Many months ago I asked for advice on how to connect to the internet (not just wifi or through wires) EVERYWHERE in Ukraine. I was given some advice. I did research on the web. I brought along a notebook computer and a (supposedly) internet ready world phone. But SURPRISE - the phone wouldn't work (it was an Iphone clone and the system kept asking for brand and model, which I supplied. But the system hadn't HEARD of this particula brand or model.) And I was not able to loacte a special internet SIM card for my wireless adapter DESPITE going to MTS offices in KYIV!
So I am asking again. Hoping for better advice and the chance to update my equipment BEFORE I go.
I now have a little eeepc (G3 connectivity as well as wifi) - bought a bluetooth adaptor for it - and will be bringing SOME world phone.
I'm asking someone who actually has experience in Ukraine traveling and being able to use the internet anywhere - how do I do it?
This is JETMBA just showing everrybody a little trick in this forum.
Go to your persoanl account and simply change your name - even to an established member - and you can post as ANYBODY.
Of course - ALL of your posts will be listed like that. Look back and see that now officially jetmba hasn't ever posted ANYTHING. But "I can post as anybody" has!
I don't know what's going on now! The system allows me to log in but when I try to update my information, change my avatar, it tells me Martin_FFC already exists.
I know he exists, IT'S ME, so why can't I update my information?
Any sim-based data connection will in general "just work" but will be hellishly expensive - usually $10 per megabyte !
If you can make calls using a device then you can also use it as a modem for internet so long as the roaming provider allows data service (you might have to manually select a network provider rather than just taking the default though).
I use google mail and google translate on my tytn II/vario III when out and about but I wouldnt go near a full blown browser use when roaming ojn a mobile connection: last time I did that I ended up with $700+ bill :-)
