I have made 3 trips to russia,to see the same woman and her daughter. We have also holidayed together in Turkey and are very close. She lives in Ekaterinburg which I believe was closed to westerners until 1991.Most people in the city I found to be very curt with foreigners,by that I refer to taxi drivers, waiters, shopkeepers etc.We have also been to many of Tanya's friends houses and the welcome is warm. However,I noticed when we were abroad,Tanya would never use the words please and thank you and was generally rude to foreign nationals, especially the local turks.I tried to explain that they were only trying to make a living but she continued to pout and turn her nose up at things when we were shopping. She also found fault in restaurants, nothing was to her liking however hard people tried. She is inherently racist and believes black people to be inferior to whites.I asked her if she had met any.She replied she didn't have to!Is racism inherent in russia?
Please, lets remember that in the USA and UK before anti racism laws, racism was a very big problem to our western countries - So big they had to outlaw it.
Now with Russia, they literally owned the biggest piece of land on earth (until little bits broke away etc) so even if it was outlawed there I doubt many black people actually managed to find their way across Russia to even be seen or worried about by the Russians.
I don't think that coloured people will be liked at all by any russian if I'm totally honest. Russia is like another USA but without the cash and with better morales - and twice the physical size!
With that in mind you think about the problems the USA had and still has with racism and then go figure what it must be like in Russia!
