They Drive on the right hand side of the road. You can obtain an International Drivers license at Tripple-a AAA, The cost is that of a passport photo. This license will allow you to drive in Russia along with you valid home country drivers license. It will let you drive in Russia with out having to pay for a designated license translation service in Ruissia. Currently Auto insurance is Optional, However the state department along with Tripple-A recommends you obtain liability insurance in Russia. The average cost for a days rental in Russia is 35.00 USD. As of July the last I heard, Auto insurance will become madnitory. If you drive in Russia its a good Idea to learn the signs before you drive. Not all the roads have international standards for signs. Also be ready to pay Police fines on the spot. Its normal practice to pay fines on the spot in cash. A word of advice about driving in Russia. Don't!
I drive here for a living and I can handle any situation no problem, but I took one look at the way Russians drive and hailed a cab.
