Just attended a tour (April) in Donetsk (and Mariupol) put on by AFA. I was VERY happy. Some of the guys who took the full tour weren't real happy. Kind of shoddy support service they said. But the Romance socials themselves. I rate VERY HIGHLY. Worth easily three times what I paid for them.
Romance socials are an expensive form of speed dating, for the few it might work but for most men, it will be an expensive no result.
Without a history of correspondence with a FSU girl before you meet her and then the personal meeting itself, the romance social meeting would be considered insufficient evidence of relationship, for Australian, U.K OR U.S.A immigration when it comes to applying for a fiance visa.
I know Australian immigration want to see a history of letters before the personal meeting, evidence of over seas phone calls to her, evidence of your personal meeting with photos of you and her together, statements from your and her families attesting to your relationship etc. before they will consider granting a fiance visa.
U.S and U.K are similar in there immigration approach and fiance visa applications.
I don't think a statement of how you meet her, "I meet her at a romance social and talked to her for 10 minutes" will make the grade, for a successful fiance visa application.
Its up to you and her to "provide the burden of proof that a relationship exists with intent to marry in the future in your country" when it comes to getting a fiance visa and you need a lot of real evidence.
And yes, I have done this once before, immigrating my first foreign wife so I know how it all works and I was careful and documented all my evidence thoroughly for a fiance visa application and she got it no problems...you just gotta follow the rules, the way the Government sets them out in your country for fiance visas.
Don't know if it is scam or not but this is my story. Looked through site for girls I was interested in. Purchased credits to send a letter to girl and pics(letter is one price and each pic costs. Next day I got back response letter from girl and 4 pics( pay to open letter and PAY for each pic). Next day girl left site. Coincidence or not I am still trying to get my money back, never deal with them again. Very hard trying to get a hold of anyone but seem to always get an e-mail announcing their romance social
"I don't think a statement of how you meet her, "I meet her at a romance social and talked to her for 10 minutes" will make the grade, for a successful fiance visa application."
???
It wouldn't make the grade for a successful fiance visa application from ANY country - and anyone would be an idiot to claim that or, indeed, to DO that.
Your argument is the strawman variety.
Regarding the girl I met at the Romance Social, I spent five hours with her the first night. And between five and ten each of the next four dates, though I must admit - I didn't actually fill out a time sheet or punch a clock (I hope your Austrailian law doesn't require a time card).
I will further go back and see her for a couple of weeks in Aigust, before ultimately continuing the paperwork (which we will start before then only in anticipation) and bring her over on a fiance visa.

It amazes me that the one trip wonders think just by showing up will be successful. I will only comment on US immigration, but it's really not all that difficult. I would advise making more than a couple of trips to your ladys country. It really gives you a background on how your future adjustment will be.
My concern was my wife was from a relatively large city and I live in a small rural community. After being with her and seeing her commitment to our relationship, it subsided a bit. I still was a little concerned. The amazing thing we haven't had any difficulties at all with the exception, she's still not used to our medical system. My land which was typical country style, now is a landscaped floral show place. The adaptability of these women to make the best of any situation amazes me, along with her positive attitude on life. She inspires me daily and that is an incredible feeling to wake up to each morning.
Your I129 will not ask you how you met, just proof of evidence that you have met and in her country. When people ask how we met, I say, I picked her out of a catalogue and 2 years later DHL shipped her to me and the freight charge was about 18 grand.
Guys who comment about another countrys immigration policies need to learn theirs first. Aussieman is totally inaccurate in his comment that meeting a girl at a romance social wouldn't qualify. Let's say for the sake of arguement you just went to Kiev to see the city and in passing you met the most incredible woman in the world. Would not having previous correspondence disqualify you from getting her a visa? Absolutely not. At least not in the States it woudln't.
What it boils down too is some just don't like romance socials, so they will take a disingenuous shot at them. Whether you like them or not, meeting and correspondence is the only real criteria, not how you met. You don't have to send hundreds of letters to the USCIS to prove your relationship. A couple of letters and a list of your phone calls, that's why I used Tel3 over calling cards, because it documents the time and date of your calls on the billing statement for each month, just like your home telephone bill. Two letters and one monthly statement is all I sent in with my I129 for our visa, not this litany of proof.
Gentleman, the visa process is not that difficult as long as your honest and have your i's dotted and t's crossed. Not one time in our process was I ever asked for a request for additional information.
I appreciate your comments and I understand how some simply don't like Romance Socials. There are three possible outcomes, actually, for our meeting in August. We might a.) Decide that we are truly not right for each other. b.) decide to continue with the fiance visa application and bring her over as soon as possible; or c.) (which is not really mentioned in my previous post but a distinct possibility) that we might continue the relationship, without pressing too fast for a fiance visa. Any of these possibilities may occur.
I have applied for and received a fiance visa in the past, and it was based on a girl I met at a Romance Social. We sent pictures of ourselves at various meetings, including some with her mother. Since we sent very few letters, through email or in any other way, there wasn't much evidence there. I sent a copy of my account activity from the company from which I purchased phone cards. They didn't really specify who I had called, but there were many, many purchased. We sent letters of intent, signed by both of us indicating our willingness to marry within 90 days. And I sent some various written (romantic) accounts of our meetings and how we knew that we were right for each other.
