I just want to throw an online free service I use quite a bit; Google Earth. It is a very good satellite imaging service & you can imagine all the FSU countries are in pretty high resolution. The images are generally 2 years old. Your not going to get 'Real Time" for a free service. But the software has an amazing series of options & if you check the Transportation box it will show you every airport, train station. Metro tube... All roads are clearly labeled & you choose the level of detail you want. It can show locations of hotels, restaurants. I would recommend turning these layers on & off according to what you are trying to find or all the info & icons get crowded. There are also 'Google Info' notes you can turn on & people can leave a little icon to leave helpful notes like; 'this is tube station to get off for stadium'. Many, not all of those will be in Russian. You can also toggle back & forth between map & satellite views for point of reference.
Google Earth saved my life many times in Bangkok & would recommend anyone traveling to FSU country download onto home PC & also if you're taking your laptop. I never once fumbled around w/ a map written in Thai while in Bangkok. And FSU urban areas you can zoom in close enough to see color of car on the road.
I would consider it a MUST HAVE for acclimating yourself well to city you are visiting. Zoom out & you can follow the exact train tracks from the Kiev station all way down to Odessa.
Did I mention its FREE? http://earth.google.com/index.html
