I will be traveling round trip by train from Kiev to Cremea does any body on this forum know how much it would cost me I would prefer first class cabin. thanks
Prices vary depending on time and "quality" of train - but most trains head toward Crimea late in the evening and cost around $120 to $160 for a single ticket (one way). To assure that you get a private first class cabin - you would have to purchase both tickets of course. Or you could purchase one and hope that the other seat (bed) is unsold.
Tcikets generally have to be purchased directly at the train station - where they only typically speak Russian and Ukranian and you often stand for quite a while in long lines. You may be able to get an agency to buy you the ticket - at some cost.
Any reason you are not flying Kiev-Simferopol? Cost of tickets seem close and you get there in
1 1/2 hours by plane. It took me over 9 hours to go from Kiev to Odessa, so it may be closer to 14 to crimea( if going to south coast).
First Class LMAO!!! This ain't Kansas Dorothy!!!Forget the trains.
For the Price it's better to fly to Sevestopal and take a cab to your destination. Less time, more time to enjoy Crimea
The ONLY time to take a First Class train ride from anywhere to anywhere in Ukraine is when you are in the company of a Beautiful lady and you BOTH would rather spend time with each other, cuddling, watching the scenery go by, drinking wine etc., etc., than doing anything else in the world.
That happened to be the case last year when we went to Crimea. And it also happened to be the case when we went from Kiev to Mariupol and from Kiev to Lviv last January.
If you are going to Crimea exclusively to see Crimea - and exclusively ALONE (as in - afraid to fly between the two areas), then I agree with nasfan's point.
They may fly some old planes in Ukraine - but I would much sooner fly in a plane ALONE than to travel by train, alone.
And nasfans point about flying is about the same as a ticket in a first class berth is spot on too.
If you want to travel cheap - you can take a train from Kiev to Crimea in third class for around $35 - which is a lot cheaper than flying of course.
Personally I would NEVER travel third class on a train - in hot stinking (no air conditioning) over crammed cars with no assigned seats. Peolpe laying every which way - trying to sleep - with feet literally in everyone else's face. NOT FOR ME. Walking THROUGH the third class car - while I was traveling first class - was enough for me.
Jet I just couldn't do trains in Ukraine, but that's just my opinion and feeling towards those rat traps. I saw the economy class you're talking about when we went to pick up Larisas Mom in Donetsk after she flew in to Kiev from Zurich. The Planes in Ukraine make her mother nervous.
They don't bother me too much. She'll fly from Kiev to Zurich/Zurich to Kiev but it stops at Borispol.
I understand doing a train to see the country unless you're on a night runner. When we went to Crimea we did a taxi to Yalta from Mariupol. Interesting to see the country side and how the people live out there. It was Amazing. no towns for miles and houses popping up in the middle of nowhere. Reminded me of the first time I went to visit a friend in Ridgecrest CA. They just dropped a town and a Walmart in the middle of the desert.
Honestly, when I wrote my post above, the REASON I kept refering to going to "Crimea" instead of of specifying "Simferopol" or "Sevestopol" was that I couldn't remember which was which. And I didn't feel like looking it up.
I could never get the 2 confused, cause i flew into one and was not impressed with other, called it battleship harbour, not much of a city, just narrow and winding with the seashore line...couldn't wait to get to Yalta and Alushta.
Have to agree with Jet I really like the train travelling.
The scenery on the way can be enjoyable too and I experienced the Carpatian mountains this way.
And the fact theres food and beverages only makes it better! I usually bring a good book with me as well.
I ve considered trains a couple of times but most travel at night so dont see much scenery and they get in early morning so you have to either pay for a nights accommodation to book in early or drag luggage around waiting to book in.
Take the train or consider a chauffer driven car where you can travel, see scenery and be dropped at doorstep at destination. For two people cost is not that much more expensive than plan when you factor cost to get to and from airport.
I'm a train nut and have asked about this topic before on other boards.
What I'm hearing is consistant with what I've heard before: cramp, smelly, hard to navigate the ticket process, etc. Although I'm told if you can get a first class car it's a nice way to go with your lady.
One other thing was to avoid the seats next to the bathroom as the the overflow wasn't pleasant.
