Do you think for a moment that the money you send to help her take lessons...is ACTUALLY going to the lessons? If you were getting money from a person in another part of the world...would you do what they said? Of course not. Because you can just keep the money, play along with what they say, and get away with it.
If you guys are drooling over young hot girls who want to learn English so they can talk with you, tell them they need to get a job or second job in their country so they can pay for it THEMSELVES.
I admit to making that mistake once. Thankfully, it wasn't too much of a setback for me. You simply can't trust someone overseas when it comes to money. For those of you guys who are new at this "Russian Bride" thing, NEVER send money to them for anything if you haven't met face to face. I'm doing my part to help put the "gold-diggers" in their place.
Never send money to someone you've never met, is a policy that needs to be adhered too. Also even if you have met it is prudent on one's part to be careful of sending money. In the area of Ukraine my wife is from, English lessons are around 40-60 dollars a month, depending on the teacher and the frequency of the lessons.
Also, FYI most women under that age of 25 at least the ones I have met in Ukraine have a good comprehension of the English language. It is the most sought after language to learn from the younger Ukrainians. My wife who was a speach therapist and language teacher for many years in Ukraine, spoke limited English when we met. After a year of lessons her understanding of the language has increased exponentially. She still attends lessons here in the states because she wants to be fluent. After ten months of living here, she has little problems with understanding the language with the exception of some of us speaking too fast and then she has to ask them to slow down or the southern dialect gives her some difficulty.
Two things I would recommend for you ladys if you are the stage of working on a K1, during that interem, have her work on english and also driving lessons, if she doesn't drive. It makes life a lot simpler when she comes to the states or anywhere else for that matter.
David.
Do you have any other pearls of wisdom to share with us such as-do not walk across the road when cars are approaching.
or do not jump in to fast flowing rivers.
(also driving lessons, if she doesn't drive. It makes life a lot simpler when she comes to the states or anywhere else for that matter.)
Oh no it doesn't if she's relocating to a country where they drive on the other side of the road, sit in the other side of the car and sit on the other side of the gear shift.
Having only had a similar conversation some 3 weeks ago, and myself having driven for many years on different sides of roads, I can recall it took one hell of a lot of getting used to when the rules of the road are direct opposites from each other and one big problem, for an inexperienced driver, would be sitting the wrong side of the gear shift whereas to select gears ones hand actions are opposites also.
I recall renting a car in the US, taking time to think about where I was going to drive, checked out the road layout, remembered the gears and indicators on the opposites sides. Walked to the car sat down and went to put on hands on the steering wheel and realized I was sitting in the passengers seat.
And I suppose nasfan6 that you were the perfect driver from day 1 after passing a driving test!
The subject relates to a person taking driving lessons before relocating to another country. Now if the rules of driving in that other country are opposites to the persons own country, as an inexperienced driver, it is better not to learn at all than to learn and then to have to do everything totally opposite to the way one has learn.
nasfan6 is happy though, he's only happy when he's got someone to argue with.
maybe Nasfan was Martin who knows? For the record though I tend to agree with his viewpoint.Yes it takes a little more thought changing sides in a motor vehicle, but if the concentration level is maintained then it should'nt cause too many problems.
Too many car drivers just switch off as soon as they close the door.As a motorcyclist and a car driver (together with an HGV licence),I have had enough close shaves with drivers who leave their brain in neutral when driving.
Care, concentration and awareness, the 3 essentials sadly lacking in many motorists.
I had to smile at what Ben said, at the same time I owned 2 cars, one LHD and the other RHD, and it wasn't uncommon to get in the wrong side. I still have 2 LHD cars but fortunately they are in storage, I just have the RHD in day to day use.
Glad it's just like some European motocross bikes I have ridden, shift with the right foot instead of the left one. Just means you have to think and be intelligent behind a wheel.
I hear you on the idiot drivers. Especially when you are on the bike and with the advent of cell phones it's become a hell of a lot worse especially here in the states. People don't pay attention, hell when they drive they still think they are in their living rooms.
If you can't comprehend driving on the other side of the road then you don't need to be driving. It doesn't matter which side of the road you drive on it's the education you receive to drive with intelligence and responsibility.
Beautiful girls who dont speak english.
I am mother of teenager 18 years old. He is in absolutely ordinary state school. He studies english, russian, german. Hes english is good, russian worse, but he reads, speaks and understands, german is crap but he knows a bit. Hes native language estonian is absolutely not similar to these languages.
In Ukraine-Russia I am sure if girl is finished secondary school she must know at least ONE foreign language. At least she must hold basic conversation!
I was in Moscow in mid-October. From there, I took a 16-hour bus ride to south Russia where my relatives live. On my return trip to Moscow, I took a 4-hour taxi ride to Volgograd, where I hopped the plane back to Moscow. Everywhere I went, I encountered at least one person who spoke basic English. In fact, most of the teenagers and young adults I encountered spoke English that was clearly understandable to native English speakers.
