Hi All. Ok so I'm thinking about a trip to Ukraine early in the new year and understand that I need an invitation etc to get a visitor's Visa. I'm In Canada so do I need to go in person to the Embassy to get the Visa or can it be done by mail or courier or something of the sort? The Ukraine Embassy here is in Ottawa and I'm wayyyy out in the western boondocks of the country. Olga perhaps you might have an answer or be able to point me in the right direction? Anyone one else that can provide some light on this?
The 'Invite' you can obtain via the internet, use any SE to find site's. Choose a site you think is a reputable one, or, if you've already got a hotelbooking, ask them if they can help (preferred). And yes, you'll have to pay for this, in fact this seems the whole object of these 'invite's', the red-tape of the 'responsibility' is rubbish anyway.
Regarding a visit in person to your Embassy - phone them, you'll have to abide by their rules anyway. I'm sure that by courier you'll be able to work something out, but you'll need this invite before you apply for the visa.
'Fake' invite's do exist, if in doubt - contact the embassy beforehand.
And enjoy your visit - you have a date or are you going to cold-canvass?

If you are going to visit definite lady, the most convenient way will be to arrange it via her agency.Usually all dating agencies provide this service.Thats the best way because they can book you a hotel as well. We can arrange it too, but we need to know where exactly you are going to go.

Thanks for the info, I'll phone the Ukraine Embassy in Canada and get the details. I do agree that the "invite" seems to be a little out there to begin with. I may cold-canvass a little but I have narrowed it down to about 3 women I'm interested in, 2 in Ukraine and 1 in Russia. Not sure how I'll manage meeting them all in one trip yet, lol...maybe if I win the lotto? Btw, one of the ladies lives in Lugansk. Yeah yeah, I know scam capital and all that. But So far she has passed all of my tests. Does not want money in any way shape or form, has answered every single question from my letters AND has been checked out by an independant service to be who she says she is. So will see what happens there.

Again thanks for the info and will definitely give your company a shot at my business when I finally decide on the dates and where. Your company does run a quality site here, my thanks!!
A train ticket between Ukraine and Russia shouldn't be that much money, no? PLus it will be a nice ride, get to see some countryside, maybe make a "friend" on the train! Ever see the movie "Silver Streak"? Ha! If you are going to do a little cold canvassing, might as well do it right, and see as much of the countryside as possible while at it.
Ya know, that's something I hadn't even thought of! That's an idea I'll certainly look into thanks for passing it along. Who knows maybe by the time I get there I'll have it narrowed down to one girl. But a little cold canvass can't hurt any!
Nah, go knocking on doors, have a few business cards printed up in russian, maybe with a rose and have it say "My love is like a red, red rose, and I am a little thorny". See what happens! Who knows!
About the train ride in Ukraine. Make sure you purchase enough entry visa's to return back to where you started. I got kicked off the train when returning to Ukraine from Poland because I didn't have a multiple entry visa. This caused a nine hour train ride back to Warsaw and a full weekend waiting for the Embassy to open on Monday. Generating an extra $300.00 for taxi's, hotel, visa and a return train ride to Odessa.
Not this time! They separated me and my girlfriend. Placed me under guard for about two hours. Told her to leave me and return home because I was illegal. Luckily she knew all her rights and pushed for release. We were then placed on a train back to Warsaw. This was the second time I'd been detained in Ukraine.
