I'm visiting my lady for the first time in September, and she will be meeting me at the airport in Kazan. My connection is through Sheremetyevo (SVO) in Moscow. I've been reading a little information about the airport, and it seems as if I will have to take a shuttle between Sheremetyevo-2 and Sheremetyevo-1. Aeroflot's web site indicates they have a shuttle service for this. (I am coming in and going out on Aeroflot.)
As someone who knows no Russian (only a few bits of Spanish) and hasn't done international travel in over 15 years, can anyone who's made this transition through Sheremetyevo give any pointers? Are the shuttles and correct stop easy enough to find? Also, I have a 2 1/2 hour layover, but I have to get through customs too. Will this be enough time to make my connection? Any pitfalls I should watch for?
Any info on arriving in Kazan would help too. She'll be meeting me at the airport, is it going to be cramped and hard to spot her, etc?
I can give you current and accurate info on this shuttle. I just had experience with it in the past 2 weeks. Traveling into SVO2 after you clear all passport and immigration, continue into main terminal and out into the pick-up area. The bus will pick you up there. There is an aeroflot office inside the lobby and they can give you additional info on what to look for. Pay very close attention to which bus you are on. Take a photo of it if necessary. This will be the bus to look for when you come back through SVO on your return. Asshole Yuri bus driver lied to me at SVO1 when I returned and said his bus was not the correct bus and I took other transportation to SVO1 only to see his grinning mug when I got to SVO2. I don't know why he did this other than I did not offer him any money for the info. I have maps that show where to catch the buses at both terminals and will send to anyone who wants them. PM me for the file.
Ulmo,
I don't know of buses navarreman is talking about. I was too busy trying to catch connecting flights to not pay
much attention. I wonder if his girl was there to point out to him. I used taxi's both ways because of time constaints. I missed one flight and barely made second. First was 1 1/2 hours between flights, to go through customs, pick up luggage and go to domestic terminal(1), never made it wasn't even close. Baggage took more than an hour. Second back to intl terminal(2)had 1hour and 40 minutes. Taxi was late so I had to hustle. Some guys there tried to charge $150 to take me over, crooks! In SVO2, hard to read Russian in terminal and had 2 directions to go, left or right. I stopped to ask many people which way for my flight, as usual hardly any english spoken. When I finally found where to go, there was a line to check in with 40 people in it. That was my last time in Moscow, all my flights,if possible, go from Kiev.
Your 2 1/2 layover may not be a 'layover' but a race to make flight. Prearranged taxi's are $45 each way. If you can find bus okay, much cheaper. I paid extra to try to make my flights.
Navarreman, what did you pay to get from SVO1 - SVO2, arm and a leg?
Taxi ride $20. Shuttle free for Aeroflot connecting flights from or to international destinations. Time is everything. I am sure I would not have made it in under 2 hours. I used Moscow because that is where Delta flies into. Little choice for me. I know better for next time.
Navarreman,
God you got a cheap fare!!!! When I was there all taxi's were around $50-$60, of course it was night and time WAS of essense. I love the airport in Kiev, easy in, easy out!!
