I am bringing my fiancee from Ukraine to the US in about two weeks. She is getting a fiancee visa, which means she can enter the US no problem. However, our flight will connect in Amsterdam or Frankfurt. I have been to both airports several times and I am positive we will have to go through passport control in order to get to the gates for US flights. My question is: how is she going through passport control without Shengen visa? Is a transit visa needed? does anyone know anything because apparently the airlines don't. Note: Most likely the connection point will be Amsterdam. Thank you.
I actually figured this. The Netherlands and generally the Schengen countries allow Ukrainian citizens to transit with no visa on the following conditions:
(a) Less than 72 hour connection
(b) She stays in the airport
(c) She continues on to non-Schengen country
So, for a connection in Amsterdam no need for transit visa. I hope they're right.
