Could one simply be direct and ask her about such matters? But it doesn't means that ALL girls from this place are scammers for sure. Using model's photos and false addresses-I know a lot about it too, but scammers can be found everywhere, not only Lugansk. For some reasons however Lugansk is the most popular. There are many ways to check if she is real. 90% of scams are revealed at the very first attempt to make address verification or to take a photo of a girl at the flower delivery. So just check if she is real and dont send her any money until you meet her in person and find out that not only she is real, but her intentions are real as well. I really dont know how you will put a question asking her about it...if she is a scammer she will say she is not. If she is not-she most probably will be upset that you suspect her...So you better do necessary research yourself first and dont make any conclusions untill you see some definite red flags that will make you worry. chipscher Member send PM   block PM add to buddies Send: 11/11/2003 3:57:54 PM   Does she use the agency? I should have been more precise in my orginal statement, but I would still appreciate another word or two from you Olga (and others). I have been a member at a site called FRIENDFINDER for sometime now. The site is legit and more than reputable -- it's located in Palo Alto, CA which is just across the bay from where I live. One can look at profiles locally, state-wide, nationally, OR internationally. The site has free as well as paid memberships. It is NOT intended for 'russian girl' searches, etc.. It is merely that one can 'find them' here - as well as searches which yield the person across the street from you. I did a "Ukranian" search and this is what brought me to 'Lesya's' profile. She is a free member, however, I contacted her FIRST, based on her profile and picture information. She was apparently corresponding through an "Internet Cafe", which, according to her re-telling of the matter, offered her a couple of weeks for $5.00 USD. After two weeks, however, she said the service would be terminated. She said the 'cyber cafe' would give her a membership for $100.00 USD a month with 'unlimited' letters; since we wanted to continue e-mailing, I agreed to pay the tab. It was when I learned this week about Lugansk that I had 2nd thoughts. I'm sure she is real - that is, no 'Vladimir/Borris' on the other side. This is not my concern. If Lugansk has a bad rep, I was merely wondering about the cost. Olga, do you think 100 bucks a month for e-mail access sounds legit -- could she be skimming off the top? If Ukrainian's make $800 per annum, this extra $50 or so, if the service say, only costs $50.00 COULD represent a good part-time salary coming from me. I don't much any of it, but what is her real probable cost, in your best guesstimation? Most people in Ukraine have a salary much less then 100$.I dont beleive that some place could have charged her that much for a month of service.Especially in Ukraine. What you described now looks very much like typical scam. Thats how it usually works-for two three weeks everything is just fine, then all of a sudden a girl cant continue a corespondence, please send some money. Two weeks were just to get you on the hook. To check whats going on you can offer her the following thing at the end of the month when she will ask you to pay again. Tell her that you found and agency that will deliver the messages to her and forward you her responses so she even will not have to go to internet cafe to type those. That you have already opened an account with this agency and that this way will be more convenient for her and you bith. See the reaction. I really didnt mean to say anything bad about this girl. But the situation you described is too typical. As for the costs-in Russia an hour access to internet in cyber cafee costs 1,5-2$. Some places can be more expensive and charge additional fee for traffic. But I dont beleive that in Ukraine it costs that much. Could I be more-or-less confident about the 'honest intentions' factor from women profiled on your site? How much does your company truly screen before they 'allow' and ad to be listed here? Long distance relationship gives lots of opportunities for scammers.As for honest intentions-you never know how honest are they untill you get to know this lady in person. As for screening ladies. There are two types of ladies on the site. Those who got registered here by their own and have private e-mails. In those cases we can only call the lady and get sure that the phone number is correct and ask her to confirm her postal address. We dont do any background checks on her and I think no company can afford this. The other ladies are placed on the site by the agencies. Local agencies have a contract with us according to which they are obliged to give us information only of REAL ladies, whom they met in their office face to face. They are responsible for all the information they provide us and in case of a fraud we can take legal actions against this company. Again, all this measures only can ensure that she is real. Flesh and blood and using this very postal address. But her intentions-who knows about it? Who will say for sure that she really choose this very person to be with him for the rest of her life? I know about cases when ladies pretended to be angels up to the point they got married and went to other country and there they turned into cruel materialistic cretaures, interested only in money and green card. What I am trying to say here is: here we only TRY to be sure that a girl is real. Tha it is not some Boris writing you letters using a model photo from magazine. Here we TRY to avoid scams-as soon as someone reports us that this or this lady was found in a scam list we take actions-remove her profile from the site or talk to her agency. Here we TRY to protect our customers- as soon as a girl is noticed in asking for money through pur site we delete her profile after the first warning. We give a customer a chance to see how many letters she gets so that he could get an idea if he is the one.. But its all we can do here. I truly beleive that thare is sooo many information about scammers now, so many tips about it over the Internet, that every person who can read and who is attentive always can detect a scammer. And if one communicate with a lady for a long time, there are many ways to find out about her personality and see that something is going wrong here before getting hurt or dissappointed or before loosing money.I beleive that 99,9% of all men who claimed about being scammed just allowed scammers take an advantage of them. So dont let ypur guard down untill you meet a girl in person and untill you know her really well. I started this internet search for a nice woman with absolutly no knowlege whatsoever, and while I have been on the phone endlessly to NCSC, as well as many conversations with lawyers and the Consulate in Moscow, and Kiev, I know much more than average.
