Did someone know if child 14 yo needs to has a visa for traveling to USA with his parent/single mom?
My friend would like to come over to USA - she had been in USA several time without any problem and now i would love to invite her to come over with her 14 yo child, did child needs separate visa or...????
thanks in advance,
Not authoritative, but I believe that for the USA, a child must have his/her own passport and visa.
A separate issue, is that for poor countries the US Consulates want to see evidence that a visitor has strong ties to their home country, as evidence that the visitor is not likely to illegally migrate. Leaving a 14-year-old kid back at home is a strong tie; bringing one's only child is "the sort of thing a migrant might do," so including the child could POSSIBLY decrease the chances of getting the visitor visa.
Everybody MUST have a valid visa to be able to enter into the US. Age makes no difference. The passport will allow the child to re-enter back into their country. To come here you need a visa. They will also look at your foreign passport, but that is not the visa.
The issuing US Embassy will place the visa into their passport, so they both get looked at.
And what durak is getting at is depending on the country, one may not be able to obtain a visitor or any other kind of visa from the US Embassy is they are believed to be an immigrant risk (meaning come in and never leave). Then the next level of concern is will CBP, Border Patrol, also allow them to enter. Just because one has a valid visa from the US Embassy, does not mean they are automatically going to be allowed in at the border. CBP operates on their own set of rules separate from USCIS, the consulates, and NVC. If the border guards believe there is ill intent, they can turn you right around and deny entry.
