Now for the bad - phone number given me by her "translation agency" Moonlight was WAY wrong (8-06442-624008). The address given me was: 6,8 Lenina Street The emailer is TB! v3.80 Pro, but the different IP addresses throughout the emails (only the last octet changes) all point to the same ISP in Lugansk. I asked the ageny for clarification on the phone number only to get a runaround answer. I sent an email (she's moving?) from a different address asking for her new address and the address of the agency. Some Lugansk's agencies will probably not provide you, with the girl's real address, email or telephone number. If they do, they have lost a customer:) because you'll contact only the girl and exclude the agency. Even if all your questions are answered in the emails, some agencies write most of the emails by them self. Ironic when some girls understand and speak English enough to communicate without an agency or translator:) I wouldn’t worry about TB (I would worry more about the Moonlight Agency and their overpriced services when read Martin's reply). I’ve seen TB myself in computers at agencies in Lugansk, it’s quite common. I'm getting really discouraged on finding someone real with good intentions. I have a Russian friend here in the US and she told me how she hears other Russian women talk about leaving their "stupid American husband" once they have their green card. I know it is impossible to find out someone's true intentions, but do any of you all have any leads on any HONEST individual women or agencies? I guess it's going to be harder for me than most men to find someone. I've 2 kids, a vasectomy, I smoke, and right now I'm not in a financial situation to visit another country. jetmba. Anybody who has done it will tell you it IS expensive. Necause it is. You can buy an address for a few dollars, or a months worth of membership in fiance.com for a little more than that. But THAT is just the start of things. Unless you just want a foreign penpal (most ladies don't really want that) you are going to have to lay out some serious cash to go to the FSU and meet her, then to bring her home. To get a fiance visa you have to visit her and PROVE it. If you can afford to go. You're stuck dead in the water. And even if you can afford to go. That's just the beginning. This whole search thing can be terrific. But there are definite requirements. The cheap part is writing to her. Because once you get her address, email is free (relatively anyhow). Like I said - if you just want a penpal, shouldn't be a problem. Anything more is going to require bucks. There just is no two ways about it. You need to get your finances and family in order and to a level you can launch into something like this before you start. It is extremely demanding financially and is not for those who have heavy committments. So right now, it is not for you. However, if you want to work your way into a position of viability, then my advice is to use that time to learn as much as possible and develop a plan that is viable. These boards are the best way at the moment to get a handle on the bigger picture. Right now, if you situation is as described, it is not for you, but time and circumstances can change things. I got myself into an awful row on another board by suggesting that this was not for everyone, but what does flat broke with a broken heart after 2 years chasing rainbows in the FSU do for anyone? But you do have to be able to put your hands on some cash. As mentioned by an earlier commentor, you do have to meet her face to face, and be able to prove in order to get a visa. Regrettably, flights to the FSU are not like the cheap $99 specials to Disneyland. Figure about $1,000 per trip USD. All the fees associated with a visa will likely cost you in the neighborhood of another $1,000, and then there is the cost of flying her here. Need I say another thousand ? And those are just for starters. This may not be a pleasant reality, but it is reality. Start saving the bucks. Good luck. I'm from Lugansk myself and have been married to American for over 5 years now. We live in UK and I know several more girls who married though our agency and live in UK and even more girls who married though our agency and moved to US. We still keep in touch with the most of them. Yes, for some marriage didn't work, while others are still married, but that statistics could be applied to any marriage international or not. The agency can only help you meet a suitable match and it's in your power to make the marriage work, only you are. Now, I can see mostly men discussing here girls from different places of former USSR, sharing the stories about them being scammed. But none of the men actually say a word about themselves, their age or much of the circumstances...how come? Or do they believe that their nationality is their best trait? Of course scam is a nasty business and a lot of people unfortunately making money on it, but that again, you are only getting what you have asked for. MEN, YOU ARE BEING SO UNREALISTIC IN YOUR SEARCH! Through the agency I deal with different clients who come from all over the world of all ages, and the most common thing I come across is men in the 40s, 50s looking for a girl twice younger...what's up with that? The ladies of such age will never pay attention to them in their country so why do they think it should be any different in Ukraine/Russia...? Ok, 10, 20 years difference became some kind of norm nowadays in this business, but guys, I address all of those of you who are young in their hearts and not so young looking, DO BE REALISTIC! If you are looking for a long- term relationship, consider dating ladies closer to your age, to avoid disappointment or denial of such marriage from parents of these girls younger than yourselves. I know-I know, a lot of you will object, since those young girls contacted you first...but of course they did, or their agency did, but you are a grown up men and should know better. No offence, but do think back through your experience, did you have a lot of young very attractive ladies paying attention to you in your country? I bet most of you will say no (not out load of