel/flights/homepage.html?skin=tesco&CATEGORY=f lights_list which is 'lastminute.com' under a different banner but you get Clubcard points. You quoted GBP150 on Aerosvit from Brum I supect is excluding the 'extra's', you need to click the next button to find out the true price.
Boredfukka,
A) You can pay in USD/EUROS/RO LEI at border Ro-Mol
B) Fly to IASI (pronounced Iash) as it is international airport & is 1 hour drive to Chisinau.
C) MALEV has (appaerently-I was told today) cheap flights (100-150 euros) between UK/EIRE and Romania at the moment.
JUST DO IT.
IF YOU ARE WORREID ABOUT MONEY TO SEE A GIRL THEN YOU WILL BE PROBABLY CUT YOUR JOURNEY OFF SHORT
Thanks Beany and Martin. I wont fail Martin...I know what I want and I am gonna get it before im 40 (3 months to go lol). Look, I just dont like paying flight companies a lot thats all. I dont care about restaurants. Any meal in any restaurant isnt gonna cost more than 20quid a piece esp in the Ukraine.
Beanstobe: How much is the visa at the road border? I hope they dont rip you off at the border. But it might be cheaper than going through the embassy....think its £22 if I remember right at the embassy. I am gonna check out that Malev flight and the Vienna one too. Sounds quite good.. but aerosvit direct Kiev from Brum is hard to beat. Martin if I see a £1.99 flight to Rzeszow in Poland with you know who I might take that LOL.
I wont fail. I have about 20 chicks to choose from so far and some are really hot and one is a doctor and keeps asking me if I am getting a visa to russia. She is a hot 37yo blonde. OH yes...anyone know if I can get a visa to russia at the border between ukraine and russia? And beanstobe...how did you get on in Moldova? What are the ladies like to talk to over there? Are they nice and friendly?
boredfukka,
You mention less than GBP20 per meal in Ukraine, well in O'Briens Irish pub in Zaporozhye, O'Briens have a pub in Kiev too, I can regularly spend USD100 (ish) for two people.
As I mentioned previously that Aerosvit fare would be exclusive of the extra's that Aerosvit chargw. I just tried book the GBP145 fare for later in October, the fare was no longer available, then I tried the GBP200 fare but the same, eventually clicking the GBP225 fare it came up as a fare of USD440.00 + USD99.08 extra's, a total of USD519.08, a little bit different to GBP150!
Birmingham is my most convenient airport also, I'm flying out of there tomorrow morning going back to Roamania via Munich and if you want cheap car parking at Birmingham then I park at Hampton-in-Arden rail station for free and jump on the train for three minutes to/from the airport at GBP1.20 each way.
You see I am fully aware of when to spend and not to spend money but you can be in Kiev 3.5 hours after taking off from UK but with your Ryanair option you're going to land in some remote airfield, then a taxi to a local rail station, you're probably going to need to change trains, trains in Ukraine only seem to travel at one speed i.e. bl00dy slow, there's train fares to pay, food and drink also and you can arrive in Ukraine as fresh as a daisy or bedraggled after your trains, planes and automobiles excursion.
ok thanks Mart
Thats a lot for a pub meal innit? What do you eat? Irish caviar and 10 pints of guiness? :) and what do you keep going over to the Ukraine for if you already have a Ukrainian wife? Soz to be nosey, just curious thats all. Thanks for the parking tip too, although I can go direct to Bham airport by train from Leamington spa.
One entry visa to Moldova is 150 Euros (for British citizens). That was in March this year.
BUT THE VISA TAKES UP ONE FULL PAGE ON YOUR PASSPORT...
AND...
If you have insufficient pages on your pages then you might have a problem...
Because...
Of the UK Embassies to take a long time to issue a new passport (5-10 days) when you are abroad-because of the new Biometric passport that comes out in January.
I got into Moldova via Romania. I was stopped at train station at border at 3am and instructed to go out as there was no visa personnel at station. I waited till 6am to take a taxi to border and then another taxi to Moldova. But many problems because over 1m of snow fell and border staff for visas couldn't get to border.
I was lucky I took a taxi from Romanian border direct to Nikolaev - but it cost me 250 USD becauseof snowfall and road closure in Modlova (following Russian army fighting).
BEST TO GO TO UKRAINE BY CAR FROM ROMANIA VIA GALATZ - UNLESS U R STOPPING IN CHISINAU.
alternatively forget about ure girls advice to go to Romania first. Rather get cheap flights directly from Burmingham to Odessa or kiev (as Martin says).
