I was taking a taxi to Vinnitsa and the taxi driver brought his wife along. they started scaring me half way and I jumped out of the taxi and now I have left the dirty, groggy, backwards Ukraine and could not complete my plans to meet some women in Odessa.
Be careful taking taxis in the Ukraine. The police wont help you. They hate foreigners I think.

Boredfukka,
You should have first visited your embassy's website details concerning travel before going there - and got info on this site or other to find out about taxi rides in Ukraine.
A taxi driver in romania brought his wife along when taking me to Ukraine via Moldova. It was great - she provided food, tea, chat etc. Anything less would be boring and even more scary!
So we wonder what happened to you boredfukka?
Robbing?
Police?
If it was a registered taxi with a counter and licence then you would expect police to be receptive. Did you get a lift?
I've heard of a cabbie talking customer into having a drink together in Sofia, Bulgaria, and next thing, customer woke up naked on street. This was back in 2001, when their economy suffered a near collapse. Also, I've heard of cabbies robbing customers at knife-point in Urumqi, China within a couple of miles of the ride from airport there.
I picked him up from the taxi rank outside Uzghorod station. Actually I wasnt getting into his taxi, but he flashed me his lights and the guy in the taxi I was getting into thumbed backwards for me to get into the other taxi.
He took me to his apartment after I told him I wanted to go to Vinnitsa. His wife gave me Borsh soup and showed me their wedding photos (he was 42 she 21).
He took me to the bankomat and I got 250dollars out. Set off, all ok till bout halfway then they started saying crazy things like "interpol" and "security services" and started laughing and the wife said her english level had suddenly dropped from a 5 to a 2.
I heard 2000 mentioned so thought they were gonna try some con to get 2000 out of me. SO, at the traffic lights I saw another taxi and jumped out and told the taxi there was a problem. They gave me my bag back, which was in the car boot by the way. I reported them to the police but they didnt have a translator to take an official complaint. I thought I saw the cops loitering round the station in the morning too seeing what train I got on and I also think I had some harrassment in Lvov later but not sure if it is related (my hotel phone went off and the man had to come to repair it, and also the hotels bankmat ate up my credit card and the man came to give it me back).
So.....Fuck the Ukraine. What a shit hole. If the women want to meet me somewhere in another country then fine but I am not going back there again, it is too dodgy for foreign guys
boredfukka,
In 2 days time I shall be returning to Ukraine for the 12th time, as long as you are with a Ukrainian national, a friend, then there is no problem whatsoever. 2.5 years ago I travelled by taxi Odessa to Zaporozhye and return, prebooked it via the internet, and no problem whatsoever and 1.5 years ago I travelled by taxi, one I called locally, from Nikolaev to Zaporozhye and again with no problem whatsoever.
The only problems I have are with the police and security at Dnepropetrovsk airport, I have never had such a problem at Kiev, Odessa or Zaporozhye airports, whereas they keep trying to fine me USD20 or confiscate something from me, I just give them one of those looks whilst refusing to pay and they learn allbeit the hard way.
I think that you were being extremely bravado, perhaps foolhardy, taking taxi's etc. on your first visit to such a country, you hadn't allowed yourself the time to learn their ways etc. but Ukraine is not 'dodgy' if you know your way around and understand the culture of the people and just be a little careful of jumping into cars. It is a fact, around the world, that airport taxi's, train station taxi's, will charge more than regular taxi's, Ukraine is no different, you could have flown in to Uzghorod airport, prebooked a taxi by internet, and things would have run smoothly but you had to do it your way and now you're complaining as a result.
I cant see why picking up a taxi from a taxi rank should have idiots trying to scare you either. All the other taxis I took were ok. Just this one thats all. Plus I got an infection (temperature, diarrhea, vomit) and I wonder if it was the water I drank or not. ANyone know?
I am goin home tomorrow. Too ill and too cold at the moment to do anything really. gonna take some fags back to get my money back LOL
If you drank water from the tap in Ukraine then you are your own worst enemy, they have air pollution, water pollution and Chernobyl and you drink the water???
Yep, buy the cigarettes in Ukraine but they are not western cigarettes, they are crap, you'd be better off buying them in somewhere like Slovakia but then you're only looking at the price tag and not the quality of the product.
this is why I don't mind paying a bit extra for things such as direct flights and not flying Ryan air to say poland, and taking a 8-10? hour train to the ukraine, or would i stay in a cheap arse hotels or drinking tap water. Also local advice is not to be ignored especially on your first trip. Boredfucker may have saved one hundred pounds on flights, another say hundred pounds on hotels and a few pounds on water but at the end of the day all he got out of it was some cheap smokes. However at least he can post his problems here so others can learn.
I guess if you go on holiday you should hope for either a really good holiday or a really bad one so when you get back home at least youve got something to tell friends and neighbours. Getting kidnapped in a taxi is far more interesting than reading a book while tanning by the hotel pool.
Ha Ha HA
I am home now. I have started eating again. Dont scare me with that CHernobyl thing. It is in the north of the country and the danger zone is around chernobyl not Lvov. I did not know you could not drink hotel tap water, not that I drank much, just a glass or two. We should be warned of these things before we go AND it should say in the hotel bathroom "DO NOT DRINK THE TAP WATER" if you are not supposed to. But it didn't. Not that that's where I defo got the food poisoning anyway.
