I will be visiting Crimea (don't know which city yet) in 3 to 4 weeks and I need some advise on the best way to get there from Odessa (I assume Odessa would be the airport to fly into and not Kiev) I wish I had more information on the exact city in Crimea but we (my next victim) have just decided on the meeting. I hear there are trains (many hours of travel) taxies (around $300 usd) and even some ships will shuttle you from Odessa. Does anyone have any "constructive" information they could share with me?
I thought the trains were fun, even though they took many hours. We took a train from Kiev to Simferopol and then a taxi to Yalta. I let my gf negotiate the taxi ride. From Simferopol to Yalta was $30 USD. I saw in another thread that someone paid much more than that. On the way back from Yalta to Simferopol, we took a bus. I believe, that was 25 UAH a piece, although I don't really remember.
My advice is let a Ukrainian negotiate the taxi ride and stay out of sight.
Do you remember the cost (and travel time) from Kiev to Simferopol? I'm finding flights to Kiev are about $200 usd cheaper than flying into Odessa for some reason.
Mini...if I was you I would fly out of Kiev to Simferopol, it is quoted at $28+tax(?) and takes
about 1.5 hours....I checked and found it $76 roundtrip...arrange taxi to take you to your city, be it sevastapol, yalta or alushta...........contact Chris, he is in sevastapol and can help you if needed.....good luck...I presume another sex-capade
You must have taken the bullet train, it took me almost 10 hours to get from kiev to odessa.
Was that 2nd class RB, I paid $30 for 2nd class but it was bought for me so real price was a little less.
RB that is twice you were pickpocketed that I know of....you are marked guy, a foreigner seen from far away...I have never even been close to anything like that........
We could have taken the same train, depending on train routes. Odessa is closer to Kiev than Simferopol. I have the ticket in front of me, but it's in Russian. I can only understand the price of 139.93 UAH. It was bought for me also. My gf did not have patience waiting in line, so she paid 180 UAH for this.
No. I got pickpocketed once. It was before the train ride to Simferopol in Kiev. It was on a crowded subway. I remember getting pushed from behind. When I was going up the escalator from the subway, my camera and wallet were gone. I had to call the US to have someone send me a Moneygram to complete my trip.
Rb...quoting in UAH only means something depending on the date, when I started this, it was 5.08 and has mostly gone up through the years, only recently has the foreign currencies make it a real bargain.
No we would not have taken same train because mine ended odessa, literally the tracks end in odessa, only way out is reverse. You must have gone through nikolaev and kherson on way. Gee RB, you think odessa is closer to kiev than simferopol? :-)) So you have your train ticket in front of you RB?..how do you know it is in russian??? Mine is mostly in ukrainian!
Sorry RB, I remember your story about being pickpocketed from before.
I'm looking at a map and Odessa is closer than Simferopol to Kiev. Like I said, it could depend on how tracks are laid out. I don't remember passing through Kherson, but I do remember Melitopol, Zaporozhye and Dnepropestrovsk.
You got me there. I don't know whether it's Ukrainian or Russian.
So, if you have the smiles, you are not telling the truth? How did you get the mileage? I have not been able to locate mileage, and measuring the map is not accurate.
Normally its cheaper to fly into Kiev than Odessa,
If you fly via Turkish airlines you can fly directly into Simferopol,
From Kiev wizz air are cheap if you book well in advance and dont have a lot of Luggage,
There are no direct flights between Odessa and Simferopol this time of year ( very few in the summer )
the ferry's have not run for about 4 years now, the only way between Odessa and Simferopol is by bus or train both very cheap and takes around 12 hours !
Taxi used to be about $250 - $300 but will be a lot less due to the exchange rates now,
compared to last summer everything is cheaper last July dollar was 4.6 Hrn ,now its 8.2
This time of year Yalta is very quite, nice place to go for a day or 2 and always expensive compared to anywhere else, Apts in Sevastopol are around $30 - $40 a night for a good one this time of year, Yalta a simular price,
Simferopol is a run down dump road are bad drivers are bad even by Ukraine standards, and the road police are on a different planet !
If you can speak Russian and know how to haggle you should get a taxi to Yalta or Sevastopol for about $40,maybe slightly less if you fall lucky,
