Part B What I noticed right from the first day I was in Odessa is how nicely dressed and how slender and in good physical shape all the women were in spite of the low incomes. Everywhere! Beautiful women! One instance comes to mind about my trip there…. Elena and I met her cousin at McDonald’s for lunch one day. Her cousin brought her boyfriend with her. Her cousin was also beautiful and very polite. Her boyfriend was from Greece and was working there in Odessa on contract for one of the Black Sea shipping companies and he spoke very good English so he was good company to talk to. His name was Marcus and I’ll never forget something he told me that has always stuck in my mind. He said…. “You should not tell anyone about all the beautiful women I you see here in Odessa. If you spread around about all these women….Odessa will become infested with other men from all over the world…it will be our secret”. I immediately thought to myself as I heard this ridiculous statement spewing from this idiot’s mouth….”If you think that I am the only man in the world who has their sights on meeting these women, you are crazy!” So during the course of my week's stay in Odessa during the winter of 98 , Elena was very good company and a great guide and she looked out for my interest...never letting me get in a situation to be compromised by someone wanting to take advantage of me. We went to museums ,shopping , to a few inexpensive restaurants...at that time, the Opera House was under renovations. To be honest, Odessa in 1998 looked run down and in desperate need of repair. Many things were outdated, broke, in a shambles or obsolete. But these people had the mentality of McGuiver...if something didn't work, they just worked around it and kept moving forward. Back to the future.... I recently returned to Odessa in spring of 2008 and wasn't surprised to see that many things had changed in the ten years since my first visit there. The western influence now dominates this city...McDonalds is still there on Derobsovskaya street but now there all over Odessa. The people have changed entirely! I felt like a target the whole time I was there...it seemed every girl there was simply out to take advantage of the westerner. I was surprised to learn about how many American men now live in Odessa...you can find them lounging at the Irish Pub. I was disappointed that the innocence that I first experienced there in 1998 is long gone and you still see the beautiful women everywhere but they have little interest in Western men...with or without money/looks/success....those days are gone....their economy is good(not great but not so bad)...why would they want to leave their friends and families and possessions? The women are still slender but they now dress in jeans and wear clothes that are not as stylish as when I was there in 98. Many new restaurants there…new businesses of all kinds...clubs there like many you would find in the States. Wow! Inflation hit this city hard! Just as expensive in Odessa now as in the states and in many respects...more expensive. In 98, you could rent a nice apartment for 25 dollars per night...this same apartment will cost you 80 dollars per night. There is lots of Russian oil money now in Odessa....it's corrupt and demoralizing. I met some girls on my second visit to Odessa but their attitudes were smug and indifferent. If you allow them, they will spend every last cent you have and spit you out like a bitter seed. One girl I met wanted to run up a big restaurant bill on me with the 40 dollar sushi for her and her friend and 3 or 4 drinks for each of them....a little trip to the toilet and out the door fixed that! They are very clever! They work in teams to part you from your money. I might be American but I didn't leave my brain at the airport :-) Something very interesting....One day during my recent visit, I was sitting there outside the Irish pub cafe drinking a beer with some of the local Americans who loved in Odessa and we had a big laugh at a group of men who came there for the Anastasia.com Social event given in Odessa 3 or 4 times per year. It was funny to listen to them talk about this girl they met and that girl they me and hot she was and how much money it cost them to take her out for dinner. It was funny buy at the same time, these were my fellow Americans and I couldn't help but feel sympathy because they were oblivious to what everyone on Odessa already knew...Anastasia.com is the biggest Con artist on the internet and in Ukraine. I met several women during my recent stay in Odessa who worked as professional letter writers for these "Profiles" of beautiful girls on their site. They all told me what I had already known, 90% of these girls don't write for themselves...one woman who worked for them told me the majority of girls in Odessa have very little interest to move away from their homeland and these letters are all replied to from some office in Odessa like an assembly line. …Buyers beware! No need to ever return to Odessa tp find a nice woman….You are more likely to find a descent, beautiful , woman with good morals and integrity at a cock fight. In conclusion... Ukraine is a treasure trove of beautiful women and can be a fun place to visit....If you're going there to find the woman of your dreams...Good luck! You are going to need it! Times have changed and the innocence