anyone have a clue if there are one hour photo shops in Krasnodar. gf works all the time and has never heard of such a place. What I am hoping to find is a place where you can drop off a cheap one use only camera, get the photos developed and have them instantly.
good news is I found an exact replacemnt for the camera I "lost" in Kiev. Also have cool video of Kiev day events in May. And also some interesting film at a club of people dancing and carrying on. -- will figure out how you get them onto utube -- I'm not big into the internet sharing thing yet but it will soon be a reality -- time to catch up with 'modern' times...
I NEED TO KNOW IF THERE IS A PLACE TO GET A THROW AWAY CAMERA AND HAVR THE FILM DEVELOPED THE SAME DAY. IN KRASNODAR!!!
it does not matter -- most places shut down for ten days anyway ..... ?????? all will be taken care of... just wanted to get some immediate photos from a cheap camera
In Ukraine nothing ever shuts down. Dont know about Russia. I would think you would have more luck getting prints off a digital camera. Many photo shops can do this faster than develop film.
I use my "old" digital camera to take pictures and if I want to immediately view them when in Ukraine or Russia, I plug it into a TV (video out of my camera to video input of their TV) ... then change the video output on my camera from NTSC (USA standard) to PAL (European standard)and my fotos are displayed on TV, simple!
I just tried to send this message and it would not let me send it... something about username and password do not match... funny though previously, I have been able to log in and reply to other topics. I'm happy I copied the message so I don't start swearing again about loosing my message all together.
There are plenty of cheap digital cameras on Ebay, particularly from Hong Kong, might take a couple of weeks for delivery, and if you don't have one already perhaps buy a laptop .... then you take pics with camera, download them and view them on your laptop, when connected to the internet email them to the other party or buy a memory stick, again plenty on Ebay, and put them on a memory stick, plug it in at an internet cafe and email them away!
Martin, something I found at several internet cafes in Russia was that users didn't have access to the hard drives (let alone the USB ports) on the computers, therefore couldn't email photos directly. You have to get them downloaded by the cafe staff onto the desktop of your particular computer, and attach them from there. It seems fairly cumbersome, but at least it cuts out the possibility of the customer downloading a virus into the cafe's systems.
okay -- I have a super-whammy-dine digital camera with the ability to take over a thousand stills, I have an excellant handy cam HDD with 60X zoom and it takes fantastic movies. it has a good capacity internal storage capability plus I have two 8gb sticks for it. I have a laptop and can load it very easily, and I can put pics on a flash card,,,, I will be able to take hours of movies and view them in HD on my laptop almost immediately etc...
All I was looking for is a one hour photo place to take a quick bunch of pics and have them developed immediately -- or one of the quick print digital places. The ability to take a couple thousand pictures I have. What I need is to have printed photos so she can include them with ones she already has. I will be there when everything closes for new year. Then travelling for a week to see the country side etc.... this is not going to be a completely stay at home visit, I will be on the move most days. heading to ski resort, cave and hot springs etc... hiking on the coast...
so what i wanted to find out was if there are places such as a photomat or wal-mart type place that gets me printed pictures in twenty minutes to an hour... that was my original question...
thanks for all your input.
I'v seen something like that in Ukraine, in one of these store complexes that have all different outlets within the same store complex, whether it was one hour, or whatever, I cannot say.
I've only been to Russia the once, didn't observe anything like that but I wasn't looking for anything like that.
Have you thought about a portable photo printer to go with your laptop? :)
Martin, actually I have, but it is too late to get one and I am already taking too much crap along, hiking, skiing and normal clothes, plus a bunch of extra shit-- I will figure it out when I get there, there has to be something! it is after all a 'modern metropolis'
worked last night and two more nights -- leave house at 5P get home at 7A, and try to get enough sleep to do it all over again, get home in morning Monday, sleep, make sure everything is ready... driver picks me up at noon on 29th... leave JFK in afternoon, change planes and arrive 30th at night, sleep 31st while she goes to work for half day then get ready for NYE. maybe get a chance to shop before everything closes. celebrate new year then travel -- I don't need to be lugging a bunch of crap around considering bus travel for a week then 6 hour train ride back 'home' and get ready to leave the next day -- I will be leaving a lot behind and bringing 'other' items of interest back to my place. her interview is first week in Feb -- she told me she knows of someone who went through an interview in Moscow embassy, after all of the crap they want to see she told me all they did was look a photos and sign off on the visa, --- so why not give them some more recent photos? that is my urgency to get prints made on the spot. We didn't know interview would be early Feb when we planned this trip. We assumed much later. Apparently we got in the express line. However it is pretty good timing. Assuming everything goes according to plan she will fly to US second week of March and start shopping for new curtains and carpeting. etc... and if after 60 days she has the shits of it all, at least I will have replaced twenty year old window treatments.
But that ain't gonna happen.
