Since the movie rags the "Glorious Nation of Kazakhtan" ..... the #1 exported of Potassium !!!!! ..... and has been heavily criticized in official FSU circles ..... I would be remiss in not mentioning it. I wonder what folks have to say ?
Of course it was sarcastic, disgusting (in some scenes), irreverant and sophomoric. And of course it doesn't really depict life in any of the former Soviet countries that I have ever been to (of course I've never been to any of the Asian countries).
But I liked it. And I especially liked the way that he made fools of patronizing Americans.
Movie had some anti-American political humor, such as "U, S and A", "home of the mighty warlord, Premier Bush", "We support your war of terror", "in case the Jews repeat their attacks of 9/11", and contained an Arabic song.
It contained a lot of antiJewish humor is even more suprising when you consider the fact that Sasha Baron Cohen is Jewish.
He plays a character in the movie, who happens to be Muslim and from a very different culture. Its not who he really is.
Another character Cohen portrays in his work is Ali G. who is an English black rapper. You might be surprised to discover that he isn't actually black when he does that either.
I thought that film Borat started off as athiest and became Christian after his American evangelical experience. His sister name was Natasha/ Natalia (the same). Kazakhestan is half Muslim and half Christian. Muslim demographics (over 1%) for Europe, most to least, are:
Albania 70%
Bosnia 60%
Macedonia 30%
Russia 19%
Serbia & Montenegro 19%
France 10%
Netherlands 5.4%
Germany 3.7%
Belgium 3.6%
Leichtenstein 3.4%
Switzerland 3.1%
Sweden 3.1%
Croatia 3%
Denmark 3%
UK 2.7%
Italy 2.4%
Austria 2.2%
Slovenia 1.6%
Spain 1.2%
Malta 1.1%
Luxembourg 1.1%
Norway 1%
Romania 1%
I've omitted the country of 12.2% that I'm moving to.
Indeed. It did mock Americans at times. Some folks these days make a determination as to whether it is humor based upon who's ox is being gored. To me, an ox is an ox. It'll be yours today and mine tomorrow.

Borat is available from most of the download sites.
Look here; www.isohunt.com/stats.php?mode=zg You will need a program like azureus to manage the download; http://azureus.sourceforge.net/download.php
I liked the movie also. I have no trouble with humour directed at anybody in particular.
Funny is funny. I don't take things personaly and hope no one does either for there is no
right and wrong, only everyone's individual ways.
Masha28,
hi there!! back from your sabbatical are you!!! :)))
nice to hear from you!!!
Masha,
It is very good you are back!!!!! We missed your insights!
You know you are my favorite Russian girl!! This other one was just a fill in. :))
Let me know how you have been doing. You can reach me at alberts18@sbcglobal.net.
Take care and don't disappear now!!
Were you able to download movie??
No, not yet. I have limited internet traffic per month, and I don't have enough left at the moment to download a whole movie. I'll try to do it next month.
Yeah, yeah, I know I'm your favorite Russian girl, I've never had a single doubt about it:))
I have one insight, which might be interesting for this forum. I might create a new topic about it here. I havent made up my mind yet.
Amir, why don't you move to Albania or Croatia, hell it would fit the bill better for you. Why only 12.2%. Hey Maybe Chechneya would be perfect for you. Then again, if Putin found you he might pack your ass on a train like he's doing to Georgians now. Where's your outrage there? Yep we're the most oppressive country on earth. Can I help you pack your bags?
Every American should consider a move because the American economy depends on (a) cheap oil, (b) low taxes and (c) low interest rates, and it cannot sustain any of the a, b and c much longer.
(a) American economy is heavily dependent on oil; and therefore, the cheaper the oil, the better. Oil is becoming scarce and Iraq war isn't going the way America had hoped for, with Iran threatening their mideast goals. Currently 7% of the federal spending is going to Iraq and Afghanistan.
(b) The federal debt is at $8.836 trillion, piling at an average of $2 billion daily. Taxes will have to be hiked just to keep up with spending, if not to repay the debt.
(c) The harder it becomes to finance the federal debt, the more the treasury bill rates will have to be hiked to attract the investors. Treasury rates hikes raise the general interest rates within America, thereby slowing the economy.
Why do you think America is suddenly talking peace?
I enjoy reading your posts as you have a very realistic outlook on things and remain rather pragmatic about those issues I have seen you post comments on. I also appreciate your "different" perspective on things. Most who post here have only the male perspective. Your side is quite enlightening. I thank you for your comments. Just out of curiosity, are you the Masha who likes Claude Monet?
You've checked out my profile have you? :) Yeah, that's me.
Thank you for your good words about my posts. I'm very glad somebody here finds them of interest.
