I am planning a trip this week, and I am a bit concerned about the unrest that is occurring in the Ukraine. Does anyone have news from within Ukraine on what is actually happening?
I just arrived back in the states after spending 10 days in the UKR. We traveled to many locales including Yalta (gorgeous location).
The main problem was (and is) the global crisis and the currencies exchange rate having massive day t day changes. I personally saw zero protests and had no real problems.
Like anywhere be careful, but the "violence" and "protests" taht are reported seemed to be isolated to small groups who want the "good old days" of the Soviet Union. Personally I think the press coverage was overblown.
I live in Odessa and the only unrest that I have heard about is that some truck drivers blocked the main road from Odessa to Kiev one day as a protest. My friend who lives a bit outside the city had to take another route home.
Other than that, there is no evidence here of any unrest. A lot of people are having economic problems, however, so watch out for pickpockets and girls who will ask you for money.