is gone. I can only see from a 2 year period and see prices going up but I think that is everywhere in the world. I've never set foot in the Irish Pub on Deribasovskaya. Don't agree on walking out on girls for food tab, you got into you own mess, pay your way out of it. Glad you gave americans a good name!! As far as having sympathy for guys who strike out or used, its part of the risk, no one put a gun to anybodys head. I don't know how much anastasia is a con artist, I personally never experienced what you speak of, every girl I have met was well aware of content of letters, right down to facts about work and family. What I find intereting, guys speak here of what they were told.... about how 'boris's' or 'letter writers' do all letter writing for girls, well, I do wonder how accurate those facts are. Doesn't make sense to cut off the arm that is feeding you. If you want to meet girls, best way is through friends that live there. You are looked upon as being part of a group as opposed to a foreigner.. Maybe they are more genuine. Certainly takes away meeting girls that are in agencies. I recently was in a similar situation last month in Kiev. I asked my date and our interpreter to go to dinner and we happened to go with three other American guys and their dates. Anyhow when we arrived at the restaurant (very expensive place) Four more "girls" show up and set at our table for 8. I saw what was happening and proclamed to everyone that I was here to pay for my date and the interpreter and not for anyone else. The other three Americans also saw what was happening and they left. Then the four female Ukraine freeloaders left (they needed their asses kicked for trying that shit). Afterwards I had a good dinner and a nice evening of dancing. Oh ya... the freeloaders were just... typical Kiev girls trying to get over on any guy they can... must be something in the water to make most all of these Kiev bitches try their petty scams on everyone around them. Ukraine women... watch out and take from them for what you can before they take from you! Take my advice... tell them you love them, take them to a nice dinner and then use their bodies afterwards... leave them and marry a nice woman from a respectable Country. I happened to be sitting by myself at that restaurnat and didn't ask for the company of those two girls and I knew right away what they were going to try. For the record, my bar tab had already been paid for...so walking out on them wasn't like I dined and dashed on the restaurant. Just leaving those scammers to fend for themselves. My date got a call from her girlfriend who wanted to join us, I said no. She then said it was too late because she already invited her and that she was not going to eat. 10 minutes later she showed up completely drunk. She started drinking congac, got even drunker and became very loud. I was embaressed since everybody was looking at us. I asked to leave and paid the check. Outside they wanted to go dancing, I simply said no and put them both in a taxi and left. No need to run, just say no!!! And you were looking for a woman who though 11 years younger than you, was ALSO in peak phyical condition. Whats more you are either greying or possibly bald, and bviously a bit cynical with the world - yet I bet I bet you were looking at women in their prime again. You are simply now batting out of your league. A LOT of average aging American guys go to EU and expect beautiful 18 or 21 year olds to fall for them. It doesn't happen. Regarding Odessa itself - it only received its independence in 1991 - it suffered terribly when Russia had an economic collapse in 1998 as its economy was still so dependent. Today Ukraine is on the fringe of becoming a real European economy (I DID say "on the fringe"). Did you EXPECT to see devestation still waiting for you? I went to Odessa for the first time in 2003. The wrecked planes were no longer on the tarmack (must have fianlly moved them) but I remember the airport being much as you mention. There were also machine-gun toting customs officers who questioned everything I brought in and though I didn't have to pay to bring anything into the country several other guys I saw did. some costume jewelry I had LOOKED real enough until I produced a receipt and showed them its had much less value than they imagined. I've not been back to Odessa recently - but I have been to Kiev, (4 times in the last two years) Donetsk, Mariupol, Lviv and Yalta. ALL of these places seem to be ding considerably better than Odessa was in 2003 - so I am SURE Odessa has changed. He loves it when poor destitude women in falling apart countries do their best for him - with nothing expected in return. But when a NORMAL woman from a becoming-more-prosperous country goes out to dinner with him, if she DOESN'T order from the cheapest part of the menu (maybe if she had ordered just an appetizer or something from the kiddie menu he might have been happy) he goes to the bathroom and SNEAKS OUT THE DOOR! And you can see that he has personality (anger management?) problems from the responses he writes when someone critisizes him. When I go to Ukraine - I have live that down! I constantly hear stories of rude, misfit, socially uncouth guys with ridiculous expectations coming to Ukraine looking for something-for-nothing, and they wonder if we (westerners) are ALL like that.
