Hi guys i ve been with my girlfriend one year this march and we see each other every 6 weeks vacations etc.She lives in Kiev but is Russian.Last night she told me about Ukraine girls...and men stay away ..Money money money thats all they think about.I myself have never been to Russia but many years in Ukraine,I think this true if you look for just a good time ..Ukraine is ok but i think difficult to find a good woman. But this is just the words from my girlfriend so maybe you will have to find out for yourself
TIN -yes you are correct about ukraine woman. At first it may not be obvious .she may not ask man for money, but later after mmany weeks together she ask for large amount of money.Foreign man will pay because he does not want to lose regular sex with the woman. It is difficult for foreign man to let go of woman after close but false feelings.
Lyudmilla.....you may be true in your post but what makes you think I cannot get sex at home for free, if you think I am in FSU search for sex, you are way off, the minute discussion turns toward money,I am gone. It may be difficult for some men to let go of women but those are men that have nothing going for them...at home or on road.
Fact is, I have never been asked for money, I have had some dificult stories told to me but I just sympathize with girl and from beginning tell girls I am not in search to buy love!!!
There is 'rivaly' between many a country, between all counties of GB for starters, GB and France, France and GB, Australia and New Zealand, USA and Canada, all countries and Germany :), Iran and Iraq, one portion of Belgium with the other portion of Belgium :) and Russia and Ukraine, Ukraine and Russia, are no different :)
I think there are selfish women everywhere in the world. I met three or 4 of them in FSU. On my 5th women i met the right one. She is kind and not self centered, so many of these girls want money and to be pampered. Forget that! I run. The one you want to marry will think about you and not ask for money, but only show her love. This is the one you want to keep and marry.
I can tell you one thing for sure. Marriage agencies are drying up in the Ukraine. Over the past few years, many of the honest agency owners have left the business. My friend who came to Nikolaev last week, was able to meet three girls on the weekend. All three were 21 years old. The agency could not find other women a little older on short notice. What does this tell you? many women here are happy with life and conditions. It is not perfect in the Ukraine mostly due to concerns for the level of honesty in the government. I meet very few ladies who actually want to leave the Ukraine. As with all countries, good things take time.
There are still many beautiful, loving women here in the Ukraine. But, for any man to just come here and think he will go back home with a bride ain't goin to happen. Love takes time and care, just for starters.
I agree that Ukraine has become way too competitive, as I said to someone on this forum only last week, if I were starting out on this process now I'd probably say 'Phuck this, I'm going for a beer' :)
I agree wholeheartedly that almost all women from Ukraine are after your wallet. I married a woman from Odessa in 6/07/05 and she left my home without notice while I was at work 1/16/07. She filed a restraining order against me three days later even though I had no idea where she went. She was obviously put up to it. I was informed by my insurance company that she had wrecked the brand new Toyota Solara I bought for her 1/16/07 in North Hollywood making an illegal left hand turn. This was just the start of my nightmare. The restraining order was not granted (she had no case) and I filed for divorce. She has recently filed another restraining order against me (I have not seen her in over a year except in court) alleging that I tried to kidnap her in Nov. 07 and various other completely insane accusations. This was a total sham from the start although I did not see it coming. I have to pay her $2000 temporary spousal support because she has no job and does not know English. This has been going on over a year and I am no closer to getting rid of this criminal Yes I know guys I was stupid but I tell you these things to inform you that everything may seem right but it can all go south VERY quickly. I spent almost $30K in legal fees and spousal support in 2007. I hate to destroy your dreams but alot of these women are EVIL and they do not care who they destroy in their quest for the almighty DOLLAR. Be very, very careful gentleman. I am paying a terrible price for being married for 1 1/2 years to someone who clearly had another agenda in mind.
Well Jet...I am venturing into new territory....Moldova...going to see what secrets I can unveil. From what I gather.....I have to be a little more careful and speak more russian, at least I look more moldovian than I look russian!!
Regarding the money differences - I swear that a lot of us are absolutely blind to the situation.
One very attractive lady (age 27) I know is working as an administrator for between 20 and 25 grievna per day. A dollar is worth roughly 5 grievna - so she makes between $4 and $5 per day. And thats considered to be a DECENT JOB!
Food, in grocery stores, cost roughly the SAME in Ukraine as it does in the US. Clothing varies - but in many places its actually more EXPENSIVE.
Doesn't take an economist, an accountant or a genius to realize that most of US would be struggling and desperate is we were making $4 to $5 per day and all of our other costs were the same as they are now.
Oh its true that they have a few advantages - people either OWN their apartments outright, or they are completely out of reach (decent apartments in Kiev START AT $100,000). THATS why young women typically live with their parents - How can they afford their own place, based on their own incomes?
Ukrainians are PROUD and have done without for a long time. They AREN'T desperate - but I'm sure you will understand if they view some of the unaffordable luxuries that they see on television and in movies with some desire.
They aren't stupid either. The women are aware that they are as desirable and attractive as any are in the world. And they are quite aware that naive foreign men - who think nothing of paying $100 to $150 just for a hotel room (30 times what the Ukrainian women make in a day) come for their attention.