Evidently the information I sent in was sufficient as we received the fiance visa - with no further RFIs (requests for information). Just as you mention above that you were not either.
This immigration process – I feel (NZ experience) they put as many obstacles and testing goals for you to achieve/conquer.
Seems pedantic and is totally frustrating – BUT – it weeds out the fly by nighters immediately. It scares the ones off that haven’t really got their hearts in it – so to speak !!!!
For the immigration service – it’s a process of elimination in a way – put up these hurdles and obstacles and it will self regulate – to a degree
What you think – make any sense ????
As I have said b4 – I got on good with our Immigration manager (in fact, also the man b4 her I meet in Wellington – he was just back from his 3 years stint as manager Moscow Embassy) they both let me in on a few of the does and don’ts.
To them it was a mere processes of eliminating the weak from the strong.
Monada, I come from the western part of Melbourne, city of almost 4 million people and kangaroos don't hop down the steets in the city and the two tallest buidings are 85 storeys and 65 storeys and many 40 or more..from the big smoke.
They are a legit agency. I live within driving distance of their office and I have used them for tours a couple of times. Unfortunately they charge an arm and a leg for letters! The only complaints I have is one time they gave me bad information which costs me $$$ and I also had a bad experience with a lady in Russia(gold digger)but they would not remove her profile.
To get back to the original theme of this thread...
For a long time I've thought of AFA as a reputable and legitimate agency, but recent events have caused me to rethink. In the old days you could become a Platinum member, and receive full contact details of up to 100 ladies each month. Now, as a Platinum member, you can still write to up to 100 ladies a month, but to their 'virtual' email address, which means your emails go through AFA's email forwarding system. The interested ladies can then respond directly from their personal email addresses. The alternative, if a lady doesn't have an email address, is to use AFA's 'Express Email' service, which costs $7.49 per letter sent and received (up to 3000 characters, more for longer letters), plus $3.50 for each photo sent and received. The costs are higher if you're not a Platinum member.
I recently wrote to 23 ladies using the Virtual Email system (included in the Platinum membership), and 13 using Express Email (on a 'pay-per-letter' basis). The response ratios were disturbing. I got only one reply out of the 23 (and I know my letters were received, because AFA writes to confirm this), but a whopping 11 replies out of the 13, and most of them sent several photos! Out of the 11 replies, only a few seemed genuinely interested in me (i.e. asked pertinent questions, commented on specific points in my letter, etc.). I can rationalise this disproportionate ratio by telling myself that probably a lot more men write to women with personal email addresses, but one of the 11 women told me that her local office instructs women to reply to all men who write to them. So I'm wondering if AFA is using the recent change in law regarding divulging ladies' contact details to make a lot more money. I've already spent hundreds of $$ in the last couple of weeks, on top of my Platinum membership.
Of course I'm only looking for one, special woman with whom to pursue a serious relationship, and I sincerely hope and believe I've found her (she seems very genuine and sincere), but the disproportionate response ratio, and the high and escalating costs of corresponding with women through Express Email, makes me justifiably (I think) skeptical. I can't help wondering if AFA is still the reputable agency it once was...
I have used AFA over the past few years and I have mixed feelings. I did their tours, attended their socials and used their apartment service. Yes everything was legitimate but the cost was disproportioned with the quality of the girls in their network. Most of the girls in their socials were prostitutes especially in Nikolaev. Lots of trash in Kiev with very few decent girls. Odessa does not need any comment as it is reputable for working girls.
I now have an issue with their implementation of the new IMBRA rules. They would not arrange for any meetings outside of Kiev without a special membership costing hundreds of dollars. There is no way you can pick someone from their catalogs and arrange for a meeting without the special service. Even then there is no guarantee you would meet a particular girl. What I found out during my last trip to Ukraine is that they shared their data bases with other local agencies in many cities. This means that you would find the same girl listed on many sites and you would have no way of meeting her unless you contact her agency directly! This would make it practically impossible to meet someone you like. I can't imagine some of you guys actually using the virtual email service which crosses several agencies and have any luck meeting someone you like. Save your money and go meet the girls on your own. If you can't score by yourself you would have a real hard time with such a complicated system. As was said before, AFA is taking full advantage of new laws to make lots of money.
can you meet someone. sure. it can happen. Some sincere girls DO go there.
I think some cities are better than others.
probably the ones that don't have socials every other month are your best bet.
some strange things though.
i was in kherson trying to arrange a date with a girl from kherson.
they told me her agency was in odessa and i couldn't arrange a date with her unless i went to odessa fist. the wife of the president of afa told me this. true story.
draw your own conclusions but sadly it seems to me that they are coming more and more like anastasia every day. even kherson, nikolaev, and odessa photos are on both sites.
