For those of you starting to learn a new language, sharlotka is russian for apple pie. I often refer to my sweetheart as My Sharlotka. Cooking together is another great way to get to know someone. We make every attempt to cook together every night. Of coarse, the kitchen is small and often we do other things there too; we both look forward to talking about our day and we try to learn at least two new words a night.
Although we have not attempted sharlotka; we enjoy making Yablika Bilini. Thats apple pancake for you beginners. I first learned how much my sweetheart liked yablika bilinis the first time we went out for breakfast last April. Actually, a bilini is not a pancake at all. It is a crepe. Filled with apple and topped with several different toppings. I like to make my own syrup. Two cups sugar, one cup apple juice (green works the best) half cup water and a little cinnamon. Bring to a boil and let set. Oooooooh mama, sooooo tasty...... We make the bilini mix together. Larisa stirs and I toss in the ingredients.
Two eggs, one cup of moloko(milk),two tablespoons melted butter, a teaspoon of sugar and a pinch of salt. Add flour to a nice thin consistancy and cook in a hot pan. I pour as Larisa wriggles the pan back and forth to thin the edges. She likes to make them a little brown and I just like watching her cook. I will give you my apple filling recipe another time.
Cooking dinner or dessert can be fun anytime with the one you love.
Whats russian for "big girls blouse"? :) Its great you are so happy that the important thing but making apple pie doesn't do anything for me, i think eating it would be more fun.
Hey Martin, you're invited anytime for dinner. Apple BLIN included at no extra charge. Or? Possibly some cherry blin..... A few days ago Larisa returned from her village and as always brought some tasty treats back. My favorite is always some of Peters red wine. Peter is Larisa's father and I don't think he knows there is any more of that tasty red wine left after all the New Years celebration. I asked her if her father knew she had borrowed a litre and she did admit Luda, (Larisa's mom) had put some away for a rainy day. Thank heavens for the terrible weather and all the rain. Last night we polished off the last of it. I don't recall nursing three glasses of anything for three nights...
Oh, I forgot to tell you about the other tasty treat's she always comes back with, the borsch is what I look forward to. It comes in a jar always wrapped with care and the yesterdays newspaper; now if I could only read it. I usually unpack her bag for her before I even say hello)
This last time, I found another surprise, a jar of her mom's canned cherries. She told me it was one of the last times we will eat cherries from that tree, it died last year for some reason.
Last night was Cherry BLIN night. You need to hurry over for dinner and dessert, the cherries won't last much longer.
Bill54,
It was referring to calling her 'my apple pie' that I was laughing at :) If I were to call my wife an apple pie, such is her sense of humour, she would probably need to change her underwear from laughing so much.
oz,
I spend about 15 minutes a day in the kitchen, when I'm not getting a take-away or eating out that is, and I'm guessing you're referring to the steak & chips recipe in another thread.
Well put it this way, I'm not about to start calling my wife 'my little steak & chips with parmesan & rocket salad', if I did I would probably be in need of hospital attention :)
Bill, what do you call your girlfriend should you be making faggots? :)
I guess your recipe was on another thread. I can cook to survive. I refuse to eat much out of a box or package. But when I was married I could not do anything in the kitchen to suit my x-wife so I stayed out of the kitchen. And I could not give anybody a recipe because I add ingredients to taste and have no idea what is in it when I am done.
