Well second trip to FSU did not turn out as planned, do they ever?? Used Kiev as my base. Flew to St Pete's
for a few days. Cold as hell(in freezer). Plan A did not work out, Plan B was not available, Plan C was to see the sights, the many sights:). Plan D was dropped due to girl expecting to meet while I pay for cab ride, flowers, dinner, agency, cab ride back home.....$200.. for the pleasure of her company. Maybe if she was Plan A. Nothing interesting enough in agencies booklets. Stayed at mini-hotel, Northern Lights, great rates, near St Isaacs and free breakfast, invitation letter and registration. All girl staff speak English and made me feel at home.
Kiev was much better. No kiss and tell but I did meet Plan A. My apt got changed at last minute and agency phone number was not good so I had a get on internet to get a hold of girl through her agency. Took a couple days. My mistake was not calling ahead to make sure number is good. Also, would have been nice to have a local cell phone number. Apt phones don't have answering machines, you miss calls if you are out. Enjoyed walking city center and meet with a friend. At a local coffee shop, found out how important is to know the language. Pretty young waitress giving the eye and smile(if you know what I mean), spoke very little English. Perfect opportunity for someone that knew her language to ask her out. Goota learn the language.
Next was Simferopol. Meet with a nice girl. Took me to see the seacoast. Sevastapol and Yalta. Spent some time at harbor in Sevastapol. At Yalta, got there at sunset, very romantic...strolled the boardwalk by the beach and water. Small town, out of season so boardwalk was not packed. I think the perfect place for a romantic weekend :)) Spent rest of time walking the streets of Simferopol, not much else to do there.
My advice....hope for the best expect the worst. Letter writing only goes so far...got to meet the girls to find out if there is anything. Cost of 13 day trip...airfare and lodging-$2065...spent on incidentals-$590......
interacting with the local girls-priceless.
Good report beemer,
Promissing to hear the main event in Kiev showing up. How did she feel about you swanning off to St Pete and Simferopol with out her?
I hear you about the language, it would make a good edge. But not so easy to learn.
Thanks for your report. I'd like to hear more details.
But on the whole, your report is not speaking well of the FSU women for whom you dropped $2,000 to see. At that price, it seems an awfully long distance to travel for a blind date.
Hindsight is 20/20. My trips to FSU is not only to meet girls but to get to know the culture and people. Just because I don't hook up with girls does not take away from the experiences. After writing to some girls for over 8 months, you have to find out whether it is or it ain't. I don't do blind dates...all my girls can see perfectly!!
Curious about pics of girls, they don't ever look like them....most look not as good others look better.
What details???.....whether we did or we didn't......okay yes we did.....we went to dinner
I'm traveling to St Pete in July to meet a young lady I've been corresponding with since November 2006. My female cousin in St Pete set us (or me -- time will tell) up.
Is the Northern Light hotel close to the city center? Would you stay there again? What was your overall impression of St Pete?
The young lady I'm meeting has already suggested that I learn Russian. Actually, she was asking me why I don't already speak Russian.
How you doing? Long time no speak! I hear it is hot and humid in July. Does she live near the city center?
I would definately recommend Northern Lights. Especially, if first time there. Hotels are more helpful for you.
In Apts, you are on your own for everything. No one around to ask questions. Hotel is 2 blocks from Nevsky Prospekt
and Hermitage, half block from St Isaccs. Not far to Neva River. Hotel is 5 rooms and on only one floor, so office is close to rooms, somtimes you hear phones and talking. If you plan to have a girl stay with you an apt is easier.
There is much to see and do in St Pete's, been there twice and still not close to seeing everything. I love historical things and the city is filled with that. And of course those beautiful ladies strutting down the street
in those high heeled boots and tight pants or short skirts.......
Forget about learning Russian, you don't have enough time...maybe learn a few words or sentences to impress your girl. Well if I talked to someone whose name is 'To Moscow", I would have thought you knew Russian.
Thanks for the info. The Russian girls I know told me to stay away from Ukie girls -- too much Gypsy blood.
As for myself, I'm trying to hang in there. The girl I've been corresponding with is only 26 (I'm 44). She said my age is not an issue, but I can't seem to gauge her seriousness and enthusiam. So I've asked my cousin to find me a "Plan B." But my cousin's mother said the girl is perfect for me.
"To Moscow!" was the slogan of the White Army. My parents compelled me to study Russian when I was a kid -- I guess for the White Army's triumphant "return" to Russia. But you know how it is. We Americans are just not bilingual. Fwiw, I do remember the Cyrillic though and can transliterate.
I don't want her staying with me. I'd like to check out the eye candy as well as the city without having her there 24/7.
I really could care less whether you got your pee-pee wet. I could honestly care less if it fell off.
It just occurred to me that 10 days in St. Pete and Ukraine would merit more than 10 sentences; an average of about a sentence per day. Pardon me for asking such a stupid question.
mosco
"stay away from Ukie girls -- too much Gypsy blood"??? - Well that is a new one i have not heard that before about Ukrainians.
with regards to their seriousness and enthusiam this seems have been the response i got from the ladies i met up with Kharkov last year. i do not think they do really warm up or show enthusiam until they see the size of a mans wallet.
It was total of 13 days. So I guess I'm well short of one sentence per day. I have a short term memory loss thing going so hopefully everything will come back to me soon.
Okay,.....if I had to pick from the girls I've meet between the 2 countries...the ukraine girls seem to be more socialable. I don't why but in St pete's there seems to be an abundance of girls everywhere you look but all seem to be going somewhere....I tried following them but I always got distracted by another. I was like a chicken with the head cutoff, going 5 directions at one time.
Moscow,
maybe your cousins Mom should find out more info on girls intentions.
darrenio,
That's typical of Gypsies. In Moscow or elsewhere in Russia, Gypsy children will follow you around begging for money. If you give one a quarter, they'll ask for a dollar.
beemer,
My cousin's mom has a good track record: she set up two of my brothers. But my brother's wives are country girls. My girl is a city girl. That's why I want a Plan B. Besides, like you, I want to see and experience St Pete.
