ok how about this one, she is from Lugansk and meeting her in Kiev for first time I arranged to buy her flights tickets and send etickets $200 roundtrip to her email so she can use it to fly to kiev but she replied that she have fear of flying... so what mode of travel do u prefer I asked she replied "well the husband of my best friend can drive me there $400 round trip" I didnt really want to fork out extra $200 for a fear of flying so I said how about taking the train? how much? she replied about $200 troundtrip, so I said i'll book train fare online for her and send her ticket in the post. (checked the train fare from online booking and it was $156 roundtrip but this is not too bad difference from price she quoted me so i'm cool with it) But she didnt want this she asked me to send her $200 by western union so she could buy train ticket herself. She said this is much better..then alarm bells started ringing as first rule of internet dating hits the mind (NEVER SEND MONEY UNLESS YOU HAVE ALREADY MET THE GIRL)I didnt want upset her by saying I can't send you money incase you're a scammer so I came up with idea that I had problems sending her the train fare with western union but I can book and pay online for her and she will receive the ticket in post within 14days (this means our meeting will be delayed by 2 weeks) Below is xtract from her reply "I didn't really understand what have you meant with your sms.Please explaine what problems you can have with western union? It is very easy servey. I just don't want to wait our meeting for so long now!!!I have planned everything in my mind or these few days!I wish to meet you now!!when you have written me that you plan everything on 8th of May i was so happy!I don't want to wait for so long!!I won't take it)) Please tell me what is wrong....Does it really easier for you to book tickets by the internet and dely our meeting then just allow me to do everyhting myself?.....for me it will take few hours to go to western union and then go to railway station and buy the tickets. I don't understand why we need all these problems? i will wait for your reply!!I want to meet you as soon as possible so much!!!! send you many kisses yours XXXX" Now i'm thinking in my mind what if I send her $200 by western union and she pocketed the money and not bothered to buy the train fare and on day of meeting in kiev she didnt show up. But then I can probably afford to take the chance and lose $200 if she is a scammer but what if she had another 10 men lined up for this type of trip and she demanded $200 from each of them without intention of ver showing up That is a whooping $2,000 she will rake in probably within a month That is why i'm sticking with the golden rule that said Rule1: NEVER SEND MONEY Rule2: NEVER SEND MONEY Rule3: NEVER SEND MONEY Those anyone think i'm being unreasonable or too over cautious? How can I xplain to her I don't want to send her money until we have met and established a proper relationship without offending her if she is genuine?

tell her that you are perpared 1000$ to send her via WU, but you need 100$ to clear check that you have. so ask her to send you $100 WU asap. so you can send her $1000 immidiately:)

You just have to stick by your guns and if she doesn't want to play by the rules, then let her go. You are the man and it is customary in Russian culture for the man to be assertive and handle all the finances. Just tell her that you are not sending money to her. Period. No need to mention scammer or anything else. "No my dear I will not send you a western union." That is all you need to say. Nothing more. Also you can offer to meet her in her city instead of Kiev, if she won't budge. You can fly into Kiev and then take the train yourself, pick her up and then both of you take the train to Kiev. You can say you are worried about her travelling by herself. Move to this tactic and see how it plays out. I'm thinking her real self will be revealed. Be prepared to move on.

Olga is right. Your rules 1, 2 and 3 are ironclad. Apart from everything else, $400 for "her friend's husband" to drive her is, in Harry S Truman's memorable words, "100% bulls**t". (By the way, this is the same amount that was needed for "a taxi from Nikolaev" in another recent thread. Suspicious, hmmm?) Here's another clue: a decent girl would probably tell you, "I need $160," or "I need UAH 1150," or whatever. She wouldn't conveniently round up to the nearest 100! IMO, your best bet is to break off communication. Do you still think she could be for real? If you can't bring yourself to do this, and you feel the need to explain ... I might say, "I handle money responsibly and with care. That's one of the things about me, that will make me a good husband." But seriously, keep looking. EVERYBODY will advise you, on the first internet request for cash, bail out!

yea Durak, trying to get family member or probably her lover to gain from my visit as a driver with a $400 taxi fare doesn't sound like an honest lady. I said to her your fear of flying, how about if you have to visit me in my own country, you will need to fly then. she said she probably will when that time arrives. even if she eventually agree for me to book train ticket for her online, she will prob receive it but won't turn up. It will cost her nothing but it will cost me $$$$ travelling and waiting in kiev for my love to arrive I'll just break off communication with her now as durak suggested as I can't afford to be scammed in this credit crunch time :)

Your being scammed no question. The fear of flying thing is almost certainly bullshit. Cost of internal train tickets is like $15 dollars each way between almost any two cities in Ukraine. Quite possibly she actually lives in kiev already. Tell her you've changed your mind and want to travel to her home city, call her bluff, but the whole thing reeks really. Move on.

