The first was a client in the North Hollywood area. She was in her 60's, has been in the US since the 60's, married and divorced a lawyer. She turned me on to a church in the Glendale area which is attended by Ukrainians. I have not gone there, but I thought it would be a good place for my future wife to go. The second was a receptionist at a rehabilitation home in Las Vegas. She also told me of a place in the strip where the Ukrainians hang out. She was discouraging me to go to Ukraine. To start with, I can think of 3 whom I know personally in my home state (New Jersey) - I described my encounter with one of them in this forum: http://forum.fiance.com/forum2.asp?Main=ShowTopic&forumid=1&topi cid=4587 I believe that all of them have attained their U.S. citizenship. One of them had not long ago a 2-week visit from all 3 of her adult daughters. There are others I have met (for example, a great aunt of a friend). Sadly, in local go-go/strip bars, most of the "dancers" seem to be Ukrainian (I don't go to such places myself, but I have heard this from men I work with, including a Russian guy who probably got their nationality accurately). Within about 45 minutes drive from my house, I know of 2 Ukrainian churches. In New Jersey, a private company publishes a "yellow pages" type phone directory of Russian-language shops and services - this directory is at least 1/4 inch thick. There is obviously a significant Russian speaking population here. Perhaps there are more men than women immigrants, but women surely make up a substantial fraction. And many of these Russian speakers are from Russia or other former Soviet states, but it seems to me that a respectable percentage are from Ukraine. Why do you ask? Do you suspect that Ukrainian women don't really come to America? As far as I know, the United States has immigrants from almost every country in the world. Perhaps there are none from North Korea - no one is allowed to leave that totalitarian prison camp. But people come here from almost everywhere - men and women. My ex wife's grand parents were Ukrainian - came through Ellis Island as did many. There were many arranged marriages between Ukrainians back then and a community of them from the same area living in upstate New York above Syracuse. Many also live in the Scranton area. Seems to be a pipeline from FSU to the Scranton area. I recently met someone who told me there are thirty families from the same city in Russia living there. Philadelphia has a tight knit group of Russians. Took little old NZ a while to realize it was living beyound its means !!! Retail is very slow - but we are slogging away trying to flog a dead horse. Lena slowly converting/teaching a little style into this drary drab lot of Kiwi women. I didn't get to Kiev this winter (NZ winter) Lena went byself and worked her little tail off for 3 weeks buying stock and then home again. Luckily timed a tooth problem that got fixed in Kiev at a fraction of the cost of what would be here - so that was a bonus. Got back from Russia and Ukraine yesterday, brain full of memories of some of the most gorgeous creatures on earth, including one from a southern Russian city who is the most beautiful woman I have ever seen in my life - think Angelina Jolie v your average 6/10, and then realise that, in this case, Angelina is the 6. Then, on the bus from Odessa to Kyiv, was the most beautiful girl I saw in Ukraine - must have been only about 20 or 21 - and the guy next to her swapped seats to sit next to me because he heard me speak English! The ironical part was that she did too - I spoke to her after we got off the bus. Today - I went into town, walked down part of Queen Street (New Zealand's number one street - our version of Nevskiy Prospekt or Kreschatik), then later on went to St Luke's shopping mall, and the contrast couldn't be more striking. Of couse there were pretty girls, but nothing like the proportions I've seen recently. And for me, the most noticeable (and disappointing) thing was the fact that they couldn't be bothered to make an effort. It was a nice day (17 or 18 degrees), and there was no excuse to be wearing anything other than summer clothes, possibly with a jacket to ward off the breeze. But no - baggy tracksuits, inappropriate makeup, crappy colour co-ordination - think of anything you don't like in women's fashion and it was displayed somewhere for all to see. You want to see what we look at walking past our shops in Blenheim every day. at least some AKL still know style in clothing - we have a few that fly down especially for our cloths. This local lot want to spit on us for endangering their new slobby/crudd lifestyle that they have got to like. We have elegant femine clothing that has class and style – that even makes size 24 women look great. But it needs cleaning and looking after etc – that’s not cool now !!!!!!!!!!!! I blame the men - to be honest. Should ignore this lot until they pull their socks back up and try looking like women again. It shouldn’t worry me, I have the most amazing women and we are together stronger now after nearly 6 years than we were at the beginning. Its just amazing – I am truly a very lucky chap. But – I just feel sick seeing what’s happening out there. I must be old fashioned or maybe chauvinistic – but it really scares me to where this is heading. Danny is partly correct (god – did I just write that about Danny :-) Watched the Mt Panarama too - bloody Murphy didn't pull it off for us :-( We have tried to “reintroduce” (yes reintroduce something that was here before) style – elegance and feminine fashion back into this country, and maybe it should have been left back in Kiev, but Lena wanted to get her teeth into something for herself, especially if I fall off the perch as most of my assets are in Trust to my kids etc 15% of the locals love our clothing - 30% can’t afford it – but it’s the 40 – 60% “Cougar Clan” that in all honestly want to spit on us. Given that the hot FSU women there have a lot more choices, it is also a lot more competitive than meeting them in a FSU country.
