Assuming that one meets and eventually marries a russian lady and all goes well. From the U.K. it is quite easy to hop on a plane to FSU for her to see her family and friends from time to time. Is it possible to purchase an apartment or even something larger to have as a holiday home, and if so, what kind of sums of money would we be talking about?
Has anyone here already done this?
tringa,
First of all there are many countries in FSU all with different rules, you say your lady is Russian but do not state in which country she resides.
Next, FSU property prices are totally dfiferent prices dependant upon if the property is in a large city or a tiny village and also dependant upon what condition it may be in.
Thanks for your input Martin.
I have only just recently began corresponding with a lady from
Volgograd so dont think I will be doing any thing too quickly.
My question was meant as a very general one as I have never even heard of anyone buying property in the FSU and so wondered if it is particularly cheap to buy and in fact available to purchase when one does not permanently reside there.
Any examples that anyone could give would be interesting.

as Martin says it all depends on where you want to buy, in the center of Kiev you are looking at $5000 a sq meter,
In sevastopol in you are looking at $2000 - $2500 a sq meter depending on which street,
I have several apt's here and its much easyer to buy here than in UK,
and far less hassle if you want to rent it out
If your not Russian you won't be purchasing property in Russia, period. Only Russian citizens can purchase property like land or houses. Buisness is different but registering it if you are not Russian is a major pain in the backside. If you marry a Russian woman she can purchase it for you but trying to purchase it on your own, all I can say is good luck. I've been here 3 years & I am still renting!!! But I am working on a game plan, LOL.
Purchasing a property ok right up my ally i own apartment in russia - martin is correct but you buy it with your russian girl you can only ever own 48% of it she has name on title you too , but your the under dog ! thats fine thats how i bought mine i had to lay out $37,000 usd but that was 3 years back ,
you guys are right prices vary radically -hey dont buy main street frontage in the big cities --------if mafia decide its prime to them they will just help emselves you will lose the lot .
Mine is set back from main drag - of no commercial value to mafia ! so iam left alone .
look the $3000 to $5000 a metre sure in moscow / st peters but i mean hey who'd want to live in those joints??? -you could not pay me $1000 a week rest of life for free to live in those joints.
only tossing yourself into risk ---------and big risk i had in year 1999 / 2001 an apartment in st peters ( kolpino ) i could not get rid of it quick enough -your a target thier expelling of wealth and wealth to a russian is somebody with 10k in the bank = big target = bulls eye .
GOOD PLACE TO BUY APARTMENT HMM OK ROSTOV , YOSHKAR OLA , CHEBOKSARY , FEW OTHER JOINTS !
Moscow my god what sane westerner would want to live in that joint take out the prostitutes / yuri's / gangsters, / bent cops / every other form of graft you would end up 500 honest ones left and 350 of those i'd be tourists , mans mad to live in moscow i lived thier 13 weeks once i near said prayers each day -if ever there was a total den of corruption in the world = thats it !!!!!
I WAS a nervous wreck end of 13 weeks thier -no definately go the tiny towns i reackon smaller the better - tad different outlook thier , i dont think in tiny places they give a shite if your worth 10 shillings or no shillings its countryfied mentality world over i mean they have to live their too !!-------they are not going to shite in ones own nest are they .
Smaller towns we never to date have i had a worry and in respect to mafia you know you hear of them taking over properties and such yes sure it happens but its got to be worth while to em - they not going to go through all the grief to skim $70 a month outu someone even in corrupt economy its all got to be worthwhile. they do have far bigger fish to fry .( would cost em more in petrol to go hassle you) that what they'd pick up off you .
just not worth thier while !
Buy an apartment its not hard you just have to trust your russian ive bought 2 since january 1999 ive not had a worry but really it is in her name .
i mean just pass her the $$ and send her into the real estate !!
should you chaps like to see deeds mine/ hers i have hear on PC because i know this room is full of doubters il happily send anyone a copy of deeds its not hard .
i bought my last 1 in a dark room cash with 2 yuri's looking on --with 37k usd in my bag ahhhh was i scared ----no just terrified
Mike00
PS no iam not married to my girl iam engaged you dont have to be married to her to purchase one ive proved it twice iam actually leaving 15th january this trip --why? to buy some more land with sweetheart in Rostov we already own some ------just trust her get her to buy it all ----------simple yes .if you cant trust her what are you doing with her in the first place ??hmm !!
To RVRWIND MATE I OWN 11 SKOTE OF LAND IN ROSTOV yes in my loves name cost me a packet but ive got the legals done i cant work out how your finding it hard all very strange mine was all done 21 days - i found it a damn sight less complicated than buying a bush block in Australia .
If there is one thing ive found easy to do in russia its buy apartment and land - still my girl;s old man is a builder i just pass the money i let them work out whom owns what no good worrying about trifle details ay .
Iam not russian but ive purchased 2 apartments And 1 block of 11 skote of land in 7 years just put it in her name so so so simple get a solicitor to protect you again simple as pie ---err they are in the yellow pages under S .
My legals have me covered in many ways -still if she wants it id let her have - who cares ay . ive had my worth out of it ive not paid rent / hotels etc in last 11 trips and i lived in that time 30 months thier.
Most i can lose after a blue 37k ive got a shilling so id not lose any sleep over it ay .

