I communicated, (I think) with a woman on loveme.com she says she is in Russia.
There is no email supplied, and the messages are obviously a few bucks each. Is this site an
assumed scam? Is this likely a fake persona? i.e. someone else is writing the notes claiming to
be the lovely woman? Straight to the point, do you vets of this realm have a known method or test
which you apply to find out if it is a genuine person you are communicating with?
I would try to get direct communication with the lady somehow. If you cannot get it from Loveme google search for her on a site you can. Or try to get her phone number through email and have an independent translator contact her. The only sure known method is to meet em, marry em, and live with em till you die and if you were still happy the test is positive and I hope for both of you.
I agree with Land. get her cell phone call her. ask her to go to inet cafe do video chat. if she say she has no money, ignore her. send her a small flower gift, ask to make photo. Meet her and see if you are right for each other. never send money for any reason.
Well first line of defense ask detailed questions about her education job family etc, the answers should detailed and specific and she should reply in kind (i.e. asking you similar questions). Despite the horror stories common on this forum the majority of women on the majority of sites are for real.
Usually a genuine women will invite you meet them or at least hint at it after a few messages have been exchanged, or at the very least be receptive to the idea if you bring it up.
Just a quick little tip for Americans who choose to send a parcel to the FSU.
One of the best values going is offered by the US Postal Service. There are flat rate boxes of four different sizes allowing you to ship something up to 20 lbs for something like $53 for the large flat rate box - and $37 for the next two smaller flat rated boxes. The 20 lb limit though applies to all.
Of course you don't HAVE to use a flat rate box - if what you are mailing is very light then the flat rate box might not be your best deal. You can use another box to send via Priority Mail and pay by the pound.
But HERE is the point I wrote this post in order to make. Whenever I have sent anything via Priority Mail in an ordinary box - it is ALWAYS delayed by customs in Ukraine. And often time ridiculous things are confiscated. One time I sent a metal can of nacho cheese sauce (believe it or not my lady loves nacho cheese) but it was confiscated. The reason? The explanation note said that it was not hygenic to send cheese in the mail?!?! (This was pastuerized and in a tin can!). I fixed the problem the next time by simply pasting a label for pickeled beets on the can and tried again. It went through.
The trick is not to use an ordinary box though. Use an "official" US Postal Service Priority Mail (red white and blue with an eagle yet) that you can get free at the Post Office. FOr some reason Ukraine customs doesn't seem to scrutize those to the same degree. Never had one delayed in customs yet. Maybe I've just been lucky with them - or maybe being an official looking box they are bypassed as somehow being less likely to contain anything valuable or illegal because they've been checked by some official on THIS end (they aren't of of course). For whatever reason - I have had great luck using the official looking government box.
I sent many parcels to Ukraine. The last one was about $125 worth of videos sent in early February to Kerch. It never made it. Now, I don't know if I will send anymore.
RB.......do you ever go to sleep??
If you are in LA, it is 3am to send your post, unless you sent it hours ago and it
barely made it to site!!!
Thanks for pointer Jet, maybe I'll try it soon. I have only sent one thing through the
mail...a letter.
I know land of oz gave me some pointers on addressing outside of box with combo of english and russian labeling.
RB.....you post in the middle of the night??? I only know this because of time difference.
Sometimes sleep???? Maybe you should get proper rest 7-8 hours, just like me now.....I'll sleep till mid day!!! zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
I looked up Labor Day for Ukraine and it said May 1. May 2 and 3 are Saturday and Sunday. Does anyone know why May 4 is labeled Labor Day Holiday? Does that mean they celebrate and take both days off?