THAT is why you can so easily get their attention - even if you are much older, fat, and lack all social skills. But its also why there are so many ways to be scammed. And its also why it is so difficult to sort out the chaff from the grain - and to find the genuine and true Ukrainian women (they ARE THERE!) who are so much better than their western counterparts.
How can you scrape by on $4 to $5 in Ukraine, with any dignity?
Well, you DON'T make $1,000 per month rent/house payment like the typical westerner does. No problem. Like I said - they either OWN there apartments outright (having been passed down in the family from grandma) or they live with their parents. No payments to make. OR seven young people live in a tiny cramped apartment in Kiev (one case I know of) because they have not-very lucrative jobs (like being simply a school teacher).
You DON'T make $400 per month car payments. Few young women own cars. They typicall walk EVERYWHERE or take trolleybusses etc. Fortunately the subway in Kiev lets you travel anywhere in the city for 1/2 grievna (equivalent of ten cents).
You buy few clothes - often in less expensive outdoor markets (though the women I have met LOVE the idea of buying ANYTHING at the more expensive indoor markets) and you take fastidious care of them. Things are HANDWASHED or very gently machine washed and then hung up to dry. (No destructive tumbling dryers!). You keep the plastic bags that most clothing comes in and you carefully wrap each item up in the plastic bag when not being worn.
You DO scrape by - and you don't ask others for help (something certainly ANY western woman would do) as its not coming anyway.
It does well to have some view of the economic conditions over there to know something of their motivations.
I'm going to have to re-check my wife's passport. She isn't greedy, doesn't wake up each day thinking about money. I though she was Ukrainian. Lyudmila reminds me of Annika77, doesn't have a whole lot of good to say about Ukrainian women. Maybe she's a little jealous.
Bill54 is correct above with the exception of the Oxymoron, honest agency. Even my wifes, who she said it was one of the better ones, still operates in the shady area. Most aren't looking to leave Europe, so you better bring something with you besides living in the land of milk and honey. Their life is what they know. My wife couldn't even understand life in the US, because she only saw it from the Hollyweird side. To them what we see is struggle is normal day to day life for them. Not much different than living in the Socialist United States, except that we may have more material things and owning a home is more of a reality than in Ukraine.
Jet is right, the honest and decent ladies aren't looking for a sugar daddy or a handout. Some ladies make their own clothes. Some buy on time at their friends shop. They are very Proud and strong willed. When times get difficult they don't run to their purses and pop prozac. They find solutions to their problems.
Actually I had a funny post here in response to Martins Rivalry Post where I had some not so nice things to say about France, they must have not found it as funny as I and therefor didn't post it.
But for myself, and just starting out, nothing real seems to be coming from Ukraine, only crap, but it early yet so what the heck do I know,
PS,, It may have been an american view of the French, somehow though, I think anybody from GB would've found it funny too..
Thanks nastan6 for the vote of confidence. Last Saturday was the tenth time I have taught a english class here in Nikolaev. I teach classes from 3 to 12 students at a time at various levels. One of the questions I am often asked during our get to know each other first meeting is about Hollywood. I have been asked several times if I have ever met any movie stars. Of coarse the answer is no, I watch them on tv like the rest of the world. Teaching english here pays about 10 bucks an hour by the way. If you are careful and are lucky enough to have a best friend like my sweetie pie, ten bucks can go a long way here. I guess I am lucky she found me in cyberspace 14 months ago. There are many women here who are searching for someone to love. I wish I could pass along the secret to finding a souldmate here. The truth is, I know there is no magical formula.
Made me laugh, I recall one morning having breakfast on the pier at Santa Monica, not only were the group of us hungover from the night before but we were tucking in to strawberry daiquiri's for breakfast, and the Incredible Hulk went running past the window (they were filming), we took one look before quickly ordering another round of drinks :)
One bit of luckiness about living in Los Angeles is the attention I get when telling girls in ukraine stories about movie stars I have met in fancy clubs along Wilshire Blvd. Any advantage I can get kudos for me!!!! Most are just normal people, some are a##holes like Brittney and Paris...strange as in Michael Jacko....not really my scene but I get in the mood and it's off to something like the Viper Room or sneeking into a party in Hollyweird.
Martin....maybe I saw you as I was laying out on the sand...were you near the pier?? :))
Beemer,
I was on the bl00dy pier but that was back in 1981 :)
Now who have I met in my career, Tina Turner in circa 1983/4, she was fine until the flight attendant told her off for having her walkman on during the emergency briefing.
John Cleese, lovely man, flight delayed to Barbados and rather than take the offered VIP lounge opted for a cheese sandwich in the airline offices whilst keeping the staff in hysterics.
Mike Reid (ex Eastenders), as mouthy in real life as is on screen, kept mouthing off that he couldn't understand why I kept going to the toilet during turbulence or landing (he didn't appreciate that there were 348 passengers, including 4 staff (1 of them me), on a 345 seater aircraft)
Ed 'Stewpot' Stewart was as drunk as a skunk on that same flight, it was the 'wish you were here' film team,
Oh Roger Moore, Michael Schumacher, Patsy Kensit and a gay comedian (can't recall his name) were drinking in the Luxembourg Irish pub that I was part of the family of, David Soul (wife batterer) when he believed he could sing shortly after his Husky & Starch days, was having a fling with his PA, gawd I can't remember who else :)