I can also give my experience:
Everything is not that awful in Ukraine as you write! Why then you still continue chatting with Ukrainian girls if they are so bad and all cheaters? I was in Ukraine and not once and heard all that stories you write here. Yes, there are cheaters in some agencies but the majority is really looking for a husband, for a loving man and happy family. The girls I met there (friends of my fiancée) were very kind, spoke good English, some even German, they were very polite and were very happy for their friend. In every country there are good and bad people. Everything depends on your luck. Next time be more careful and attentive and think twice before coming. Spend more time chatting, learning each other. Exchange photos and videos. Examine the person, her inner nature but not only her body! And when you become sure about your trip to Ukraine – come and see everything with your own eyes. The way the Ukrainians live, enjoy life.
Speaking about taxi cheaters or restaurant checks I can say that when you are attentive no one will cheat you. Besides my girlfriend was with me all the time and no one could cheat me.
GENTLEMAN: LET ME START BY SAYING I HAVE FREQUENTED THIS WEBSITE FOR SEVERAL YEARS READING ALOT AND POSTING LITTLE. I HAVE BEEN AMUSED AND ENLIGHTENED READING THE COMMENTS BY MANY OF YOU.
MY ODESSEY STARTED SEVERAL YEAR AGO. I HAVE BEEN TO VORONEZH,RUSSIA ,ODESSA, NICOLAEV, YALTA AND POLTAVA IN UKRAINE AND RIGA,LATVIA. I BELIEVE I HAVE EARNED MY STREET CREDENTIALS. MY INITIAL TRIP TO UKRAINE WAS WITH AFA. I MET A GIRL FROM NICOLAEV AND STARTED A RELATIONSHIP. SEVERAL TRIPS TO UKRAINE AND ABOUT 10 THOUSAND DOLLARS LATER SHE DECIDED THAT SINCE HER 8 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER DID NOT CARE FOR ME ALL OF A SUDDEN THAT IT WOULD NOT WORK BETWEEN US. MY THOUGHT WAS THAT THE DAUGHTER WAS JEALOUS OF SOMEONE COMING BETWEEN THEM (ME).
MY UNDOING WAS WHEN I MET A WOMAN FROM ODESSA. I CANNOT GET INTO ALL THE SPECIFICS BUT I THOUGHT I DID EVERYTHING RIGHT. I MADE TWO TRIPS TO ODESSA AND FILED FOR A FIANCEE VISA. I BROUGHT THE LADY TO THE US AND WE WERE MARRIED IN LAS VEGAS ON 6/7/2005 EVERYTHING WENT WELL FOR 1.5 YEARS. SHE DID HAVE SOME ADJUSTMENT ISSUES BUT I DID MY VERY BEST TO MAKE HER HAPPY. I BOUGHT HER A NEW CAR, CLOTHES, JEWELRY..THE WHOLE CHA CHA. ONE DAY I CAME HOME FROM WORK AND SHE HAD TAKEN OFF WITH THE CAR AND HER CLOTHES. 2 DAYS LATER I WAS SEVED WITH A RESTRAINING ORDER AND THEN THE FUN BEGAN. OF COURSE I HAD TO HIRE AN ATTORNEY TO PROTECT MYSELF AND..... GET THIS...I HAD TO PAY FOR HER ATTORNEY AND LEGAL FEES ALSO. NEEDLESS TO SAY THE LAST YEAR WAS A NIGHTMARE OF EPIC PORPORTIONS. SHE WENT AFTER ALL THE MONEY SHE COULD GET. I HAD TO PAY HER 2K AMONTH TO SUPPORT HER ASS FOR 10 MONTHS. IF IT WAS NOT FOR MY SKILLED ATTORNEY AND THE FACT SHE DID NOT SHOW UP FOR THE FINAL COURT APPEARANCE SHE WOULD PROBABLY HAVE GOTTEN A PORTION OF MY RETIREMENT. THIS HAS BEEN A VERY COSTLY EXPERIENCE AND A BITTER PILL TO SWALLOW. I HAVE BEEN ACCUSED OF BEING A WIFE BEATER. MY EX EVEN SAID I TRIED TO POISON HER. SHE WENT THROUGH 2 ATTORNEYS. I SUSPECT THAT SHE WAS COACHED AND PUT UP TO ALL OF THIS BY ELEMENTS OF THE RUSSIAN COMMUNITY LIVING IN LOS ANGELES. SHE SPOKE LITTLE ENGLISH AND DID NOT HAVE THE WHEREWITHAL TO FORMULATE A PLAN LIKE THIS. I KNOW YOU GENTLEMAN MUST HAVE MANY QUESTIONS AND I WILL BE HAPPY TO ANSWER ANY SPECIFIC QUESTIONS YOU MAY HAVE. I HAVE OMITTED MANY IMPORTANT DETAILS FOR THE SAKE OF BREVITY BUT I AM SURE YOU GET MY DRIFT. BEWARE!!! THESE WOMEN ARE CLEVER AND DEVIOUS. I KNOW SOME OF YOU THINK I HAVE ROCKS IN MY HEAD. I KNOW SOME OF YOU ARE MARRIED TO FSU WOMEN AND ARE VERY HAPPY. I CONGRATULATE YOU ALL AND WISH YOU WELL BUT FOR ME IT HAS BEEN A NIGHTMARE!!!!!!!
