Half of Moldova is already in Bucharest - since donkeys years.
Moldova would normally have come along with the other Balkan countries entering EU, Montenegro, serbia, Bosnia and Albania.
But because of the Transnistri occupation by Russian troops then it is highly unlikely.
Especially following Ukraine and more recently Bielarusie's elections.
2015 seems therefore more likely
Mark my words: Moldova will never be in the EU. Russian might is back, and since Moldova was part of the USSR, Russia will suck it back into Russian Federation. Half of Moldova to the east of river Nister (AKA independent part of Moldova) is already eager to join Russia.
Moldova has nothing to offer anyone, it makes Aldershot look like paradise, the girl i met was very pretty, but it didn't work out, i felt very safe there.
DrKoop, 20 years ago who would have thought many of the new EU countries would ever be part of the EU? Moldova will have Romania on its side to support its membership now. Those on the east of Nister want independence and not to join Russia, the problem for Russia and those who do want to join is the fact that its suck between the Ukraine and Romanian Moldova and not connected to Russia. Never say never, even Russia may join the EU one day.
Romania, Bulgaria and Poland weren't part of the USSR; Moldova was. Belarus is back in Russian Federation. Russia has swayed Ukraine back from it's Orange Revolution. Moldova and Georgia are next, while China and Russia work on kicking the US out of the rest of central Asia.
Yes but Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia were occupied, taken over, by the USSR, they were never a 'natural' part of the USSR and indeed hated the Russians.
Latvia is doing very well now, my company bank account is with a Latvian bank.
I think you'll find the same is true about Moldova. I looked at opening a Latvian bank account but was put of by the fact a couple of their banks collapsed a while back. Unlikely to happen now but still I wasn't putting my money in one of their banks.
Yes, gotta be careful with these east Euro banks. I shared a cab ride with a Greek from Bucharest airport once, who had lost nearly half a million dollars when his Romanian bank closed down, and was now looking for connections to get some of it back. These closures were more due to corruption than anything else.
Since Latvia became a Republic they have become another banking country, supported/promoted by the government, thus are comparible in banking terms to Switzerland & Luxembourg, they cannot be compared to Romania etc.
My mother in law, who had saved and saved all her life, lost everything during the fall of the USSR when banks suddenly closed their doors overnight, I haven't read too much of the fine print regarding my Latvian bank account but I'm sure it is protected somehow.