You missed the boat Mikey...The question was how HE could buy land or property, not his Russian Woman. Hell even I know my wife can buy it for me, but I'll tell you right here & now, if it ever goes south, you won't get any of it, she will get it all. You are not a citizen & therefore you have no rights in Russia.
I've been here 3 years & never have I been paranoid as you in Moscow or SPB. My friend Phil has lived in SPB for 4 years & loves it, I visit often. I also have friends I visit in Moscow & never felt out of place one bit, I love the city, just too many damn people for me. I prefer a smaller city of 500,000 or less myself.
I actually picked the best of both worlds as I am in Tver, between Moscow & SPB so I can go to either of them on a whim if I need to do some shopping there or visiting. Works for me, & Tver is much cheaper a place to live than either of the other two.
But like I said, the question was how could HE buy real estate & I correctly answered, HE CANNOT!. His wife can & sure he can be on the paperwork, but thats all he will ever be, is on the paperwork & when it comes to splitsville, she will get it all, 100% guarranteed. Don't like to think that is going to happen but hey, I've said that before & wound up divorced, so me, I'd like to have what I have in my name, not somebody elses,. no matter how much I love her & she loves me!
Mate i think your worring about not nothing i could not see them bothering to cheat a bloke out of humble apartment -------why would they bother ?? western world yes i agree but then whom in sane mind would want to end up with a western boiler anyway???
My view --- my girl gets it -when iam dead and gone = good goes to a person whom deserves yes i hear you completely now but hey ---------iam not a chap short on dollars i look at the 35k/ 45k price rostov even TYVER its peanuts mate to what they would they would clean you out for hear 45kUSD = 1/3rd my income for a year = ho hum lets read the paper instead is how i rate it .
End of the day they can get out of you in russia what you give them ! so so true i can afford to lose 40k usd and wake up next day .
My concern be how hot the coffee is lol lol .---not if id lost 40k assetts after all ive given it i take consequences yes - each in charge own destiny .
She didnt twist my arm up back to buy it.
I buy with my girl / with her parents etc ive never yet had a worry ---matter of fact deals we have done over last 3 years iam 19k in front --if i lost now what i had !!!! hey ive not paid rent in russia for 34 months!!!!! i can lose other half of apartment iam still miles in front .iam in a win win win situation --hey without us -they have a big percentage of zero ----------thats a fact only the westerner has real money in FSU .
rich russian = is somebody with a lada niva car / apartment paid worth 40k and 20k in bank - we can buy and sell em for breakfast .
nobody ever convinvce me different of that = ive lived there to long mate ! nothing wrong with eye sight !seeing is believing !!!
no reason to worry ay.

Where is splitsville? it is not in Russia maybe it is Ukraine. It is not on any Russian map of mine.
Here in England Russians buy many properties they can sell them keep them what ever they want to do, it does not matter that they are foreign citizens.
With regards to the Russian mafia do they have a mafia in Ukraine too? I quite fancy buying or renting a property in crimea but i thought maybe there might be a lot of crime in Crimea.
Is that how crime here got its name?
and Mikeoo is that some sort of aboriginal language that you are speaking because i have difficulty understanding you.
I guess some people can afford to throw money away,I cannot. I'm just a working stiff & far from rich. In fact if you added up everything I own it wouldn't total as much as your willing to throw away. But if your really feeling generous, you can buy us an apartment!!! We'd take good care of it, I promise.
Splitville is Canadian slang for Divorce.
Canada is the same, foriegners are welcome to buy property & invest in their new country. However, Russia is different, they want our money, they just don't want us. Not the regular folks but the government. I have no info on Ukraine, never been there.
BF
Russians can buy property in u.k it is true and many houses in around London are popular choice for the Russian mega rich. The same rules apply to u.k businesses too. A mega rich russian can buy or takeover vitually nearly any business he chooses in Britain but the same rules do not apply if a British person wanted to own a Russian business in Russia-No chance.

Can you explain to me the method of land area measurement they use. I can’t work out their pricing on land. Sometimes they quote x$$ per “sotka” etc.
I am used too prices per hectare or a fixed price for the complete piece of land.
My wife is from Kiev and she owns an apartment there. Would like to look down Crimea or West Ukraine for a small (2-3acres) and do as you are – build.
1 Sotka is 100 sq mtr
In the crima by the coast land is very expensive $20,000 for 1 Sotka, maybe more depending on location
good land near center of Sevastopol sells for about $8,000 per 100 sq meter,
In Small village's way from the coastit far cheaper, but you dont always have Gas or phone line and sometimes the water is out of a well !
Its no problem to buy property in Crimea or anywhere in the Ukraine,
I have several here including the main street,
Thanx Chris
Lena thought that was the measurment !!! Having trouble getting my head around these prices in Ukraine-FSU etc. Makes land here (NZ) look bloody cheap. Take services - security - climate into account and it makes Non-sence of why the demand is there at those $$ levels ???
Will have a look 1st hand this June.
Where is this bloody cheap land in NZ??? I want to buy it:))
Top land in Auckland is $3000/m2
I figure that is $300,000 for 1 Scotka.
Or have I got it all wrong?
Hi Adman
should give any land North of Bombay away for free !!!!!!!!
No - seriously - prices been paid in Ukraine don’t stack up compared to income earning potentials of the average people - and I mean for average properties - not "blue chip"
My wife’s apartment is worth 150K (US$$) Bloody crazy. Rat nests stacked 17 deep with piss smelling stairways and lifts etc. Cigarette buts floating down past your nose as you try and gasp some fresh air from the only bloody window that will open !!!!
But - others obviously think different to me. Perhaps should stay in "Gods Own" with regards to Real Estate investment
Nothing ever stacks up Ukraine,
the more time you spend here the less sence it makes
3 years ago I waas told I must have been crazy to pay $36,000 for a apartment ,
now it would sell for $110,000 !
But the climate here is far better than Kiev, even now the weather is good,
would never mover away from here,
