Completely new to this. But i intend to fly to see a lady in ukraine in February.
Did a search . I have looked for flights from U.K airports to Ukraine. Searched through kelkoo cheapest i have found return is £249. Does any on one know of a cheaper source .I heard somewhere of some regular flyer scheme or something- how does that work?
Checked out aerosvit Birmingham to Kiev but i do not think they operate this regular flyer scheme thing.

i am interested in this as as i will be going to Dnipropetrovsk in the summer. I have looked at the kelkoo site also and a list of lufthansa flights came up-then i noticed the flight duration : 6 and half hours!!!! other flights even longer travelling times. God knows which route they fly to get there. i guess they must fly via africa and 5 stop offs .
i have been to Dnipropetrovsk 18 months ago but the 6 hour wait at Kiev airport was tedious mind numbing and so kiev airport is an airport i would prefer to miss out if possible.
i have located a British Airways flight from Heathrow for £64 pounds each way to Vienna Austria-But as far as i am aware there is no airlines that fly to Dnipropetrovsk from Vienna.I may be wrong of course, maybe some more of you experienced Ukraine flyers will be able to advise or correct me on this matter.
zb,
Austrian Airlines operate Vienna to Dnepropetrovsk but it is cheaper to fly Heathrow-Vienna-Dnepropetrovsk than just from Vienna, but it can be pricey.
Lufthansa dropped the Dnepr route, I'm going on Saturday, my ultimate destination is Zaporozhye but I normally fly to/from Dnepr.
KLM operate from several UK airports and there are 3 flights a day (normally) between Amsterdam and Kiev so you shouldn't have to wait for 6 hours anywhere.
On Saturday I have a 40 minutes connection in Amsterdam and 2.5 hours in Kiev and I'm actually flying to Zaporozhye rather than Dnepr. On the way back I have 2 hours 5 minutes in Kiev (just perfect for a 2 hours check-in) and 1 hour in Amsterdam ... and between Kiev & Amsterdam I'll be flying on a Ukraine International aircraft (hot meal and lots of beer :)
For KLM check out: http://www.klm.com/travel/gb_en/index_default.html
Sorry, didn't make it clear, KLM only operate to Kiev in Ukraine.
To Dnepr only Austrian Airlines (code sharing with Ukraine International) operate daily international services from/via Vienna.
Dniproavia also have international flights to Germany (actual airport(s) served keeps changing0 and Moscow etc, and Turkish Airlines have recently start approx 2 flights a week from/to Istanbul but would need to overnight in Istanbul if travelling from UK.
Lufthansa and Air Baltic did operate internationally to Dnepr but it seems they've dropped their services.
Simplist way is through Kiev. I may be wrong but it may be the cheapest but can be a wait at airport for internal flights. If a long layover, there is a hotel right at airport. I know more about flights out of US. Martin knows about UK flights.
Biggest question is which is more important..price or time...cannot have both.
and therein lies the expensive problem connecting from Vienna to Dnepropetrovsk anything between £300 and £400 according to Austrian airlines site.
I can afford it but i am reluctant if their is a better option.
KLM Birmingham to Kiev is more expensive.
KLM Birmingham to Vienna is cheaper.
Not sure about Aeorsvit from UK -not mentioned on aerosvit site.
Jock,
Do not book VIE-Dnepr with Austrian, book Heathrow-Dnepr (via VIE) with Austrian.
Aerosvit operate from Birmingham but only 2 crappy days per week and at crappy times, all timed to connect with connecting flights from Kiev to Pakistan.
I've recently paid £218.00 return with KLM from Birmingham to Kiev but it helps on price if you plan in advance.
Lufthansa have connections to Kiev via Dusseldorf, Frankfurt & Munich but prices have gone up this year, at the moment anyway.
MALEV Hungarian have some pretty good prices, subject to availability, but their schedules do not suit my connecting flights .
Ukraine International operate from Gatwick 7 days a week or Heathrow on Saturday's, problem is that the return flight to Gatwick departs Kiev at 0900 hours, too early for me to arrive on a connecting flight.
The joy with KLM, and Lufthansa to a lesser degree, is that one can avoid the nightmare of Heathrow and fly from one's local airport. If one takes into account the cost of transport or car parking to/at Heathrow and/or the cost of a hotel it can be worth £50 or more to fly from a regional airport.
martin this information will be helpful thankyou, i will now weigh up my options. my final destination is Krivoy Rog.
with the Austrian airlines London to Vienna to Dnepropetrovsk i have been quoted some prices in £410 plus. i may end up paying this price. Though KLM Birmingham to Kiev looks a good possibility with maybe Taxi or train from Kiev to Krivoy Rog.
But Krivoy Rog, from memory, seems to be in the middle of all airports. Kiev can be half the price to fly to than a regional airport, I'd fly to Kiev and prebook a taxi, someone like Ukrainefare, from Kiev to KR & return.
Austrian airlines economy ticket Birmingham vienna Dnepr looked o.k.
But then i noticed the luggage weight limit. Carry on luggage 8kg. and suitcase limit is 20kg that is really a very small allowance. many people will find their luggage easily over that weights. i can not see mentioned what the excess luggage weight charge is.
that is standard luggage terms usually youcan get away with a few extra kgs, especially hand luggae, but they wont allow nominally one but usually 2 items. Check the excess charges with airline.
But Austrian Airlines do not operate from Birmingham, they operate Heathrow-Vienna or Gatwick-Salzburg.
Many an airline will allow excess baggage if you join their frequent flyer programme, normally the regular airlines will allow a few kg extra, it's just airlines like 'BoredFukkaAir' that charge for the slightest kg over.
Anyone help? i'm trying to find cheaper domestic flights from Kiev to Dnipr, best i have found at present is with Ukraine international, quoting $252 for return flights, but was hoping to shave a bit off of that price...
Wont be much around under £250. Be warned this FSU girl dating lark is very expensive, kiev is very expense, the cost of the flight will be the least of your worries ...
You won't catch me flying with Wizz if I can possibly help it, I was working with (not 'for') Wizz 3 years ago thus I have some inside knowledge regarding their standards of training or rather their lack of them!
