Not sure if many of you regulars remember me from a little over a year ago. I married a Russian woman I met here it he states. We have a daughter together. When I was here a over a year a go my wife and I were going through some problems. She didn't know how to talk to me when something was bothering her and she'd let it build up until she'd kick of a monster argument. I left southern California and move to the Midwest for her. She was unable to quit her job and move due to some contractual restrictions she had with her then employer. I had just finished going back to school for my 2nd degree and was not having any luck finding work in my new profession so I decided I would move to the Midwest since I have been a network administrator for many years and knew finding a job in IT wouldn't be an issue. Well having no friends here I had no one to talk to when she and I would have these fights. I would try to talk to her but she always closed up so I would talk to my friends back in California or my sister about it. This bothered my wife which upset me more since the only reason I had to talk to others was her refusal to sit down and talk things out with me. It got so bad that I had decided I had enough. She finally opened up to me a few days before I was supposed to move back to California. We worked things out and stayed together. Well enough background. My wife lost her father Christmas day 2006. Thanksgiving of that year we both went to Russia. She and our daughter were there for 2 months I was there for 2 weeks. There was some sort of medical emergency with her mother before I arrived. Well my wife was afraid of losing her mother while she was still here in the US just like she lost her father. She wanted to move back to Russia for a little while to be with her mother which I understood. She and our daughter both went to Russia with my blessings. She's been there for 7 months. We talk almost every day on the phone. Well she isn't ready to come back yet and after much discussion I decided to move to Chelyabinsk Russia to be with them. Now we come to my question. Money would not be an issue while I'm there but boredom sure is. I expect to be in Russia for at least a couple years. My wife says I can teach English there if I get too bored. Well, my Russian isn't very good and I have no teaching background. How realistic is it for me to teach English in Russia with my poor Russian and lack of a teaching background? My wife says she's spoken with a school there and they told here all I would need to do is pass their English test. Any info and/or advice you guys can offer would be greatly appreciated.

Many student get english only teachers as it forces them to communicate, there is no fallback and the accents also help them to get a better understanding of spoken english.
Thank you for the reply. This move has me a bit nervous. I've been to Russia before but that was to visit for a couple weeks. Actually moving there for an indeterminate length of time is quite another. It will quite an experience for sure. I've been reading some of the horros stories here and not sure how seriously to take them.
groon, horror stories come from people that walk around with their eyes closed mostly, they refuse to open them.
your biggest problem will be the boredom as you said.
your little girl has awesome eyes.
It is possible to teach english in almost any foreign country, the Ukraine and Russia included. You can get certified without too much trouble but, I would suggest you consider earning a TESL or TEFL certificate now. It could takes as little as three weeks to do this. There are many online sites that offer this. I teach at least 15 english classes a week at a private language school in the Ukraine. If I am teaching an Elementary class, Larisa is always there to help me. Most of the students will understand some English and will be able to speak some. You will have no problem if you like to teach and don't need to earn a ton of cash. Expect to earn as little as 8 dollars and as much as 15 dollars a hour.
sh*t good point bill i forgot myself here for a bit:)
touchy touchy lot, actually down under here we do not have a great love affair for Americans.
to define it your politics and politicians suck.
i totally agreed with the Iraq business but troops should not be there now.
funny thing dr no, this problem America has with Iran and Arabs in general has a similar take to the old cold war days,, politicians and little people hated them, now it seems the little people have changed their minds on Slarv's?
when general people take on the thoughts of politicians you get stupid banter like this.
the 9,11 thing, its odd how American politicians have a part media ban on this subject.
they also put one on your guy who fertiliser bombed that federal building, and so on.
your government controls your media.
this creates questions dose it not.
or are the average Americans blind to this media business as much as what your politicians do to others?
i really cannot see oil hitting 20 a barrel, maybe 5-6,, we also have huge oil reserves down under here and it is big, but will only be pumped when it hits 5 a barrel.
but until then we will use American oil,, sorry Arab oil.
actually our oil will be called American oil it seems..
