Applied for family reunion visa 2 weeks ago and due to collect it next week. Ive been ringing Visa department here all day Friday and no answer. Obviously very busy and wont answer the phone. If anyone knows these answers it would be helpful. Once my wife gets her Visa can she travel to any Eu country with me ?does she need me to be with her to travel? The reason being as she is still studying her Lecturers (whom I met) said they would send her what ever papers they were doing and she can just go and do the exams when they come up and it would be handy for me if she could go on her own. The closest airport is in Hungary which is also part of the Eu.
Having talked to one Irish guy married to a Ukranian he told me he needs to travel with his wife whenever she goes and I was wondering if he was correct.
This is correct you need to travel with her. BUT even this is not so clear cut, as I don't believe everyone knows the rules and I've heard of people having trouble upon arrival in another country. If a Ukrainian turns up in the UK with a visa for Latvia I don't think they'll be allowed in. I never tried myself and if it was me I'd get her to apply for a visa to Hungry just in case.
Its a bit annoying all right, thatd I have to fly over then travel by train to bring her back each time and then the same to bring her over. I guess Id have to check with the Hungarian embassy and see what they suggest.
Having researched abit in relation to the Visa and contacted both the Slovakian embassy and the Hungarian embassy this is what I was told. All countries in Europe are part of the Schengen zone.
This is except for Great Britain and Ireland with a Schengen visa you can travel to any European country except for Ireland and Great Britain. Ireland didnt join because we have a border agreement with the Uk because of Northern Ireland and if we joined the Schengen zone the Uk would have to setup border controls with Ireland in the northern part.
Basically I was told that if I applied for a Visa for my wife for any Eu country there would be no problem once she has her Irish Visa and there would be only a short wait involved because of the circumstance.
Colin,
Do not confuse yourself between Europe and European Union, for instance the former Yugoslavia countries are not schengen, nor are Turkey, Switzerland and Norway all of which are non-EU European countries. Also I don't think Romania and Bulgaria might yet be schengen.
Hi Colin, yes this is basically true. Although not all countries, ie Romania, Bulgaria, Switzerland and Liecthenstien (all to join in the future). Also non EU countries aren't included. But from your point of view its one visa for Schengen countries so its not to bad but still a pain. Sorry I missed your post Colin. We never traveled to any European countries, but did travel to NZ. I like to just go and not have to plan trips months on advance so it put me off any travel to Europe with my wife. I still beleive you can travel with her and she does need a visa under EU law.
Colin, did I understand well , Did your wife get a family reunion visa in only 2 weeks? I'm asking cause I'll be marrying in Ukraine in October and we don't know what to expect as the timeline for this visa to EU...
no took longer than 2 weeks letters and photos were requested after 2 weeks, having talking to the people in the embassy it can vary depending how busy they are.
month and a half, but there is no irish embassy in the Ukraine just a consulate covered by Czech Republic, so all papers have to be forwarded to Moscow which adds time.
