Doesn't sound 100% legitimate but try running the agency name thru Google to see what others may have said. Interpreters are less than EUR10 per hour. But peter, this is just on day one, what happens on day 2 and thereafter, more money after money after money? I would bail out now rather than get myself into a difficult situation but I can't advise you what to do. Women have met me with the agency at the airport. Maybe I pay courtesy taxi - but with genuine Ukranian women you'll never be asked in advance to pay as they have far too much pride. Im not saying its a scam - but a Ukr lady genuinely interested in you would always swallow her pride and risk paying the taxi fare etc without asking you in advance. It seems she is not that interested in you right now. So keep back up options open before you get there and when there - at leats until you qualify her intentions. Your initial post would be like me saying I am buying a car from a dealer. It cost $2000. Is that a good deal? This cannot be known without details. The fact that you do not know who the agency is that you are dealing with would be a big red flag. If you told that then somebody may have experience with them. The agency fee and taxi fee as Martin said that depends on what services you are getting and how far the taxi ride is. Nobody can give you an intelligent answer with the details you gave. Pretend that you are an agency and I am peter24, I am telling you that I am arriving in Kiev at 1400 hours on 15 February, as a businessman would you take the chance that it will cost you, as an agency businessman, EUR120 to travel from Sumy to Kiev just on the offchance, a 1 in 20 chance (5% vs 95%), that I will arrive because if I don't then you have a EUR120 taxi fare to pay and the agency/interpreter fee also. Do you have a phone number for this agency, if you do then perhaps post it here so we may establish if it is a mobile or not, no reputable company works from a mobile, even in Ukraine. Now if you want a taxi then search on the internet, ukrainefare.com for one, ask their prices for Kiev to Sumy but regardless of their prices try to suggest to the lady that everything is OK, you are cool, you will make your own way to Sumy and just wait to see if she starts 'kicking and screaming' that you MUST go with her arrangements ..... if so then you will know it is a scam. beemer18 Member send PM   block PM add to buddies Send: 1/30/2008 10:47:55 PM   Can I interject here...I was in peter's position last year. Girl's agency wanted to arrange taxi for me at $150usd each way and stay in 1 of their apts at $45usd. Those prices are close to going rate, I remember ukrainefare taxi was $130 each way (to and from airport), I did find another agency there in sumy that charges only $100usd each way for taxi. Girl was upset with me when she learned I was using a rival agency for apt and taxi!!! :))) I forget how I found girl I went to see's agency in sumy, i couldn't find it on internet...oh yes, would you believe rival agency recognized name and gave me her agency name and website. I don't understand why it did not show up in searches. My opinion on this is prices are in line( other than 'other services'a ridiculous amount), I don't see bright future for this meeting, I did hear that some girls in agencies in sumy, refused to meet with guys once they were in sumy and agency offered to show other girls. Peter, hope you have a back up plan. I can give you name of agency in sumy that a trust somewhat.They are listed if googled. She could tell you about 'sumy love'. Last year I travelled from Kiev to Sumy by train. You can get there easily for a very small fraction of what they are proposing to charge you for the taxi. Easy peasy! Pay 1 quid for a taxi from Sumy train station to centre, but dont do such long journeys by taxi! DONT DO IT! (unless you are some rich Yank who does not care about wasting money anyway!) Get on the bus from Kiev airport and for a couple of quid you will be at the main Kiev train station, then sort from there. jetmba. During the three-plus weeks I was there, I was in the station around eight times, to buy or exchange a ticket for my lady and I, her sister, several combinations. The lines are long and confusing. Each window has a different start and stop time and takes breaks at different times. And if you happen to be the fifth person in line and have stood there for 45 minutes, when the attendant takes break, she (generally a she) simply shuts off the light and you can either go to a different line or wait till she comes back. Some lines sell tickets, some merely give refunds. Too bad for you if you don't speak Russian and cannot figure if you are in the right line. Some may even specialize in particular runs to different cities. (It was the case in some smaller railway stations I visited in Ukraine. Not sure about Kiev.) Time tables are located in a completely different area - not the ticket window itself, and are written in cyrillic. So you better be able to read that, speak Russian yourself, or have a patient interpreter with you (or a Ukrainian girlfriend in my case). When you buy a ticket - you can ride cattle-car (third class) cheaply - with 12,000 other people per car (or maybe it just seemed like 12,000 other people crammed in a car). You can ride second-class with four to a berth (upper bunks are less popular, especially those near the end, by the toilets, which will bang and keep you awake at night). First-class is best - but two tickets will set you back more than FOUR second-class tickets, comprising an entire berth. Now, don't get me wrong - I LOVED traveling by Ukrainian train - with my lady and even on one trip, with her sister (the three of us in a four person berth) - but the is no way IN HELL that I would have attempted to just jaunty on down to the Kiev Railway Station on my own and buy a ticket! Way to difficult and confusin if you don't know the language, the layout of the station, or what the customs are. If brand new in Kiev and on my own - I would MUCH rather pay a $120 (or 120 EU) to ride a taxi. I called her at the kiev statation and she suggested going to the International window because they would know English. Well there were many lines of a lot of people eeny meeny miny moe. I picked a line, got to the window and knew enough Russian to say I needed a ticket for Dnepropetrovsk. A gentleman in the next line overheard me and told me here this is a good train you want it. I bought the ticket and made my way back to the boarding area trying to figure out what that ticket said and when and where my train was leaving. I thought I had it figured and my train would leave in two hours. I knew 2 words of Russian and there were a couple grandmother type ladies there that knew 3 words of English and we played cat and mouse trying to understand each other. Soon the pointed with a little bit of anxiety to a gate several down from where I knew my train left from. Then one of the ladies started stopping people one at a time and then letting them go on until one young fellow they stopped and they motioned me to follow him, he was on my train and he would help me find my car and seat. Wow I might be sitting there still without such friendly people there to help. What I had figured out about my ticket was all wrong. PS. this was in December a year ago so I am sure there would been much larger lines in July as there were in St Petersburg this past July. I am guessing we waited 2 hours in line and as jet said the lady went on break. It was 85 F outside and I am sure 120F in the station with no fans or air moving. When we got to the window all that was left was a cattle car or box car as my friend put it. I imagined bringing sleeping bags and spreading them out on the floor. But to my surprise this was a very pleasant trip. 3rd class as they call a cattle car is not much different than second. For those of you not familiar with trains there 1st class has a bed bench hight that you can sit on or lay down and sleep. They are perpendicular to the train and there are two of them with a small table in the middle. This is an enclosed room with a sliding door at the foot of the beds and a hallway on the other side of the door. Second class is about the same only there are two upper bunks that fold down to make four beds. 3rd class or the cattle car is almost the same except that there is no wall or door between you and the hallway and on the other side of the hallway are an upper and lower bunk running parallel to the train. The bottom bunk in all classes has a trunk under the bottom bunk and you lift your bed up to stow your belongings under it. Take that bus, cheap, to the train station in Kiev. There are hotel rooms in the top floor of the train station if you wish to stay a night or just need a shower, about 40usd. You can take the subway, The entrance is right by the McDonalds, three stations from the train station to the Moscow store and buy some food and wine for your trip.Then book a private cabin on a train with your lady. If you get your tickets early, all trains leave in the early evening, there is not any line.
