Just a question, would anyone happen to have, or guess at statistics of how many women who meet men here actually end up marrying? Stats of how many men actually travel to visit their ladies, and how many of those get married? I think it would be interesting to find out
A few months ago, I read on a another dating site that only about 5% of men who correspond with women from FSU end up making the trip. Most lonely men are looking for communication, but when they realize the magnitude of the undertaking, they give up. I don't know how many online friendships end up in marriage. My gut feeling is that the majority of men who make the trip either get married or if things don't work out, they have the motiv to repeat the effort. Once you're there, you're hooked.
wtrav, I can see the magnitude, when I first started this, I thought "cool, ok, meet someone, visit, etc.". I had no knowlege of immigration, or visas, etc. I figured Russia is an ally now, and there shoul dbe no problem. The US government leads us to believe that USA is still a welcoming country. In fact, at teh US Embassy in Moscow's web page, they say that 95% of tourist visas to the USA are approved! ANyway, when I find out about how difficult it is, and the hoops to jump through, I was ready to give up myselfHowever I figured that nothing worthwhile is easy, and it is better to go through a problem now, see how we handle it together, so I will know what to do when other problems come up in the future. I am glad it is not easy, I am learning so many things about myself, and about our government, as well as the Russian and Ukrainian governments. Sometimes I think like I want to live there! The interest off my savings account is heck of a lot more than the average wage there, so the idea of retiring to Russia or Ukraine has crossed my mind, but, well, no American cable tv! Ha! Can't live without Survivor or CSI: Miami!
Visas are a tricky thing, everything has to be 100% in order. For a fiance visa, you must meet in person, and take many pictures in outside reconizable places, such as famous landmarks, etc. Tourist visa is impossible for a woman to get to vist USA. DV-2005 is a 1 in 160 shot (but very easy to apply for). My advice is to meet someone first, see how it works out. Go to her country and visit. See how it goes, If it goes well, and she is willing to go for the fiance visa, then I would hire a lawyer that specialises in K-1 and Fiance visas. I know of one that has a 100% approval rate. The extra money spent will be well worth it. If she is a student, she can get the J-6 visa, which would allow her to come to the USA (I am assuming you are American) this summer to work as a summer camp counsleor (but the visa is good till october).
