I read a few threads about this matter, but they were not exacly my situation, so here goes. What are the procedures to follow if you want to live (not work) for a longer period of time in Ukraine. In this situation I'm married to a Ukrainian citizen, who has her own house so registering is not a problem. I understood that the border hopping can be done only once so you can stay for 180 days, but I also read that you can extend your stay by 90 days each time by registering at some immigration office.
Could anyone shed some light on this ?
Thanks.
Or get 2 passports, tell the passport issuing authority that you travel to Israel thus need a 2nd passport, then border hop using alternate passports each time. :)
Does Ukraine not have what here we call a spouce visa, here in Uk i think it runs for 3 years as long as your passport has 3 or more years on it. Not sure about whether Ukraine has anything like this. Check with your local Ukraine embassy.
i don't think the business visa works anymore. you have to leave the country every three months and cannot stay for more than 90 out of 180 days. this is exactly the same as thailand.
i would think you could get an immagration visa based on your marital status.
i'm not sure this is the best site to ask this question. maybe you should try expat.ua
You cant get permanent residency until you have been married for two years. I havent ever stayed in Ukraine for more than 4 weeks at a time but my business visas dont mention anything about having to leave the country after a certain period.
I have also once got a cultural exchange visa which lasted 12 months also but no longer have contact details of person who organised it.
I have a business visa and have lived in Ukraine for most of the past year and a half. I've left the country a few times for a week or two, and returned, all without problems.
I got my visa through gotorussia; can't remember how much I paid, but not a whole lot. I did not have any kind of official invitation letter from a company there or anything like that.
i had myself a 5 yr business visa. the 90 out of 180 rule was made law this year. not sure if it is enforced. but better to know about it. its widely discussed on expatua.com
I asked at the Ukrainian consulate general in the U.S. For a business visa, the guy told me that the rule is no more than 180 days every calendar year, unless you register with OVIR and show official documentation from your workplace or business.
He didn't say anything about 90 out of 180 or leaving every 90 days, just 180 days total.
I read on a forum somewhere a couple of months ago, that for an investment of $200,000.00 or more one could gain permanent residence in Ukraine...does anyone know about this?
rob-ralf, I have not heard about this in Ukraine, but many countries will automatically grant residency to a person who maintains assets in the country greater than a certain amount.
I have an American friend who's lived in Kremenchug for about the past year I think...he's tried, but for some reason is having problems getting registered on this forum,as he'd like to share his experiences with us...
anyway,he has a 5 year residence visa for Ukraine, but apparently still needs to exit the country after,I think, every 90 days, then come back again.
His lady who lives with him is a Russian citizen, and she's also subject to the same requirements.
I found the post about the $200 thousand investment-for-residence option, and will post it here if anyone's interested?
Thanks everyone, this is a great forum.
