Is this a good enough salary to take for a job I have seen in Dneproprtrovsk? It's $1600 a month. I don't know how much tax they take off but it sounds quite a bit, so would that be a good salary for there?
Well that's only GBP800 per month, regardless of what tax they might or might not take there would be very little of wining and dining out at western style restaurants, would need to live a 'cooking & eating at home' existence, not much money available for taking ladies out and with the recent hike in fuel prices a round trip Dnepr-UK-Dnepr might cost circa GBP450 which would need to be saved up for.
Boredfuka. It is certainly a low wage by western standards but i think you save yourself a lot of money though in ukraine by not buying bottled drinking water from the shops.Drink tap water but make sure it has been boiled and use water purification tabs.
That’s reasonably big money for Kiev – so I would think even bigger for there !!!
I just heard the Kiev government stats today on the local TV business channel, 32% of people are still getting paid “under the table” NO tax !!!!
They are talking about dropping the tax rate on wages to try and encourage more legitimate payrolls etc
This place still has me scratching my head every day I move around seeing and meeting people. There appears to be no shortage of spending going on. They drive their nice new cars like they are trying to wreck them, not like someone who has struggled and saved to buy from hard work etc
There is 2 worlds though.
You can be in a place like Paris in one part of the city and within 10 minutes be in a market that quite frankly reminds me of nothing I have ever seen b4, people very dirty, hard sun baked skin men, women as round as 44 gallon drums and rubbish every where with dogs and old vehicles that belch raw diesel fumes etc etc etc !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
But it’s a good place to be, if you do not have to struggle to survive, big opportunities here because of the population base. The market that I just mentioned above was a fruit and vegetable market. Cheapest in Kiev. Most of the little Kiosks and stall you see around the city selling fruit – vege’s – nuts etc get their produce from this market at 4 – 5am every day and resell it near the apartment blocks and metro etc. They do alright too !!!!!
I have already worked out i could live just outside Dnepropetrosvk for around $1200 a month and live quite well in a decent sized rented flat, with plenty spare to dine/drink out... big bottle water 80p hardly break the bank???!
Ted,
Robin was having a 'dig' because the last time the poster went to Ukraine he drank the tap water, suffered from gut rot, and subsequently complained that there should have been a notice, obviously written in English, warning not to drink the tap water :)
That's good money considering in Spain you earn 600 to 700 euros a month in non-union sales and service jobs. In Eastern Europe bank girl snow make 200 euros or so a month. back in early 2002, $50 a month was considered an average salary in Romania and Bulgaria. Back then doctors earned $250 a month in Bulgaria.
Well I've been reading your posts and it seems that the salary would be ok to survive on quite well, but not to go out dining every night at expensive places...a but like the UK really, if you are on under 2 grand a month with a mortgage.
I went for the interview and he said that you get $1050 cash with the rest going for the apartment rent. There was no tax to pay apparently. Anyway, I really need a bigger salary at the moment, although I would have loved to go do the job, so looks like I will have to just visit the country again if I want to meet up with some ladies. Pity really, coz in my mind you only get to know someone properly if you see them for quite a while.
Hey Boredfukka I reckon you should start a business exporting bottled water from England to Ukraine, Malvern water or Buxton water would be very popular.
I think the water joke has run its course now. For fooks sake, how many times do you go to a country abroad and think to yourself....er, I don't think I will drink the water in my hotel room. And as if you are looking out for little notices...how many times have you read completey the fire rules on the back of the hotel room door? Sometimes, perhaps, but not always...especially when Anastasia or Dasha is in the shower!
for ukrainian standards this is a good salary. I have been many times in the Ukraine. I know many people around there. But I still not understand the differences in wages. The average income is still very low. My ex gf had a good salary with 500 dollar each month. She was 22 years old and had a better salary than her father. In many cities you need be happy when you get this.In Kiev the wages are much better. But we not know how to live there and will have problems. Even with 2000 dollar I think. I have a friend who has a very good job in europe. He lives many months a year in the Ukraine with his wife and children. And can very good live from 1000 dollar every month.