course), than think what is this young lady after, if she is writing to a man twice her age? Ask her! Yes, ladies in their 20s might be after fun, adventure, experience...but don't be surprised if several years later the lady grow up and leave you. Oh, Gosh, I'm being so hash here...but men, somebody need to shake you! Ok, some words of encouragement. As I have already mentioned, marriages with 10-20 years difference are possible and happening all the time and I should know, I run a dating agency for over 7 years now. There' re a lot of good men in their 40s, 50s and even 60s who contact us and find their true love. Just be realistic in your search, don’t get fixed on the most popular ladies of the agency, do your homework on the agency you are working with and keep your expectations at bay until you actually meet the lady in person. Don't postpone the trip for more than 3-6 months. Be skeptical but open-minded at the same time, do consider meeting ladies suggested by the agency, they might know better. I had so many cases when men will pick a lady from catalogue but won’t like them in person and the other way around. As for the agencies who do not provide men with real contact information of the girls...Run-Run-Run from them. Any reputable agency will gladly provide men with the real contact information of the girls. There's nothing they lose if they are legitimate. Yes, there are Internet cafes in Lugansk, but no, not many girls will want to correspond with men on their own, first because it's expensive to use Internet cafe, and the dating agencies charge women nothing, second security wise. Our agency for example screens ladies as well as men. And never denies men girls true contact information. However since 6th March 2006 US citizens are obliged to comply with IMBRA act. As of January 5, 2006, the President of the United States signed into law the Violence Against Women and the Department of Justice Reauthorization Act of 2005 (H.R. 3402) which contains the International Marriage Broker Regulation Act of 2005 (Subtitle D). We also run men's names through a sex assault database in US. So until you actually meet with the lady, there's no sense for her to drop out of agency. Yes, it is really a good question in this time because all man can publish any lady as a scamer without any real proves! If a man come from abroad to meet a lady and she tells him that she does not want to marry him. Is it mean that she is a scamer? As for me, I think if the lady never ask about money and never promise in her letters to marry him from the first meeting she is not a scamer but some man think so! Why? But may be she is very real lady because she said the truth to the man and she did not want to lay him that she likes him during meeting. A man can publish any lady to the black list and the lady will never proof to any man that she is not so! I know it because we have a lot of such stories in our city... And it is really sad to know that Ukrainian or Russian women do not have any RIGHTS on Internet. Even some antiscamer websites are closed for Ukraine or Russia. So, the lady Even can not write to the administrator of this sites and to explain what was happen in reality!!! A liar or a total idiot can publish a revenge post or an uneducated post on the Internet and ruin a good persons reputation. And you are right Irina if you do not ask for money you are not a scammer. And lets face it some of the guys who come over there even their own mother could not love them. So how do they expect you to. Most men dated several women before they married the first time or are middle aged and have been unable to attract a partner up to this point so why should they think they will be successful with the first woman there. Unless they have bought into the theory that all FSU women are so disparate to leave the FSU that they will grab onto anything that remotely resembles a man. FSU Women - I agree with what both of you ladies said, it's pretty obvious there is a bit of deceptive practives from agencies, men and also women. There are also very honest agencies who have a very credible and well-earned reputation. We once started asking if there should be a site where both men and women could write comments about individuals - from both sides. IMO there aren't as many obvious 'scammers' around asking men for money in correspondences as there once was. I think that only the very uneducated think they want to end up jail with such documented evidence as an email request for money. There are also agency girls who have no serious intentions at marriage and continue to date local Ukraine men while writing men in the hopes of a local shopping excursion. This does happen. Is it a scam? It's borderline... Are there men who will cry scam because he writes for several months, pays to come visit her, spends money and nothing happens? I am sure there are those rare that will do this. Yet, there is probably some fundamental issue there for that to have occurred. A girl should not accept gifts from men she has no intention of marrying. So this lack of judgement on a girl does her own self the biggest injustice - not the man who complains this girl lead him on... This is the serious issue of the dating / courtship phase. I find it deplorable a girl will go shopping and expect something from nothing when she had no interest in the same man buying her gifts. In my case, I once encountered a girl who admitted every single letter she wrote me was a lie and pretty much a ploy just to lure me to visit her. Was she a scammer? Not by the typical definition of a scammer who asks for money. Was she a sociopath with little morals? Yes. She was removed from the original site only because she had lied to their management regarding reasons why a meeting went bad, she actually accused me of demanding sex. So they kicked her. I don't label her a scammer, those are easy to deal with. I met other girls who were incredibly sincere, so please do not think I feel all FSU women are bad. There are fantastic girls in the FSU. And a man must be able to financially support them to live here. Men who are sex-tourists posing as sincere marriage-minded men?
