What do I need to know? Most FSU women using the dating agencies, I would assume have a cell phone or landline for everyday communication. Is it expensive for the women? Age or finances comes into play as well; if they are younger, they may not like the charges incurred on the regular basis. For my side, I understand that calling cards or skype is available, but since phone conversations are more powerful, it is better to pay for them compared to giving money to the agency. Further, I know that there are some websites that offer the service of purchasing goods for the ladies, but once the women have minutes, you are no longer in control of how she uses them. [1] Receiving an international call on a landline is free for FSU phones, so for you to call her is no cost to her. [2] With mobile phones, it depends on the plan. In Russia at least, the mobile carriers offer many choices (probably at least 25-30 options if you consider the number of mobile companies). Depending on the plan, an incoming international call could be: free, fairly reasonable, or ruinously expensive. I learned the last bit the hard way, when I called a woman who was very upset, saying that the cost of my call was something like 2-4 hours of her work (she didn't ask me for money, she was just really upset). Also, there may be mobile plans that aren't able to receive international calls at all. So if you want to call her on a mobile ... check with her first! [3] The sound may not be very clear. There can be really long speech delays. She probably speaks English poorly, or if not, with a heavy accent. Understanding your English may be difficult for her. So to begin at least, remember to take it slow, use simple words and especially simple sentence structure, and don't expect to communicate very much per minute of phone time. [4] If she doesn't live alone, be prepared that someone who speaks no English may answer the phone. You might want to learn a Russian phrase or two for this situation. [5] I think you are sensible to worry about buying her minutes. Is it expensive for the women? "No, do not think that you need to subsidize their cost especially if you call them." Nothing compares to Skype, when you can talk AND SEE the person. It is almost like being there. With the phone you can not see facial expressions or see hand gestures, etc. IMO Skype is the best. For my lady, I have WiFi at home and I fire up my laptop with webcam and walk around the house and outside to give her live video feed with commentary. She does the same using her long webcam cord in her apartment." The best is start a corredpondance with a woman, then ask for her phone number. Call her. Ask for her address; send a letter with photos, all the while emailing like crazy. Then upgrade if she can to Skype." It costs nothing for them to receive calls, despite what some might say to the contrary, do not expect her to call you, it is beyond their budget, you call her but there are plenty of cheap international calling plans whereas you can call for a few cents (ish) per minute. Don't bother trying a 3 way, or even 2 way, conversation via an agency at whatever extortionate rate they may charge, you'll more likely than not be paying $$$ per minute to talk to a grandmother, or similar, pretencing to be your lady. Yes you are right. You must understand that these women WILL have "millions of men" corresponding to them. You should expect that and not be deterred by that fact. Any thoughts on the right ways to attain success? You should be yourself. Your profile should be interesting, you yourself should be interesting, you should have many good photos of yourself including many in everyday situations, your introduction letter should be interesting and unique such that it stands out above all of the millions of other letters she is receiving. You need to be yourself, be honest with her, be honest with yourself. There are many posters on this forum who state that they are only into it for the trips to the FSU, to have a beauty on their arm, to get lucky, and have not real intentions of being serious. They do well and attract similar women. There are very real women out there. You also must understand what age group you will have the most success with if you do have real intentions of marriage, creating a happy family, and living the rest of your life with a remarkable woman in the most intense relationship that you have ever had. It is said that only 5% of letter writers will fork out to travel to the lady(s), well obviously somewhere between 5% and 100% of men will actually fork out to make costly (particularly if they don't know of the cheap calling plans) phone calls to lady(s) so the guy that actually makes the phone calls should move up the lady's ladder quite significantly. It's come to my attention that the title could be better, such as replacing phone conversations with communications. What would complete the thread is info on internet usage, but that seems to be less of a consideration, compared to making the phone calls. http://www.internetworldstats.com/euro/ua.htm - That site indicates that market penetration is 12.1% and gets into broadband usage. The site from http://www.tryukraine.com/info/faq.shtml states: "What are typical prices at Internet cafes in Ukraine? Usually between 4 and 6 UAH per hour (around $1 USD). The central post office in Kyiv charges 10 UAH, and prices are much higher at the Kyiv Boryspil airport. Internet speed may be slow at many Internet cafes, which are mostly used by local boys for computer games." So for one hour of internet access each day for 365 times a year, a woman emailing you seems reasonable. Some of the info may not be right, so feel free to comment. My killer intro letter immediately attracted the attention of a handfull of women. While beginning my correspondence with them, within a month's time, I was corresponding with about 12 at the maximum. Then I began to whittle them down to about 5 that I continued to correspond with. Some had internet at their home (apartment) the remainder had to use an Internet Cafe. Obviously those with internet at home, allowed for more and longer emails (and photo exchanges). Within four weeks, I had phone numbers and began calling them. I use a Cloncom calling card. With two I quickly upgraded to Skype sessions. By the end of two months, my Alla and I simultansously decided that we were very attracted to each other. We agreed to meet and we both began to correspond exclusively with each other. To tell our story so far, we met in Kiev in February, our expectations were exceeded with each other, I proposed, she accepted, now we await our K-1 petition approval. Remember that the real ladies live very busy lives, living, and do not have a lot of time to visit the Internet Cafe. So you have to be more patient with them. What worked for me was I'd write long letters to them and they would respond back with shorter. Some also have to use a translation program, so that takes time at the cafe. For those I eventually told them to just write to me in Russian and I'd translate. That worked for all but one who was very insistent to write to me only in English (how would she ever learn if I allowed her to write in Russian).
