I came in contact with a girl from Irkutsk. We only have some e-mail contact, but in my opinion she's really honest and sincere. Well ok. She says she's contacted an agency who can arrange for her a three month visit to any country in Europe. They give her some suggestions for places to work and arrange a hotel for her to sleep. She says she knows some other girls who done this before, also for three months, and they have found the love of their life and one is even married. This is also her plan. She says she has no future in Russia, she lives in a small village near irkutsk, and want a better life somewhere else in a better country. She haven't asked me for money or anything. I did gave her the name of the place I live, so the agency can arrange work and a place to stay nearby. She did asked me to live togetjer for a while but I said we shouldn't haste anything.
This is the first time for me being in contact with a girl from Russia, and to me it maybe is a little bit too ideal. But I can't think of something she can scam me with, and to me her intentions really sounds sincere. Do any of you have experience with something like this of know or heard it before? Maybe I'm too naïve, so any help would be great.
dirk,
Do not send any money until they have confirmed in which place and in which company she will be working, this will allow you to check out if the company is legitimate.
There is a saying, 'if it sounds too good to be true then it normally is too good to be true'!
Dirk
Firstly it could be a scam. But I know there are agencies that do advertise (at least in Moldova) to arrange such visas. Of course the visa application has to be accepted by the Embassy, but the agency will know or should know how best to meet the visa requirements. Of course the agency wants to make money, and I'm sure would, sometimes accept an application knowing it would probably be refused. Having said that they may have contacts ie ex-pat Russians in other countries who could sponsor people. Since my wife told me about such companies and how they could help I could imagine lots of girls would believe this was the best way to go about getting a visa. Your best bet is to go and visit her yourself…before sending money.
Ben,
I cannot speak for The Netherlands but as far as UK is concerned there is only one person that can make the visa application, and attend the interview, and that is the individual concerned.
As some will know I am, by friendship, associated with a small agency in Ukraine and they had an affiliate with an agency in Spain. The Spanish agency were charging guys mega bucks for these agency visa applications and simply wouldn't accept explanations from the Ukraine agency that they couldn't make these applications, the affiliation thereafter ended.
If Dirk is in any doubt then he should tell them to 'oprotten' and Dirk will know what that means :)
Dirk, what kind of Agency are you talking about? There is no way i could imagine the Dutch immigration allow a Russian to walk in and work, if Holland is part of Schengen, she can get a tourist visa, it sounds like a bit of a scam, be careful. Have you spoken to her on the phone?
How will she work if she can't speak English?
Why don't you meet her in Russia first????
Martin, it wouldn't be hard for a present and settled Russian in the UK to act as a reference or "relative" for a someone applying for visa to give extra credit to the application, most likely as a tourist not for work. Anyway what I'm saying is the agency would prepare the application, not actually submit it. Exactly the same as what a immigration lawyer would do in the west. I wouldn't use one myself but its not out of the question such companies exist and advertise over there and make it sound easy, which is were the girl got the idea from. But as zeeco suggests talk to her on the phone and better yet go and visit her.
There are special interest visas out there to the United states anyhow. Some that I know of are agricultural workers, students, religious volunteers, and there are others also. There is a dairy here that has 4 laborers from the FSU and a hog farm that previously had some FSU employees. The way I understand these work is that the applicant puts up a sum of money to cover visa airfare and a fee for an international exchange agency. The workers then are paid for their work which is generally enough to offset entry expenses and have money left over. The period for the ag workers here is 1 year.
As Martain mentioned the applicant would have to interview and do all of the visa applications.
The rub on this is 1. It has to be legitimate and 2. The fee to be put up front is around $3,000. This as far as I know is put up by the applicant. There may be financers there but I have not heard of them and I think it would be a very high risk if the applicant had no investment and got cold feet. Some of these programs also have an age limit of less than 25.
It is possible this lady is in one of these programs so continue writing to her and see. However I would guess that as the time gets closer you will be expected to be the financier and if this is the case the chances of her coming even if you send her your life savings are slim to none.
Thank you for all your goodwilling answers. I have been searching a bit on the internet and I founf out it IS a scam. By accident I came on a site while searching for her hometown. On this site reveals a man that he was almost scammed by a girl form Olha, lenina street 9, flat 39. Exactly the same address as my girl. He always got some emails exactly the same as she has sended to me. Haha, I was laughing when I saw all this. I haven't told her I know about her scam, so I think I will play with her a bit.
But probably I'm just emailing with some fat ugly guys, who are trying to make a little bit of money with these scammes. Who knows.....Haha I'm still laughing at myself that I was really thinking this girl was real!
To you all thanks again for your replies and succes in love and everything else in life!!
