Since joining the Fiance.com website, without a doubt, the largest number of unsolicited emails I have received have come from women in Moldova. It probably isn't surprising given that Moldova is the poorest country in all of Europe. This got me a little bit curious. I took the liberty of downloading the entire finace.com website (with some nice software I have) before I left on a business trip to Honolulu. With the entire fiance.com website on my laptop, during the ridiculously long flight from Honolulu to Boston, I was able to reverse engineer their database. Now it is as simple as building queries for purposes of statistically analyzing the women of the former FSU. .... ROFLMAO
So who are these women from Moldova anyhow ?
Well, statistically speaking ..... they are an average of 34.1 years of age. The median age is 33. 65.3% of all the women from Moldova are between the age of 25.4 and 42.8. 87.8% are between 21.0 and 47.2, and 96.4% are between 19.0 and 51.6.
The women of Moldova will hate me tomorrow ....... tomorrow's edition ...... "Moldovian Women: Height and Weight"
In the meantime, I'm hoping you'll post all the questions you think ought to be worth answering.
Harantis,
in my humble opinion, your statistics - as is now - is very impressive and totally useless at the same time. I think it's hard to answer real questions with such a kind of analysis. However, one obvious question can be: are these data significantly different from those of women from other countries? I don't know what the answer to this question would mean in practical terms, though. You can also try to analyze height, weight... may be a good idea to to kill the time on your next trip to Honolulu? :-)
P.S Can a Gaussian distribution accurately fit your data?
You're ..... STARTING ..... to get the idea. KNOW THY AUDIENCE !!! Do you think General Motors wants to know the weight of the average bloke driving one of their cars ??? How much are television networks willing to pay to find out who is watching their show ? If they knew that, they could develop the ideal marketing campaign.
We all know women in the US lie about their weight, but what if I told you that the smoking rate among women on Finance.oom in Moldova was 6%, but in the general population in Moldova the smoking rate was 38% ? If only 6% of the women on the site smoke, and 38% of the women in Moldova smoke, the male smoking rate would have to exceed 70% ... or, the finance.com population of women is not relective of Moldovian society as a whole. All questions interesting to ponder.
what a stupid statistic. of course 96% are going to be between 19 and 51. It would be that everywhere. You didnt give the statistic for 18-25 age range. which would have been more helpful to us, although you gave the 25-42 age range, which is just over half of all the women there. what about narrowing down your age ranges, like 25-35 for example, so we have a better idea of who will be passing us in the street.
boredfukka,
I think your comments make sense and could help in improving the meaningfulness of such analyses.
Harantis,
I think that many Moldavian (not only Moldavian) women just lie in their profiles about their non-smoking habits, as well as about their not having children. Anyway, yes, I agree that some interesting analysis could be done with your tools, provided the original data (in the profiles) are reliable.
On the other hand, you don't want to "sell" yourself to as many women as possible, do you? I think you want to find THE ONE who is ok for you. So, the "philosophy" is completely different in my opinion.
In statistics, the Gaussian distribution is also called normal distribution. Wikipedia is the quickest way I can recommend to know more about it.
Gotta say I quite like the statistical approach......36-24-36. Now there's a stat worth recording. As for anaylising that stat, I sure as hell don't need SOFTWARE for that, much prefer to use the hardware. :-)
I well understand that my intrigue with the database I was able to create from all 17,020 women on the Fiance.com website could with some reason cause some to accuse me of being entirely too analytical, clinical and dispassioned about pursuit of a wife. Some would argue that you can't reduce love to statistics. Hog Wash ! Over 50% of all marriages in the US end in divorce. The divorce rate in the minority communities in the US is over 70%. Try those loves statistics out on your bank account gentlemen !
I have been doing business deal after business deal for most of the last 30 years. I've made good deals and I've made some bad deals. In the hours I've spent licking my wounds over the bad deals, trying to diagnose the exact point where I made my mistake, I have come to one conclusion I believe to be undeniably true: I never made a bad deal because I was too smart. I've made them because I was too dumb, but never because I was too smart. I have even made bad deals in spite of the fact that I was smart, largely because I chose to ignore something relevent, or didn't recognize the importance of some information I already had at my disposal.
In this arena, I'm not exactly sure what information about these women I wouldn't want to know. Are there things about these women, society or culture from whenst they come that I'm better off not knowing ? I think not. I'm convinced that I am better off erring on the side of too much knowledge than too little.
I'm not exactly sure what really useful knowledge might be gleened from this reverse engineered database, which is why I posed the question, "What useful queries could be formed."
Yes, I understood that the example I gave was overly simplistic and not of much use to anyone. It was simply put out there as an example to get folks thinking. It is painfully obvious to even the most casual of observers, that without much thought, the notion of trying to develop a greater understanding of the women to whom we each are writing, through statistics, has been summarily dismissed. After reading many of the posts on this forum, I can see that many of us are far more concerned about saving $40 on a train trip from Moscow to St. Pete, than we are about loosing half our bank account in a divorce five years from now. Perhaps I should be giving greater recognition to the fact that there are apparently more bank accounts with $79 balances than I might have imagined.
To those who choose to summarily dismiss the value of this exercise I can only suggest that knowledge is King. Lady luck is merely Queen.
I hated statistics when I was in school. I commend you for looking at finding love in a different way. There are no good or bad ways of looking at something. Though I found my wife the old fashioned way, through letter writing and visits I don't see anything wrong with your approach as long as it works for you.
Trying to find love on the internet is a new ( but getting rather dated ) spin on a very old idea.
In days of old before the internet was invented, people joined "introduction agencies" or "marriage or match maker agencies", were matched up in an office and sent on dates or looked in personal columns of the newspapers to find there match.
Todays difference is, its quicker and more easy to be had and screwed over on the internet.
My first foreign wife was found using the old way as there was no internet in 89.
It can work in small cases, but for most will find disappointment.
Don't expect much from this or have high expectations...be realistic, practical and careful with the internet.
We could go back to the real old days and have your parents choose for you.
Would you be happy then Aussie? You can still blame your parents if it all goes wrong.
well i can only say 1 thing i married a beautiful moldovian woman last year and im having the time of my life what modch is true and ill say no more .... hammer
I found a beautiful woman from Chisinau, working in Switzerland. We know each other now for about 1 year. I spent 3 - 4 weeks with her during this time.
She is interesting. She has good family values. Her work is Cabaret dancing. She has very high tastes. But says she has no money.
I like her and want to help her. But I am pushing her to be more open and honest with me. I read alot of the posts on this site. I think there is some unfilled needs perhaps with the woman from these poorer countries. They shoot for the top in terms of money and quality. But I think deep down if you level with them, they can be reasonable. They are aggressive and will try......but you need to work with them and educate them to better understand money, how to invest, save and live a bit for the future.
I am no expert....I am baffled every day. But continue to try. She has a good heart, even if she can be a pain in the ass sometimes.
Hi,
I wish you good luck for future.
I am afraid she will later NEVER get a Schengen Visa as she is filed as 'Night Club' worker. Other typical Movavian work outside Moldova: "cleaining " woman. The real work : "prostitution" I am afraid.
Yes Moldavian girls are gentle, loving and caring, devoted. Their live is not to easy but I live here and see some reality of advertising here in Chisinau: WORK + VISA in USA, in CANADA, in GREAT BRITAIN, in CYPRUS, in Dubai ....... Guess wich jobs: cleaning, room girls in hotel and the Hight Club Dancers.
Salary? 800$ but from that they have to start paying ........ So really they have 300-400$
Better to stay here and "work" and have family.
I am also married to a lovely Moldavian woman and I came to live here for now, later maybe we can move.
