about how much does it cost for a russian to fly to dominican republic for a week?
also, has anybody purchased flights for their girlfriend via expedia or similar website? i am about to do this, but am a little apprehensive. specifically i will be purchasing an aeroflot flight via expedia.
Beem....we decided on the hotel, Excellence at Punta Cana. No excursions, takes a long time to reach activities. Just sun, sand and spa treatments.
I did get a private car from the airport to the hotel. When I made reservations, I asked what kind of car would take me to the hotel.
I was told a "town car." That sounded good to me but the town car ended up to be a '86 Camry! Oh well, the air was cold. It takes an hour to get to the hotel.
Roads are half good and half bad. There were some nice, modern buses to be used but I think they made stops to different resorts along the way.
Being all inclusive, I did not expect 5 star food. No complaints about the food. 10 bars and 8 restaurants. Whenever there was a "catch of the day," I selected it
and it was very good. Had some great grouper and sea bass. I did not have any language problems. Menus, hotel signs and all hotel staff have some English.
I was happy about the communication between me and my girlfriend. My Russian is about a 5 and her English is about the same. We had a lot of fun talking to each
other. If you decide to marry there, be sure to verify if you want a legal wedding or a symbolic wedding. If you want a legal wedding, you need copies of your
passports, your birth certificates and your divorce decrees. You must have these documents translated into Spanish.
In the summer, it is hot! Even if the temp is 90F with an ocean breeze, the sun can do some damage! Our hotel had many open venues with some restaurants
in the open air. Best to eat dinner around 9pm when it is cooler. We spent the morning at the beach and in the pool. We ate on our porch for lunch and
retired for an afternoon nap. We came back out when it was cooler.
gecko, check out the airfrance site, maybe T-dudes gf got her flight from moscow through paris to DR.
If I do end up going to DR...girl will fly on AF from kiev to punta cana through paris, there is a restricted zone where anyone can go through for connecting flights...cost is ~$1425. Don't get a flight connecting through USA. What city does aeroflot connect through to get to DR?
For what it's worth, Airbus airliners have an awesome safety record, as Boeing jets do. I happen to be in DR right now, and my round-trip is on Airbus A320s both ways. You are much more likely to die in an average day at home than on a scheduled jet airline flight (seriously, I researched this quite carefully).
sorry they were two unrelated questions.
my girl lives in ekaterinberg, russia and i will meet her next month in kiev.
I wanted to buy her tickets via the internet, I have never done this for another person before.
I was just wandering if anyone else has done that. I guess i have an irrational fear that i would buy the ticket and for some reason aeroflot would not recognize the purchase when she would go to fly.
concerning dominican republic,
i am not sure where the connection is. probably she would first fly to moscow, and then probably somewhere in europe i guess.
I have bought tickets for my wife to come to the states before we were married with Aerosvit. I had no problem. One thing I may caution you on is to make sure you have her spelling the same as it is on her International passport. The international passport will have her name spelled in English but the spelling rules over there do not seem to be adhered to consistently. There E makes a sound like Yeh. My wife's first name is Elena but is pronounced more like Alona so many of her documents are Elena but her International passport is Olena and her last name is 13 letters long including in some documents zhyyev and others simply zhyev. It is even more complicated now because her passports are in her maiden name and US identification is in her married name so it is still necessary to buy tickets in her maiden name so her passports will be recognized in Ukraine and use the marriage certificate to supplement ID. In the US.
A second caution would be to make sure she has a printed out conformation with her that can be looked at or scanned to produce the boarding pass.
T-dude. Sounds like you had a really good time.
I heard good and bad about excellence..barely a 4 star...language problems with some of the staff and food being just okay, guess you didn't encounter any of this. My biggest problem is the distance the resort is to the airport...I read it was about 1.5 hours. What was cost of your private car? I read one place it is possible to get RT for $80. Yes, that bus is much cheaper, only problem is waiting at airport for everyone to get picked up and everyone dropped off at each resort..best with private car. If I go, I want to take a day trip up to Samana peninsula area.
So T-dude you did end up paying for the girl's airfare? I thought she bought it.
I think you can get your same flights for $1600..it depends on day leaving, I think Fridays are cheaper. I know flight I checked on AF is for Thursdays, don't fly out every day.
According to weather info, it is more or less same temp all year round( highs and lows, biggest difference is rain.....around Oct and March is rainy season.
Hi Beem. I stayed at the Riu resorts in Punta Cana with my Ukraine girl in 2004. We loved it! To me it was a solid 4 star +. If I recall correctly the airport to hotel trip was a half hour and I used the some kind of resort bus because it did make a couple of stops but again I had no complaints. We were there for two weeks. The whole thing cost me about $3,000 and $1,100 of that was her airfare from Kiev. The trip was worth every dollar! Loved it!