I don't understand Olga's response. She will probably not come up with $100 which would mean the relationship is over. Why not just tell her the relationship is over? If she does come up with $100, are you prepared to send her $1,000?

RB, I'm guessing Olga is demonstrating another old scam like the Nigerian banker scam. i.e., "You send me a $1000 processing fee and I'll send you the $15 million."

I did make the connection, but $1,000 is a small amount for this scam. I reply to those people and sometimes they reply back with vulgarity. If they are proud and name themselves as a Muslim, or a Christian, I tell them that they are giving their religion a bad name. That sometimes set them off.

Boy, I tell you what, I've been tempted to send money...for a sports school for a daughter...for a laptop to better communicate with me...for a ticket to meet me...for travel arrangements and accommodations...I'm a pretty easy touch (I should fill out IRS forms for the homeless on my street corner) BUT do not send monies to FSU gals!!

10 guys @ $200 per month = $2000 ROFL. Minimum of 30 on a string at any one time. This is a career, not a hobby. How�s it feel to be a component on an assembly line? BTW 20 bucks will get your from Lughanskterville to Kiev most any time. I like the way Boris is thinking, he is working on the 9 + 1 profit margin model. He buys for 1 and sells for 10, therefore he has made 9 + the 1 he never paid for in the first place. The comrades of old never imagined capitalism could be so rewarding. You might like to consider the bunch who were operating up until a few years ago in another eastern city. Quite a group. 30 girls working for them for a dime an hour, doing the whole web cam, chat and letter thing with any wanker who came online and they were raking a take of (Reported) $125-$150 USD per minute 24/7 at their peak. Apparently they raked around 30 million over a fairly short time. Pity they are now doing time in the Gulags. Life can be a bitch when it goes sour. Always visit her on her home turf first up. She doesn�t want to, give her the flick.

Why are they in the Gulags, Dunromin? Because they are scammers? One surprising thing about FSU scammers to me are the agencies are involved. I would think that the government would regulate it against the scammers to build a better business environment and get a good name. Yet, I haven't seen any examples anything being done by the government or the websites involved.

RB: How can you regulate against idiots (Foreign men sending money), particularly when they are outside your national jurisdiction? More importantly, Russia and other FSU countries have been cash short for who knows how long (Although that has changed somewhat of recent years) and cash coming straight into the country with zero resource cost will ultimately be spent in the country, therefore there is certainly no initial harm to the economy. Longer term image and reputation you ask? I agree but. The but is you are starting to see eastern thinking, which is all about living and surviving for today. No thought to the long term. Why was the group jailed? As I understand it, there was a fair amount of pressure applied by a few foreign embassies who had apparently received the sob stories from the suckers. However, I suspect the real reason was the group didn�t pay it�s dues in a timely fashion to the pockets who really call the shots. What was more interesting to me from the snips of information I read and heard was there was no clear statement as to whether or not the operation was actually shut down, I understand the majority if not all of the group was jailed but no mention as to what happened to the building, PC�s, staff and so on. Now state assets? A few years ago, a friend (whom I tried and tried to advise otherwise) sent money to Boris in my wife�s home city. He came crying to me a few K poorer and we did do some investigation for him. When �friends� of ours who are no shrinking violets went to check it all out, they came back very cautious and advised �Stay away for this, it is very not pleasant�. I caught the clue that it was well organised and very well protected on several levels. What staggers me is that people seem to think they are dealing one on one with some honey who might be a bit short of a dime. Rarely is this the case, although I am sure they exist but for the most part it is an organised and controlled industry. Just because they don�t speak English, doesn�t mean they are not way smarter than many punters. They are very well organised businesses, corrupt to the core but clearly well organised and well run for the most part as they continue to survive despite the information available to the punters.

It is not really a scam..the guy does get some nice words from a girl, which he wouldn't get at home, for a few grand...they both get something out of it.
